I read some posts about a cargo pod that you drop on a asteroid and it does the mining.
Sorry to say I can't remember if it was speculation or fact.
I think mining will be in before Gamma, DDF is the place to look in the first instance on how it will work.

When will it be possible to go out to the roids and collect som recorses, and what equipment will be there for us to do the job?

yes, mining will be in the game.
as far as i'm aware a mining laser and scanners are all you will need but the full picture can be had by finding the right thread in the Design Discussion Archive:

Hi this is my first post on here i just bought the beta for elite dangerous. I am a fan for this game from the very first game i got it on Spectrum computer in the 80's. What i would like to ask is, I am a miner in space games i had a mining vessel in EvE and i also mined rocks in other space games, What i would like to know it there going to be Mining Vessels in this game and will there be differnant mining guns, Also will you beable the turn the ore in to metal on board your ship?

I'm fairly certain this is already planned, I was going to request it last week but then I read something about mining in ED, I'll try to find the page, and welcome to the ED community, if you want someone to fly with, add me, MKEEZAY420.

Gas Planet mining
Hi, will it be possible to mine gas planets, i.e. to buy and put some machines there? (like in Planetary Annihilation if you know)

They are not for sale yet are they? Only asking as last night I was having a browse round an extraction site and there was an NPC cobra using one on an asteroid...

Ah right thanks, still vey atmospheric watching other ships actually `do` things and the graphic effects were lovely (I filmed it) with dust and little rock chips flying off the asteroid, the cobra fired into the same spot for a couple of minuted then manouvered to a slightly different spot and fired up the laser again. Really cool
