The Star Citizen Thread V10

So what we're looking at is completing the Stanton system in time for the SQ42 release and a possible port of SQ42 to next gen consoles (PS5, Xbox2) by the end of 2020 or early 2021. That about right?

Kinda funny that the most popular profession in SC according to polls is exploration, yet it's the least viable considering only 1 star system. So what we're left with is pew-pew for PvP players who for some reason find satisfaction in broken and poor flight and gunnery mechanics. Not to mention 'Death of a spaceman' and how that would discourage people from engaging in PvP with permadeath and a small space (Stanton system) to play in.

Yeah, but trains! And waiting for trains.

Someone said that SQ42 isn't set in the Stanton system, its set in one that doesn't exist in SC yet. I'm getting the feeling SQ42 is going to be pretty much on-rails with limited areas you can visit and little to no free roam outside those areas.

The story will begin after the Events of Vega II in 2945. It will detail the story of the player joining and flying with the UEE Navy's celebrated 42nd Squadron.

At some point the player will serve on board the UEES Stanton which is assigned to the 5th Fleet, 87th Battlegroup in the Odin system.

Forums are thrown up years in advance to build engagement and hype, Star Citizen took it to the extreme by promising features and gameplay they couldn't deliver - not just once or twice, but over a period of years in hundreds of videos.
Then they removed all obligation to deliver it by changing their terms of service several times.
There is nothing to indicate they have the tech, manpower, experience or even the intention to deliver what they sold.

Interesting that it's been revealed a lot of those early videos were done by Crytek which seemed to have fooled a lot of backers and stirred up the early interest. And none of it turned out to be any slice at all, just videos. Which made it seem initially that SC was more advanced and further along than the demo videos of ED. When it's finally all exposed, it'll be interesting to see how really messed up and mismanaged the entire 6 years of development was.

Wasn't the 'trains' underlying purpose supposed to coral players into hubs and into some restricted transition ride , probably because that detailed a city couldn't be replicated over a whole planet area much less allow players in ships to fly anywhere and land and see in fpv without turning into another slideshow. There were also invisible walls preventing flown ships from leaving the vicinity of the station or designated areas. Agreed that whatever ends up as SQ42, it's going to be limited areas with maybe much of the same terrain on renamed planets and systems while called something else than 'Stanton".

Meanwhile, over in la-la-cukoo land...

When asked for realistic goals, all you end up with is mediocrity.
Mediocrity would heh be a vast improvement over what we have now
You would have less if they had set "realistic" goals.

Project management 101 apparently. Don't set realsitic goals otherwise you end up delivering less. Hope all project managers are taking notes!

Some quality debate going on here: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/finish-the-core-of-the-game

And rather amusing.

What i like is people pointing out how finishing SQ42 first was always the plan, but if there had been a similar discussion about a year ago i'm sure people would have said plans change and the PU is the focus, because that is was CIG were saying as well. If SQ42 had been the focus before the investors bought 10% of the company then they probably would have had it finished years ago since it doesn't require half of what is required for SC, especially all the networking stuff.
