Steam Support

All this speculation is going nowhere, whatever Frontier decide to do will be in their best interest, so let's just leave it with them to decide what's best for them.

I agree but, this topic is more like a reminder !

Knowing that many fans want the game on Steam adds weight to a certain side of the balance, which is the opposite to "going nowhere".

Well, if you're right, then Frontier lie, and they do not listen to us.

This is one, or the other.

Frontier do indeed listen to their fan base, however I don't believe they will be able to implement everyone's undying wish.

Besides, Elite: Dangerous is currently available on Steam... I don't see why Planet Coaster should be any different.

Elite: Dangerous, RCT3 and Thrillville, the three games are on Steam, so Planet Coaster shouldn't be different. I talked with they and their intention is launch the game on Steam, so we shouldn't worry, I'm sure we'll see this game on Steam. [happy]

I would be happy if there's a something inside the game for all UGC things. But, it's still possible, like Steam, that you decide in a decade, to shutdown and not support the content anymore. And because we'll not have access anymore to UGC and can't download it locally, we'll lost it also.

I hope they create their own engine thing similar to steam or origin with their own version of steam workshop. I thought they were going to release the game on their own at first then on steam?

i hope not!
Its really annoying that many publishers have there own, like Origin or Ubisoft.. its completily senseless.
I have almost every game in steam except a few like battlefield or the blizzard games and its the best solution.

steam is also very good for promote the game- i think it improves the sales a LOT.

Hi.

I think it would be a good idea for the game to be on Steam for the visibility and maybe the workshop, if it was possible to integrate it...!

Steam for getting the game to a wider audience = YES!
Steam for Steam Workshop = NO!

Steam for me is especially nice to see if your friends are online, drop a message and see what they are playing. Most people like Steam also a lot because of the challenges which for me is nice but i never go to hunt down all the challenges in a game.
However, i do need uPlay, Origin, Epic Games launcher, GOG, etc... so having all games only in Steam is an illusion anyway if you are a gamer. You can add all non-steam games and launch them from within Steam.

I say no to Steam Workshop, because to me it isn't the greatest thing and curious to see at least what Frontier comes up with. A lot of room for improvement. First the things that are good are the tags, rating system, forum and comments per asset/mod, preview images.

The biggest issue i have with it is the downtime for certain functions. It often happens that you can't search or sort out the Steam Workshop, because servers are not working well and then you can't find that mod or asset you needed.
There are often problems for content creators to update and overwrite their assets in the Steam Workshop. For mods there is a restriction on what files you can upload which is good from a security point of view, but mods that mess with Windows still find their way.
When a game has a lot of assets i think the interface could still be better to give better overviews. For example it would be nice if it remembers on what page you were when you switch between categories or switch between tags.

Last thing is the customization of the Workshop by Frontier which is often not possible. For example in some games it would be nice to have a system that checks or shows info about how much a mod/asset can affect the game. If Planet Coaster ever gets mods, wouldn't it be cool they have a system that checks the file size, poly count and runs some tests before it get's added to the downloads. Remember the "No: SVID for SID" message from RCT3?

In Cities Skylines (i saw this game is already mentioned) not a lot of people look at the file size of a mod/asset. Some assets are around 28 MB which means if you only install a few of these on a computer with the minimum requirements you run into problems quickly.

I would say Steam is much more reliable than a small game developer who has lots to prove
Or at least people will trust more easily Steam than anything else. Plus even for big editor people were already annoyed (like Square or EA)
