But you can presumably appreciate the difference between discovering something at a distance and actually going there?
That's exactly what we currently have in Elite since 3.3 update.

Lol, you know fully well what quote we are talking about, and your 'it doesnt count anymore because I say so nananana' is growing stale. You think it should be back. FD said no. Learn to live with it.
Yes, like how in the old system you would 'visit' ELWs from hundreds of LS away, and gas giants from >1000LS. [haha]

So no citation then, because you know it's not relevant. And if you think it is why do you keep bringing it up without linking to it?
That's what your argument is reduced to?
Against a system where you can scan a 0.001 Earth-mass icy moon from 500,000Ls away, and never move from the drop-in point?
Exploration has changed from 'traveling' to 'astronomy' and while I understand why people like astronomy (I have an astrophysics degree) I'd just like the OPTION to go back to traveling mode.
You have that option, it's called mapping.
Errr no.
Mapping is something completely different - but thanks for playing.
Ofc no citation, because he just wants to defend, nothing more. I bet he hasn't even left the bubble to try the mini game lol.
Not really, you still get to fly to a planet and leave your name on it, with the added bonus of revealing POIs.
Its been posted a few times already, as has this.
That’s some serious reaching and you know it. You’re getting mighty desperate if you seriously believe that the ADS is ever coming back. This thread in and of itself is testament to the fact that most people don’t want it to come back, and FDev will listen to them as always.I base my view on how the game (post-3.3) actually works, clearly FDev understand that there is no compatibility issue because of the way the current discovery process works in systems that are already tagged. This is where the incongruity lies, and why it is clear that there was no need to remove the old modules.
So essentially FDev would agree with my view (that there are no compatibility issues) if they were to actually say anything, and that it was simply an oversight, possibly spotted too late to make it into 3.3.0. I expressed my disappointment that the ADS had not been put back in the first patch (3.3.01).
That just makes it a zombie-fact.
It was wrong the first time it was posted and wrong every time it's been repeated.
When 3.3.1 rolls out and there is no ADS, can we all point and laugh then?
Wrong ?.
I stopped caring about getting my name on things around the time I stopped caring about credits. Flying to a body I already know everything about, including what type of POIs it has, doesn't meet my criteria for exploration. In addition, the infinite probe aspect of the DSS, coupled with being provided the exact location of whichever of the half dozen identical anomalies are present, renders it another exercise in box-ticking, rather than exploration.
Just think about how much shorter this thread would be without all the baiting & deliberate misunderstandings![]()
