Nanomeds Galnet implications

Recently there was a Galnet article about nanomedicine-

“The IHO rendered its decision on January 17, siding with Vitadyne Labs and approving their nanomeds a legal medical product with the caveat that Vitadyne had to distribute their nanomeds through an established pharmaceutical company to ensure that strict healthcare protocols would be applied at every stage. The IHO justified its ruling by explaining that while Utopia did indeed develop the original nanomeds, Vitadyne obtained them as legal salvage and any derivatives were Vitadyne's intellectual property. Professor Katrien Rook was satisfied with the ruling and said she would comply with the IHO's conditions.”

Most items (commodities and such) that ever appear in Galnet have become things we can buy and trade in the game. Duradrive I believe is the most recent one to do so. This article seems (IMO) to imply we as commanders won’t be licensed or allowed to transport them enmasse.

Thoughts?

Probably illicit cargo. Black market stuff.

Perhaps a new rare commodity? Or just some general flavoring.

Duradrive is a thing we can buy and trade in-game?

99% of what's written in GALnet is pure vanity fluff text, represented by nothing in-game. ASCII-only storytelling for your entertainment.

I wouldn't give it too much consideration, until proven otherwise.

Dang I suppose not. Read the wiki a while back and it’s labeled a commodity with an average price of 16 something thousand credits. So no I guess I was wrong. Though why can’t we? Couriouser and couriouser...

One might assume that things like the "Duradrive" and the "Vitadyne nanomed" packs are warm-up flavour text, intended for use in a future "space legs" expansion. While you're walking around, you will still be able to instantly access the system map, status screens etc, thanks to the Duradrives strapped to your wrists. And if you get shot, or fall down a well, or otherwise manage to injure yourself, just slap on a nanomed pack for instant health recovery.

We have precedents for FD using Galnet to throw in "teasers" about upcoming features. Professor Palin made it onto Galnet long before Engineers were added to the game and Palin became an Engineer. And Mahon, Patreus and most of the other Power figureheads were all mentioned in Galnet articles long before Powerplay was introduced.

Implications? Pranav should have made Vitadyne and the salvage team vanish into his 're- education' camps on Polevnic for stealing his stuff.

The Club probably didn't like Pranav sitting on this technology, so they manufactured the transporter loss, the salvaging and set up Vitadyne to reverse engineer the medicine, then had the IHO wave it through against any doubts.

The other is that Vitadyne lose control of the technology and create some sort of synthetic plague- Antal did hint it needed proper controls.

Ooooh.... are we going to see our very first grey goo planet?

Now thinking of it, we could one day find some ancient civilization but all that's left are a couple planet sized blobs of nanites.
