ED Nominated for Evolving Game BAFTA

NMS got mauled at the start, but to its credit improved steadily to make a very decent game. Only the actual space parts need updating to really stick it to ED now as it has everything else.

List is dominated by MP pew pew methinks.

Two of those games are high skill cap competitive FPS games, yes. That's what makes them fun, alongside their core mechanics being sound and well balanced.

One is a predominantly PvE looter-shooter, another is an essentially open-only pirate game. The fact it's open-only is the reason why it's so much fun. Fortnite is just, well, Fortnite. A brilliant free to play BR game that is really fun to play regardless of skill level.

There's only one free for all game on the nomination list, and it's a third person game not FPS.

Elite is the one game that looks really out of place on the list, the rest of the nominees are high quality video games that either have really healthy global esports scenes that drive their development, or super engaged dev teams who actually respond to their community and are transparent about what they're working on.
Oh god, forummommery is happening :)

A huge credit to their efforts in creating what is indisputably the Best Damn Space Sim Ever :)

I dispute the use of the word "indisputably".

God yeah, NMS is objectively by far the better video game when compared to Elite. It has so much more to offer as far as feedback loops go and has little in the way of placeholder mechanics, in fact especially since NEXT the mechanics in NMS just kept on getting stronger..

See, somebody is disputing!

Now if you want to talk about the Buggiest Space Sim Ever, then.... No, even that is not indisputable. Buggiest Space Sim On My PS4, now this is indisputable!

But feel free to dispute my dispute of your claim of indisputability, though personally I think this post is indisputable.

This game has evolved?

I mean, we've had some mechanics changes, and a few locations pop up outside of the bubble, but really what has evolved from a gameplay perspective?

Well... the exploration and mining changes were quite significant and substantial I think, and there were many many changes over time we tend to forget about.
I don't know if that qualifies for an "evolving game" though.
What are the criteria?

So I was right. All mainly pew pew and MP then? Online co-op is still MP.

Putting facts first, not naming NMS is just a joke.

Just missing a BGS in NMS and then I am off to it...

Sean tweeted a cryptic message last night for the first time in a long time. Hopefully he's got something to share soon.

Lets hope it becomes something worth playing more then a few days.

Are you sure you are not letting you feelings and opinions influence what you are saying? Personally I think NMS is a complete load of turd that doesn't come close to ED. But that is just my opinion.

Objective means you are being unbiased by your personal opinions. And I don't believe you are. Your personal opinion is that NMS is better then ED. My personal opinion is the other way round. There is nothing objective about that.

To be honest Elite's has seen better days too. First Engineers kind of messed the balance up and now we need special outfits for every activity (looking at you Thargoids). Flight model is still fun though.

Oh, no arguments there, but (for me) NMS's ship-fighting is both difficult and tedious. Which is quite a trick, I'll grant them :)

I still dib into NMS every now and then, though. Did they ever fill in any of the background to those abandoned fungus buildings?

I have really tried to enjoy NMS, but I just find it utterly boring and tedious. I really don't get that from ED though. But others will feel differently and have different tastes.

NMS owned me for about six weeks upon launch. After that I've loaded it up from time-to-time to see what's changed, and occasionally I've played it for a week or two, but despite several updates (and good on them) it doesn't have the long-lasting appeal for me that Elite does.

NMS and Elite are different fish altogether.

And, like Max Fac, I tried, enjoyed a bit, and then decided NMS wasn't for me.

The fact is I'm still playing Elite regularly, because I'm enjoying it. And Beyond did draw me back in more than I had been playing prior to its release.

I think that the flying - even if it is more fighter-plane than Newtonian - in Elite is what I like most... NMS, well forget it.

But it's all subjective so I accept other's opinions!

I have to agree. I got it on PS4 because I actually wanted to support Hello Games after the nonsense from some parts of the gaming "community" and played it a fair bit but ED is my go to game still. Does ED deserve the award? On balance, I would say they deserve to be nominated (congrats team) but I do not know enough about the other games to say whether ED should win it.

Dunno, I thought you were disagreeing.....maybe not it seems!

And some like both :)

NMS is so much better at planetary exploration.

Elite more realistic and better space "flight".

Both scratch different itches for me.

Personally I want someone to do a mixture of the two and I'll be happy.
