[DW2] Community Goals

I fear they've woefully undervalued this one. The target's ten percent met already. In fact, it just went up by another thousand while I was writing this!

Commanders!
CG 1 has kicked off. We have now the chance to be a part in the construction of a new space station at the galactic core.
We need to collect as many Indite, Gallite, Praseodymium and Cobalt as possible.

Combat oriented commanders can also choose to sign up to the combat-part of our CG, that surprisingly appeared too.

Please refer to the following spreadsheet to search for suitable locations for your mining efforts. Be aware that the sheet is editable. Please do not make any changes to it unless you contribute to the scouting.

IMPORTANT MINING ADVICE (Courtesy of CMDR Polish_Dan and the iMU)

(Minerals) are extracted via laser mining AND core mining using Mining Lasers, Abrasion Blasters, Sub-Surface Displacement Missiles and Seismic Charges.

Laser Extraction, like all things can be done in solo. The most fun and efficient method however is working as a team and creating Wings. Listed below are the areas of focus for mining in a wing:

Things to focus on:
- Communicate. A lot.
- Wings should probably have a leader who coordinates actions (examples: experienced miners, CMDRs with refineries).
- Prevent accidental boosts: lower cargo scoop or landing gear, and try not to point your ship at fellow CMDRs.
- Let CMDRs with refineries coordinate when CMDRs with only lasers make fragments to avoid getting overwhelmed with fragments they can't collect in time.
- A-rated prospectors only, please (3.5x multiplier). A 2D mining laser is >3x faster at fragmentation than a 1D.
- The first prospector on a rock applies its multiplier for all CMDRs in the instance at that moment. Whoever owns it should communicate the contents. NB: Anybody who sees something else on that prospector (or enters the instance after it was set on a rock) will need another prospector applied (perhaps their own) to get a multiplier.
- Everybody on the same rock should laser the same spot to keep fragments on one side of the rock. Preferably either pole of its rotation.
- Not everybody has to work the same rock if there's more than one wing. Teams can rotate between 2-3 rocks taking turns so as not to crowd.
- Each asteroid produced a different set of fragments per CMDR (the count varies). If you fill up, consider sticking around a little bit to help others fill up faster with the extra fragments you can produce.

Due to several bugs, the iMU's position on wing core mining is that you probably shouldn't. If you encounter bugs while core mining and come asking for help the very first thing we're going to ask is "wing, multicrew, or other CMDRs around?" If you say "yes" we're going to say "that's why".
But if you decide to try it anyway:

- It's the chunks that hurt, not your limpets. Colliding with one hurts as much as hitting an asteroid at the same speed.
- Shields are good (faster recharge rate preferred). Keep an eye on them.
- Only MJ matter (resistances don't) because collisions are absolute damage.
- Use 4 pips to SYS to get your absolute damage resistance at 60%% so that you only take 40%% of that damage.
- Stay still when collecting, or move downward slowly rather than upward.
- Closing your scoop is not an emergency stopgap, as your collectors will still attempt a delivery before realizing it's closed and pausing.
- If your collectors are still carrying chunks, don't immediately zoom off anywhere. Kill them by turning the collector controllers off and on again in the Modules tab. If you boost away and have collectors carrying chunks, the collectors will get teleported ahead of you on your vector and you'll just be ramming asteroids, basically.
- CMDRs with only pulse wave can find nearby cores. Try to coordinate a path for collecting ships rather than spreading out in all directions.
- CMDRs with pulse wave, prospector, and seismic launcher: avoid more than one CMDR prospecting a core. Whoever prospects it should crack it. This is to try to minimize occurrences of the bug where the detonation graph glitches out.

The above is not a guaranteed workaround, has not been tested with large wings or multiple wings, and we don't know of any workarounds to other bugs.

Security

It is known that these populated systems will create the nuisance of Pirates when jumping into instances. Solo or Winged, carrying only limpets will allow you to be scanned and leave the pirate disappointed.

Jumping into instances with Cmdrs already mining or carrying cargo in the rings will be dangerous. You may have undesirable cargo, but a miner halfway through their run is a tasty treat for the pirates once they’ve scanned the undesirables. Below is a list of teams and Cmdrs who are willing to provide instance control and point to point escort. Please note the platform you need and escort you require below:

Just for the record as people in Discord are constantly asking this:

You wont be needing Pulse Wave Scanner since the mats required can be mined the "old fashioned" way.

Just prospector, lasers and refinery is enough.

I wish the codex kept track of discovered minerals as well at least at a commander level. Probably information overload. I don't like filling out forms.

Yeh that's crazy... I had a feeling they would underestimate the quantity. Perhaps they set the target values a few weeks ago when only 5,000 cmdrs were signed up! I feel like sometimes in the past they introduced an additional tier - which would be nice. I've been at work the 5 hours this CG is live, and will be able to get on tonight [North America time] in another few hours and I bet it will be halfway over. Better get all my mining in tonight so I can participate! Hurray for the 1-day CG!

Hell if it really does get finished in 48-72h then there is no reason to stick around another week. The schedule should get moved up a week.

Conservative estimate for the current rate would be around 1k tonnes every 2 minutes.... EU prime time. If the US can match that, I'm afraid your 48 hours will be more than generous.

It will be finished in 24hrs at this rate. But it wouldnt be the first time Fdev raises the goals when they are set too low from the get go and i'm quite confident it will happen this time also. :)

Not going to happen. This isn't a race. There is a schedule we need to stick to. And Omega nebula is in a location that's full of POIs to explore anyway :).

I hope so- otherwise I'm not going to have time to really participate much, because being in the wrong time zone, and real life(TM).

It's a Tier 8 CG, which I assume is one of the toughest to reach. We should expect progression to slow considerably once we hit those higher tiers.

Edit:

Correction... it's tier 9 ;)

The tier 8 target looks like 200kT, whereas a typical in-bubble mining CG would get around 160kT in an entire week. It's not as if Frontier were deliberately setting the target really low. (They were going slightly easy - the typical Tier 8 target is 400kT - but it's not as if very many in-bubble mining CGs make 200kT either and one might have expected a CG 5kLY from Sol to be less popular than normal rather than over ten times more...)

At this rate, I think there's a fair chance it will have finished before Frontier are back at work and realise it needs extending. EDIT: or they might not have left yet... tier 9 it is.

Hmm.. i have always assumed that CG tiers are linear instead of non-linear?
I hope you're right Erimus, otherwise this CG will be very short one..

EDIT: Woop, there goes Adam Bourke-Waite: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...ive-(Mining)?p=7355676&viewfull=1#post7355676

Evening all,

We have noted that the tier 8 goal for this CG might be a bit low so we have added a ninth tier. This ninth tier simply provides you with a new higher goal and comes with increased credit and reputation rewards. It will not impact on your ability to unlock the global rewards.

Thanks,
Adam

The spacing on the CG screens is mostly to scale. On many CGs - though not this one - the lower tiers appear further apart than they actually are on the vertical display, because the tier boxes have a minimum height, but the horizontal display on the "all CGs" summary page is always fully to scale.

Most CG tier setups are very non-linear, with the first few tiers very easy, but the rest much bigger. Mining CGs tend to be almost linear, though ... the new Tier 9 aside.
