If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

Small beer perhaps but it's nice to see you, Skippy, Stuart (muted), PicCommander (muted), OldDuck (muted) and Indigo devote some of your time on the forums to keep those ADS exiles company.

It's that kind of community spirit that keeps me coming back.

We're all in it together, even the offlinegaters/modes luddites although that fact annoys the bejeesus out of them.

Try putting a blindfold on. I understand that is the "thing" to do these days.

That is on my wish list :D

You bloody kopp. Done. :p
Admin? [where is it]

You elephant butt-licking erotic shadow dancer thread-bumping Brexit-voting Trump supporter!!!!

Either the thread will be closed or I'll be banned, either way, problem solved!

Or perhaps Brett can fix the "ignore thread" function (I tried the righteous path).

I've just got a brilliant idea: I just ban myself from this thread. How's that? :p

That's what I thought "Ignore Thread" would do, but apparently this feature does absolutely nothing.

I'm trying to quit, but the Girl Scouts keep knocking on my door (activity feed) with cookies!

I think that the latter should be the right way to go... for two reasons

A: It's better to have a working function than an unhappy forum
2: If the Thread gets closed then all the good work of all those participants will go to waste...
3: Another thread will open and you'll have to visit that one instead.
2/2 Closing threads won't make the OP's problems go away

I'm muted? Odd:

and?

Just because 10k people sign up for a community doesn't indicate widespread support for the blue blob machine.

Will be interesting to see though post DW2 how many people who do explore might voice some issues with the blob machine.
After all, I thought my FSS/ADS suggestion thread ("Proposal: alternative to outright removal of ADS instascan & system map minigame for explorers") from four months ago was a useful & constructive one...

Woah, THAT was deep! :D
But this must do now, otherwise the admin has dropped dead.

can it possibly be that we're just trolling right now?

I've just got a brilliant idea: I just ban myself from this thread. How's that? :p

At this point the mods probably don't want to close the thread as its acting as a containment facility.

Logically though, can anyone actually see that Fdev would roll back to have the ADS option? Or even create some half baked hybrid?

I mean, wouldn't that open them up to 100's more complaints about who-knows-what a few people are unhappy with?

It also gives a message that if you spam every thread with the same concerns over and over, then eventually you get what you want.

IMO. If they do cave in, then they're shooting themselves in the foot, im sorry to say but it makes sense that it will never happen.

Yes, you're right. Doesn't work: still got an e-mail notification despite having both unsubscribed and ignored this thread. Though I know that 'unsubscribing' usually takes a few straggler until it's eventually settled. I'd give it the benefit of the doubt and wait a few more posts. Though, if with 'activity feed' you mean 'find last posts' in your profile, then it's probably never going to work and working as intended I guess.

I'm talking about the "New Discussions" tab (which is labeled "Activity Feed" when you pull it up). I only subscribe to threads I start, so I've never been subscribed to this thread.

Now interestingly enough, if somebody on my ignore list posts to this thread, then that does not show up in the activity feed or new posts. Maybe I just need to ignore the lot of you!

Nah, what fun would that be?

Sigh, yet more pages of the same tired old arguments by mostly the same people.

I'll return with what is likely my last post, as I haven't played since the 3.3 Beta, and no longer have any urge to start the game at all.

What the implementation of the FSS has done is remove the space flight part of the discovery process.
I know SC flight isn't everyones' cup of tea, but the previous exploration methods provided a fairly chilled game mode that made SC part of the process.
SC is often criticised as dull straight-line flight. System exploration via SC provided reasons to not use straight lines, because there were more efficient ways to get from target to target, with the added bonus of getting close enough to the targets to see them in context with their satellites, parents, and close neighbours - discovery through the cockpit glass.

Instead, the FSS replaces all previous discovery with a Telescope with a jump-drive, the vista enjoyed in SC is replaced with generic blue blobs and planetary discovery is a dial and zoom away to a single planet close-up rather than a flight exercise taking in the view along the way.
What would have been a useful addition to the exploration toolbox has instead completely replaced it as a mandatory exercise.
Sure, you need SC to engage in the brand new DSS probe part (a welcome addition), but that really is straight-line flight interrupting two separate parts.

Losing one player is no tragedy for the game as a whole, but it is with some regrets that I feel it's time to pack my HOTAS and look for something else to engage my game time with.

ED has not become the game I eagerly anticipated when I backed it, and shows no evidence that it ever will be, or even become the game that FD talked about in those early days.

Happy trails to those who still enjoy it, and good luck to those who aren't sure, but persevere anyway.

My compromise has been discussed to death by many of the same people in this thread, but for posterity I'll let you take another look - I thought it was reasonable:

I really hope that they do.

Nope no chance. They are busy on all the funky new stuff no time for a downgrade.

But you still can do what you describe, that's how I explore when i feel like it. It just takes a bit longer to populate the map.

Good bye MDM, always sad to see someone quit, you will be missed.

10000 people signed up to distant worlds 2? Wow. I still would like to speculate that's when the real feedback will start. You're talking about the mainstream gamer crowd...

Lately i've been employing the fss as part of daily play and wow it doesn't get better.

Expect the word 'repetitive' to come back.

Also, the condition of being blind and forced into this mode for a few months on end.. well, see how that goes to anyone but a white knight (who will hate it too but just wont say it).

Wait are you suggesting that those 10,000 Commanders who have signed up to DW2 haven't done any exploring with the new system and therefore have no idea what to expect? Are you really saying that?
