Please turn off Collision Detection on Scenery.... PLEASE!!

First of all, yes, I do think the "footprints" (foundations) of the flat rides are too big, at least on most of them and that their are some inconsistencies. The carousel and Rocktopus are fine. But the Gears for Fears is far too big, while others might need adjustment.

However, some (swinging) rides already have a smaller footprint than their full range of motion. In RCT, the footprint was as big as the full size of the ride so the Frisbee for example would swing side-to-side. The footprint was big enough so the arm would not extend beyond that. Now in PC, the Wild Blue and 360 Power have smaller footprints so that the arms could swing over paths, scenery and other rides.

Sure, you can place scenery and buildings on paths, but guests will still walk through them. Is that a good thing?

So if the collision is permanently gone, how would you like it if you didn't know if the ride would intersect with the trees you just placed, or even worse, if it would fly right through a cliff? Maybe it's funny for a while, but I think the forums will be flooded with more criticism about the rides being broken. Simply put, without collision it will be a lot more difficult placing rides correctly. The same applies to coaster tracks.

Now, #GiveUsTheOption is not really an option. If you look at the path menu, there is already a huge list of checkboxes to enable/disable curbs, fences, supports, etc. If every "option" people want is in the game, the UI will become incomprehensible, as you'll be constantly looking for the option you want to change.

The best middle ground here IMHO is to adjust the footprints of all flat rides to be as small as possible (just enough space to allow guests to get onto the ride and to place the entrance and exit, perhaps following the contours of the ride instead of a full rectangle or oval) and making the hitbox of the swinging rides as precise as possible (if they already aren't). This way, there will be more space to place the rides and decorate them, while still preventing the arms from flying through buildings, scenery or terrain. In regards to the paths, I believe that at least buildings (so walls primarily) should block paths like the trash cans do so guests won't walk through them.

FYI, collision is very normal in games and used pretty much all the time. It prevents physical objects from passing through each other, and that's exactly why you can't place scenery too close to certain parts of the swinging rides.

Not an argument. The option in RCT3 was not even in the UI. There was no way for average joe straight off the farm doesn't even know what a computer is to load up the game, accidentally turn off colission, embed a ride into a cliff, and whine about it on the forums. Not possible.

I appreciate what you are saying, however I do not agree. I feel we are more than capable to see if a ride is clipping something and we can choose to ignore it or not. There is no reason we can just move said tree if we wanted. And if it's a cliff face we would just adjust the ride position.

I also see no problem with a ride to have collision turned on/off. You are likely to have it one or the other permanently once you've decided what you are doing with it.

I still think and agree the footprints are silly sized which leads to both long times between loading and unloading. And that of course hit boxes need to be optimised into better conforming spaces.

Edit: And as FMX says we have had it before just fine with no problem 12 years ago.

And what does it matter if people complain when a ride goes through a tree? There will be plenty of us here to say "well move it then!"

I dont think its a good idea to turn it off standard.

But as a cheat it would be nice :) (Same for coaster restrictions)

I cant understand the real reason for Frontier , to keep collision , for it's absolutly unnecessary and prevent from creativity .....

So please , Frontier , hear the voice of pc people , and give us "no collision" ( standard or cheat ) , this will make us so HAPPY ! Thanks

Why does having it under a tick box rather than having to type it make much difference? I only ask because as long as I have to select it as off surely the most convenient way is not to have to type things?

I'm coming into this a bit late but have the hit-boxes been increased since release? My themed coaster blueprints can no longer be placed. I get the "obstructed" message. The tracks or the scenery on their own can be placed, but not both. If that's the case I'd definitely like the collision to be to be tweaked a bit. I can't re-upload Treasure Guardian or Nightshade back onto the Workshop because of this.

Also, I'd like to be able to theme the flat rides a bit but the hit-boxes make it impossible. I'd like it if we get the piece to have the red outline as it does now, as a warning, and then be able to use our judgement and still place it if we want.

Reading this i was thinking of a proper reason why i said what i said....

First thing came to mind is that this game is about realism. And without collision detection you can make unrealistic stuff. So thats why i would only want it as a cheat instead of a regular option.
But when i tougth a bit longer, we can also make floating islands, flying buildings, and other unrealistic stuff....

So maybe i should take back my words...and you're right. A tickbox might do the trick as well.

That is fair enough, but yeah as long as the player can choose I think it is just the easiest way to allow that to happen. Typing words are not always the best way. There are occasions where it can be fun with odd things like making all guests have bobble heads or something because that is just being silly but when we are on about something such as this it just makes sense to me.

Thank you for point your point across and reason so we could discuss though :)

I was hoping people would figure out how to mod the game pretty quick and stuff like this would be really simple but I don't think anyone's really trying, or I haven't seen anything about it. I did start /r/planetcoastermodding on reddit, but my experience is more along the lines of XML mods and textures, so I can't really help.

I haven't even looked to see if there are any moddable-looking files, I must admi*t*. I kind of assumed there were not, or some bright spark would have made a start!

The files are all encrypted with a proprietary system nobody knows how to do anything with because the developers actively told people not to try and figure out how to do anything with them re: Elite Dangerous. So now we're years behind on working with the file types because they released a game where they practically begged people not to try and modify it, even cosmetically.

I really wished a Frontier Dev would have chimed in on this..... It get super annoying. I tried attaching speakers to my coaster lift hill like on many coasters but I cant :(
