If I wanted a 'radio-tuning' game I would have rather bought an old radio.

The planet probe thing I like. But the FSS can right off.

Yep. I think everyone agrees the dss is a win.

The bulk experience of scoop honking, flashing up the fss to look at the spectrum then moving on is terrible, so much so that ignoring the system you’re in is a more pleasant outcome. It even erodes the will to continue further when the spectrum is different.

If you do will to stop and go further, if you actually want to take your ship and explore it’s adds zero value.. the only way it appeals is if you care about the direct god mode rewards there with no further interest.

Getting heavy into combat is more appealing by the day.. shame I waited for the changes before properly getting out.

According to serious BGS players, trade IS handled by drones (bots)! Maybe that's why certain people want the ADS back, as their exploration bots depended on it :p

I must confess, if I were on PC I would have been tempted to write my own "autopilot" for exploration when the ADS still existed. Scripting the FSS however, that would be a bit more work... Oooops, did I just sabotage any hope of bringing back the ADS? Sorry, my bad!
The BGS doesn't care how much each system is worth when you cash it in, just the number of transactions. So exploration using bots should still work, since all you need to do is be near the star to scan it now.

The combat player bias of frontier is honestly sickening.

Next thing to try with the fss was going for signal sources. Turns out combat players get *another* concession.. when you tune into signal sources, the white circles appear anywhere on the screen even far away from the reticule... unlike planetary bodies who only appear when the reticle is inside a blob. That's maddeningly unfair. Can a white knight raise this as a bug!?!?!

Just to recap.. frontier themselves love the fss so much that for the mainstream player base, they allow the following concessions:

- In the bubble, its completely not required.
- Scanning a nav beacon does for free its main intention inside the bubble, and zero usage is required.
- When actually used for signal sources, the fss itself cheats for the things combat players are interested in.. easy mode in easy mode.

No wonder its getting rave reviews.

Meanwhile explorers, the people who this thing is supposedly intended for, are getting force fed blue screens gating two main mechanics of exploration and all the rewards given upfront disincentivising further play. Who said this update wasn't for combat players?

It's probably a design decision not a bug but I agree with you, tuning to a specific part of the scale should bring those bodies or signals to the forefront, just like the USS do. I would also add that the tuning and the panning should snap when they are near a signal, I don't know how much time I've wasted going back and forth just trying to get spot-on with a body or a tuning location, and then having the panning feel too slow anywhere else.

So rather than having an endless back and forth, have their been any discussion as to how to improve the FSS?
If so,somebody needs to round them up in a neat little package so the players and FD know exactly where to go in development.

Yes. I put up a proposal that was completely ignored by the pro ADS folks.

Yeah. I think what i meant after my post which was fresh from seeing that being the case.. if the fss was as complimentary, supporting, had concessions that 'dont make any sense' for all player demographics instead of just combat players, im sure those remaining players would be giving it rave reviews also :)

In many prior discussions even populating the nav panel from the honk was adamantly argued as invalidating the fss... wonder what those people make of this.

I really don't know how anyone could like it. Put up with it, maybe. Endure it. But actually like it...

It’s so bad.

I visited Sag A then Colonia a couple of weeks ago using the new system. Once I arrived and handed in my data I felt no urge to play the game so I guess im just waiting on the next update to see what new stuff comes.

I think its fantastic, really handy for ID'ing signal sources as well as good fun for exploration. A double win. No negatives at all.

The ADS was never needed for automating anything I can assure you.

Well in fairness, that;s where it really shines. Combat.. You can find all you need in a minute or 2 without any supercruising to search. So a win for combat.

As an overall design it reminds me of those old horror alien type b-movies of the 30s with the same sound effects.

Yep it's bad, really bad. But we're stuck with it.
