There's still time to go back to the Bubble, get a proper mining setup ready in module storage, then head back to WP2 and ship the modules there.

Update: there have been some clarifications from FD. The wing-mining bugs will not be resolved before the Mining-CG 1 starts on Thursday. That means, that we cannot recommend to do Core mining in wings. There is no proper workaround for the existing bugs. Depending on the required materials only the laser-mining should be done in wings.

Also we've been informed, that there will be no shipyard at the new station to be constructed at Sagittarius A. Anybody who has planned to transfer a mining ship over to the new station will have to come up with alternative plans. The outfitting at the new station will allow for module transfers, so the ship can be reoutfitted before and after the CG 2. If you don't mind the detour you can also go to Colonia and swap ships there.

Further information will be posted in this thread as soon as we know about the details of the CG on Thursday.

None of the above is confirmed. But given that we don't have confirmation, it's best to assume these things won't happen.

p.s. just because the bug isn't fixed, you can still mine in wings. Supply limpets for miners. The only thing that can't be done is transfer cargo, so don't avoid mining in wings!

So if ship A uses a Seismic Charge to explode the roid, can ship B shoot the new surface deposits, collect the fragments, and take them to them to the station?

I imagine a situation where I could survey for deep core mining rocks - identify them - and wait for the big rig to come blow it up. We could share in the reward. (I have a type 7 so have no medium hardpoint)

No, with the bugs not being solved this will not work. I think Dr. Kaii referred to the laser wing-mining, which we still encourage to do if correspondent materials are needed for the CG.

Announcement: Thanks to a tip off from the organisers of the expedition months ago, the outfitting foreman at Omega Mining Station has been working round the clock to import a large selection of mining gear to stock. By the time our initiative starts tomorrow, CMDRs will find a full complement of all mining gear, of most if not all sizes and classes. This includes Mining Lasers, Subsurface Displacement Missiles, Abrasion Blasters, Seismic Charge Warheads, Prospector Limpets,, Collection Limpets, Cargo Racks and Refineries.

So, just trying to understand the technical limits of the game, at the moment. If a player cracks an astroid and just moves on to the next astroid, can other players come in and collect the fragments and mine the surface deposits or does the game technically not make those resources available to another player?

I guess I understand there won't be group/wing credit given, but just working as a loose group, does random collection by anyone work, even though credit will only go to an individual, still work?

Thanks!

Also wondering how flying in the private group versus flying solo might impact this as well. Will flying solo keep areas from being 'mined-out' in a particular system, or will we see remnants of all the private groups mining even when flying in solo?

I don't think we really know the current technical limitations, but reviewing the various wing mining bug report threads is informative. It sounds like what you describe *might* work, provided only one ship uses prospectors. Some of the threads mentioned resources not spawning in wings, and others do not, so it might work or fail intermittently.

Looks like we'll be doing some live testing on Thursday! I should be on during Americas evening, so if anyone wants to just get together and try, I'd love to work together. I have all the equipment and a bunch of cargo holds shipped up to Omega, so I can mine and haul, whatever is needed.

I got pretty good at crackin' during the Void Opal rush, so I'd like to try, prospecting and cracking and see if others can collect and refine. I'm guessing too, once products are refined, someone can jettison using the abandon option and others could pick up and take to the station?

I think having a mining CG in a mining outpost that is 5,000Ly from the bubble and doesn't sell mining equipment and telling people that it actually does and they are ok to just buy when they get there is a great troll :p

I flew from the bubble, to thor's eye, to wp2, found out i couldn't buy mining equipment, flew back to the bubble, flew to The View, realized I had still forgotten a certain laser, flew home again, finally making the trip back to Omega. I didn't read this OP first though, I honestly wrongly assumed it would sell mining lasers and found out on my own when I got there that it did not. I was one of the earliest to get there and broke the news to everyone that was on FleetComm at the time... there was a collective "uugghh" in discord along with a few chuckles xD

There have never been guarantees that everything would be available at WP2. So we never told anybody that they could just buy everything there. We have asked FDev for it, sure, but it was only this afternoon that they confirmed, that Omega Mining Operations will be stocked up with all necessary stuff. Tomorrow.

Is it too late to join DW2? When would too late be? I know they said they would be going slow, but I won't be able to make it out there until maybe next month. I want to catch up to the wagon train and do some exploring! I thought it was boring at first but I did my 5000ly to unlock Palin and explored to break the monotony and the bug bit me. I even like mapping!

Definitely not too late. Sign up and join the Fleetcom PG, then start the chase next month. WP2 was about 4 hours of jumping away and we're not leaving WP2 until 1/27, so, by the time you join, we'll probably be looking at 8-12 hours of jumping to catch us.

From Discord: "Mined cargo transferred to another CMDR will NOT count toward the CG."
