[DW2] Community Goals

Definitely not too late. Sign up and join the Fleetcom PG, then start the chase next month. WP2 was about 4 hours of jumping away and we're not leaving WP2 until 1/27, so, by the time you join, we'll probably be looking at 8-12 hours of jumping to catch us.

Here's the signup: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...Distant-Worlds-II-Fleet-Roster-Sign-Up-Thread
Here's the Fleetcomm PG Application: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...mm-the-exploration-focused-Private-(pc)-Group

Fleetcomm has been temporarily closed after the Expedition began. I recommend to use Mobius or any other Private Group for the expediton (and the CG) as Open Play is infested with inmature Griefers, pseudo-psychos and other sociopaths around our waypoints right now.

From Discord: "Mined cargo transferred to another CMDR will NOT count toward the CG."

Since the server isn't even down yet for the weekly maintenance after which that CG will officially be announced, that is an amazing amount of precognition.

True: in past mining CGs, only materials that were flagged as "mined" would count towards the CG goal, and any material loses this flag once it's ejected from the cargo hold (one way or another).

Unknown until the CG actually starts, though, is whether FD will require this flag also for this CG. My hope is that, with the new mining tools for 3.3 and the remote location of the CG station, the CG will simply require materials to be brought (and sold, of course) into the station. Probably materials that can't be bought at the station - or anywhere. Since they're pimping the station for the CG anyways (outfitter will get a metric crapload of mining gear added), manually adjusting the commodities exchange wouldn't be a big issue. And personally, I think anyone crazy enough to buy a cutterload of stuff in the bubble to sell it 5 kly out for the CG deserves that option, too.

One indication might be that FD explicitely fixed several wing mining bugs in this patch.

I think having a mining CG in a mining outpost that is 5,000Ly from the bubble and doesn't sell mining equipment and telling people that it actually does and they are ok to just buy when they get there is a great troll :p

To be fair, we were advised to bring it with us or have it ready to transfer.
This is why most of us bought all the mining gear we'd need at Jameson, stuck it in storage, and then spent 15hrs waiting for it to arrive at Omega.

+1

You cant possibly demand people to read instructions and/or announcements.. ;)

Just as an update, Omega Mining Corporation now has most mining tools available for purchase.

Mining Laser (Normal + MC Turret) : 1D/2D
Abrasion Blaster (Normal + MC Turret) : 1D
Subsurface Displacement Missile ((Normal + MC) : 1B/2B
Seismic Charge Launcher (Normal + MC) : 1B/2B

Cargo Racks : 1E - 6E
Collector Limpet Controller : 1,3,5 A-E
Prospector Limpet Controller : 1,3,5 A-E
Refinery : 1-4 A-E

The two omissions are the Pulse Wave Scanner and the Detailed Surface Scanner.

The latter I imagine every ship has anyway.

The PWS is a bit of a , but not necessary; it's just a QoL addition to mining. You can find motherlode asteroids using Prospector Limpets or by mining in a wing.

----
EDIT
PS: Why on earth are the MC-versions of the mining tools quite a bit more expensive? For the solo commander they add no value (at least, the descriptions say the turrets only work in MC). Would've made much more sense to just have a single version of every tool and have it MC compatible. As someone who hasn't really gotten into MC, I'm even less inclined to try it if I have to buy special versions of weapons which cost more but yield no benefits outside MC.

Because turret always cost more than fixed? *shrug*
Well, not all of the MC mining tools are turreted. You just pay extra for the MC. And also, as I said, none of the ones which are turreted actually -work- as turrets unless you have a MC Gunner.

Announcement: Thanks to a tip off from the organisers of the expedition months ago, the outfitting foreman at Omega Mining Station has been working round the clock to import a large selection of mining gear to stock. By the time our initiative starts tomorrow, CMDRs will find a full complement of all mining gear, of most if not all sizes and classes. This includes Mining Lasers, Subsurface Displacement Missiles, Abrasion Blasters, Seismic Charge Warheads, Prospector Limpets,, Collection Limpets, Cargo Racks and Refineries.

So I take it Pulse Wave Scanners are mysteriously not going to be included in this list of 'full complement of all mining gear'? Smh.......

It's easy to hindsight I know, but QA could have picked this up easily. Apply update to test environment. Plonk a stock ship in Omega. Fit it out for mining. Fly for a few seconds into the ring and try the 4 types of mining.

CMDRs! Explorers and biologists, pay attention! The CG has started and we have a mission for you, should you choose to accept it, the first one of the expedition.

The mining team (and anyone who wants to help - the more the merrier!) will be working hard on the CG, and they even have an amazing spreadsheet that is collecting information on all the nearby ring systems around the nebula.

What I would like from you is if you could find rings that also contain life in them so we can find a nice setting to mine and study all at the same time! You can start with the spreadsheet as a basis, but you are welcome to contribute to it as well by going off and hunting your own rings. Somewhere not too far from the station would be ideal but this is a great opportunity for us to combine our roles and give everyone something to do!

There are plenty of anomalies to be found in the rings as the Discovery submissions is finding. Please make sure to check any and all signal sources inside ring systems! The hunt is on for the most awesome mining location ever.

Just make sure it contains these materials: Indite, Gallite, Praseodymium and Cobalt

If you find something, please make sure to share it either in the CG thread or the Discoveries Submission thread (make sure to say "this a CG mining candidate" with your submission so we know.

With the discovery aspect for the mining, do we pick an unchecked system the go check it. When that's done do we just add our data to the next row of the spreadsheet?
