State of Game after 4 years, multiplay is a Nightmare

Just look at my signature. Despite enjoying the new exploration tools, I'm moving ED to an external drive to make room for some new games I just ordered (on disc) that should arrive later this week. I think I've finally reached "stage 5" of accepting the reality that this game will never be fixed properly. If it is, well then I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Thankfully I am very hopeful regarding the game Starfield that aims to be a "better Elite" than ED is :D

Though we have different play styles, likes and dislikes, we've both seem to come to the same conclusion as to where ED is going. I'm searching for a replacement and did a wee bit of searching, the only trailer I've managed to view, doesn't do it any justice. Would you happen to know if "Starfield" will be available for either the ps4 or xbox one x.

Yeah they already have OUR money.

And we got a game which is a hell of a lot better than most these days, Think I paid 55 quid all together and worth every penny for how much entertainment I got.

I paid 30 quid for FO4 including dlc's and got a couple of hundred hours ,but what FO4 boils down to is a searching through rubbish simulator with a shooting mini game.I love it but not enough to pay 70 quid or more with the dlc's when it was released!

Pushing 3000 hours I have played in ED , money well spent.

Fallout 4 was all about mods. Imagine if this game was allowed mods like fallout 4. All the resistance to having the ADS back wouldnt exist cause somebody woud just mod it in and we go get it off nexus.

So what are people asking for here? Time dilation? Sharding? Don't get me wrong, I don't think of ED as a game that can support multiplayer on even a relatively small scale, but there isn't a game that I'm aware of in which hundreds, or thousands, of people can be in the same place at the same time and have things work.

Eve has done it for years. The servers used to grind totally to a halt leaving like 1000 angry people unable to log in, this was several years ago mind. Titans had super weapons that killed every single ship in the sme instance in one hit. Like an energy bomb from old elite. This would also make the server die.

I don't play Eve, and maybe this is something from years ago too, but I was under the impression when big battles happened they dealt with it by delaying everything, essentially making it turn based. You can have lag free battles or events in it now with hundreds or even thousands of people who actually see every other person?

That was how they fixed the 8 hour server deaths. I played before those days. When i was playing jita used to get 1200 in local. It was like playing in jelly :)

Incase anybody doesnt know jita was a major market hub and 1200 was a big deal.

I didn't know DW2 was kicking off today, and I logged on at 8pm to do my usual single player pootling around.

After less than half an hour of not being able to log in, I logged in and went on a mining expedition and nothing went wrong in 3.5 hours.

I can confirm that the sky is not falling.

Yeah it is a great game, almost despite FD and i have spent more time on it than any other PC or video game.
Thing is, that makes the clunky design and persistent bugs even more irritating, its like a bad relationship that you cant let go of.
I have just resolved that even though i may play, im not going to pay for any DLC etc until they fix some bugs and do some streamlining.

I'll never dispute there are things in ED that are really annoying but I can say that about probably every game I have ever played.

For example FO4 was a buggy mess with the same Smeg that has been around since FO3 but you learn to overlook it because in FO games they don't even bother fixing them.

ED is a work in progress and always has been.

Can't argue. I think Frontier have got to have a look at where they want this to go. The last update could have been postponed until this month and they'd have had far less grief. It feels like the update was rushed out purely to keep up with business targets.

Yeah, the scary thing is that means the business (ie david braben obe) cares more about schedule, or worse, isn't being communicated the true state of the software product and isn't playing it either.

It has to be one of those because reality says its pretty woeful quality. Even the ship skins they're selling are often bad. Wonder what the development culture at frontier is really like.

One can only imagine the salt levels in this ridiculously salty forum if Fdev had postponed the release into 2019, for no obvious benefit other than ... what, some bug fixes that will arrive this month?

Game would have been DOOMED again.

And now it's DOOMED because it wasn't.

Pretty much what I did. I watched a little of Obsidian Ant's pre-launch stream, wondered if the servers might implode as the game is SO G POPULAR at the moment, and then was chucked out as I entered a hazres in solo. Tried a few times with intermittent problems, went did other stuff, went back a couple of hours later ... absolutely no problems. Occasionally logged in here for the lols as well.

Perhaps there's just some meta roleplay thing going on here. You'd have to be pretty antisocial and disagreeable to want to fly off round a barren galaxy on your own, so maybe all this entitled forum whinging is just roleplaying an obnoxious loner.

I don't think it's "doomed", not by this utterly half-cocked attempt at gamebuilding, anyway.

It's just exceedingly weak sauce and an embarrassment.

No need to exaggerate.

Hey Nemo! AFAIK, Starfield will be a "next generation" game, though XB1X may be considered nextgen already. For me, that means PS5. However, this IS the year (finally) that PS5 will be announced, so not long now!

Speaking of PS5, it will likely address the various graphical issues ED has on PS4 (these terrible, horrible, PS2-level shadows), but there's so much else wrong with the game that hardware alone won't save it for me. One of the reasons I'm finally "giving up" is that much of what is ruining the game for me personally may not be bugs, but actual design flaws based on decisions made at Frontier - cheap, arcade-level combat, pirates EVERYWHERE forcing this distasteful combat on us whether we want it or not, instagram color filters, etc, so on, so forth, et la-de-da.

But I do really like the new exploration tools, so ED will always in my library, just more toward the back instead of on my shelf of "favorite books".
