Hmm, yes, removal of CGs, for an upgrade , is clearly a sign the game is dead.
Mario is still popular.

You'll get abuse for this one. Some of the mods are horrendous on here (and noted as such). They ALWAYS side with white knights from my experience. I don't know if they're employees but even if they volunteer to moderate then that probably implies an emotional attachment to the game that explains their bias. In fact, employees would probably be more candid about the state of the game.
You're 100% right about the previous update. It has been a total disaster in terms of stability combined with failing to deliver on some of the important updates.
Is the game DOOMED? I dunno. It may have enough fanboys to keep it turning over until the fabled 2020 update. But it is diminished for sure. ED has been one of the biggest under-achieving games I have encountered. It offered so much scope early on and when horizons was released it felt like the game was making progress. Then the dinosaurs came along and destroyed it all. I don't want to second guess what's going on behind the scenes. If anything, the mods must realise the dissapointment and frustration expressed on this forum and have perhaps responded by being more defensive than usual?
Yeah, and once they fixed the extra chunks feature, the players have left again. And since they made the announcement that there won't be anything new until 2020, even more players left.
Clearly, they are not obligated to do so, but you equally can't expect 'things are coming' to draw much more than indifference.I'm not quite sure why some people seem to think that Frontier are obligated to keep us informed every step of the way. We're customers, yes, but that doesn't give us access to their stand-ups, sprint reviews, roadmaps etc.

I agree, let the civil servants run the countryAs should apply to politicians - anyone who wants to become mod (why would you, anyway?!) should automatically be disqualified from doing so.

Perhaps some realignment of our expectations is needed these days. Perhaps developers shouldn't be too quick to show us the shiny.![]()
Elite is my favourite game, in my favourite genre. So each time I read things like this I try to remember that it is just a game. My favourite game, but a game none the less. If it dies, it dies. I mean, space games won't go away and neither will Elite.
What this community - however vocal - has taught me, is that many people feel it is more than that. That FDev owe us all something. I'm not sure I agree on that. I've kickstarted games that haven't appeared, and this one did. And it's great. I also see things like Star Citizen, or System Shock (the latter of which saw a reboot last year after the game's development went South) and read the same promises and in the world we now live in I just take it all with a pinch of salt. It'll be nice if it happens, and if it doesn't, well it was a nice ride.

The game is not Doomed.
Now thats that out of the way:
The problem with there being a DOOMEDtm thread every 5 minutes is that when one pops up that actually has some (SOME) merit it gets dismissed.
I have to agree with some points the OP made. And I have thought in the past (and pretty recently) that the game does have a very "maintenance mode" feel to it at the moment.
And the complete removal of CGs although temporary (TM) is..just god damn stupid.
o7
I also believe that such "doomed"-threats are important. Otherwise FDev just think that everyone's happy :S

Nah, game is doomed threads are worthless.
Constructive negative feedback is what the devs need. Not predictions based off personal opinion.

While I am sure you are right, it is not like FDev incorporate any of the changes suggested through constructive feedback.
