Installing PC Alpha on multiple PCs?

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if it will be possible for me to install PC on both my desktop PC and my Laptop?
And what about Internet connection - will it be essential to be online for me to log into the game, or can I play whenever & wherever I am?

Thanks!

MagicalBS

Good question. I'd like to know about this as well! My sister and I would likely want to play at the same time; being able to play on multiple computers would help.

Very good question. It would be nice if this were possible. My only worry would be whether a laptop could run it. Most have crummy Intel display adapters.

I would be pretty surprised if you could install the alpha on multiple systems with only one purchase

My current laptop has a GTX 675m, I am hoping that it will run PC

I do not have the space for a desktop... Boo hoo me!

I'm awfully tempted now to buy another copy of Early Bird just for my laptop...but if I don't have to, I'd sure love to know.

if i cannot play on both laptop and desktop. . . i will feel REALLY ripped off paying extra for alpha.
i can only play laptop when travelling (every week), but desktop has better graphics, so i use that at home.
this is why i hesitated when i saw they weren't using Steam.
i assumed (foolishly?) that multi-device access was 'normal', because i have only bought through Steam for 5-6 years.

Brett C, can we get some reassurance on this?

Yes, this is the only thing that is stopping me from making the purchase for the Early release.... Someone give us some info please

Hm, I guess you CAN play on different PCs. I come to that conclusion since otherwise us Early Birds
would have a big problem when buying a new PC during Alpha, or if we'd have to format our drives.
All this would lead to be suddenly excluded from Alpha if you could only install it on one PC.
Therefore I'm almost 100% sure this will be no problem.

lawyers and marketing people are not always gamers.
i would prefer Frontier clarify this.

If you go to the my downloads page on the frontier store website it says that there is unlimited downloads left on both the alpha and release version, but that could change easily.

The game was mentioned before to require authentication online when starting the game at least, now as far as multiple computers on the same account (as the game is directly registered to one account) sadly you would be out of luck if your looking to do this. If your looking to download on multiple machines, nothing stops you from doing that. Think of it like steam or the rest of the MMO's out there, one account, one login. Want more, have to buy more, just like most titles today, if you thought differently, sorry, it's part of the era of copy-write and gaming :) Want verifcation you can wait for it OR you can take the example from them in their previous title release title Elite, same deal.

Finally a direct quote, (just need to look guys)

Will Planet Coaster support offline play?
Yes. It works in a similar way to Steam – the game can run offline but needs to be periodically checked against our servers.

I now for sure that you can install the game on more than 1 computer but you can play 1 session at a time.
And by the way, There are two ways to download a game.

1 Complete download the game and store it on your hard drive.

2 Via a tool(installer) aka auto installer (patcher),store this on your hard drive this checks for updates and patch the game if needed (all Blizzards games works so)

right now i have three installations of Civ 5 on one Steam licence; a laptop, a desktop, and a windows tablet. If i put them in offline mode, i can play on all 3 without a problem. only the online MMOs, like Eve Online, require login every time. All other steam games that i have allow me to play offline.
"it works in a similar way to steam" is all very well... "similar" is not "the same", so your "direct quote" isn't very helpful, we have already quoted that quote several times on these forums and asked for clarification. None yet received.

It seems obvious by now that we will be able to install PC on multiple devices, just as with Steam/Blizzard games.
It also seems as though only one instance of the game can be running at once, hence the checking against their servers. This is a bit disappointing, to be honest. When I buy a console game for 50€ I can play with 3 friends, even though I only bought one game. I would really like to be able to explore PC with my best friend sitting next to me, e.g., and given that I already paid almost double for the Alpha than I would for a normal game it seems only fair to give me that possibility. I realize that the checking against the server is necessary as an anti-pirating measure (although, let's be honest, it will be pirated non the less), but it seems harsh to make me pay 50$ extra just so that my buddy and I can play simultaneously (mind you, he pre-ordered the game, just not the Early Bird Edition).

Either way, shouldn't Frontier be happy to have more Alpha-Testers? Maybe the way to go is to allow multiple instances until the final release and then make everyone who wants to play own the game personally. I'm sure that nobody would mind paying 30$ for this amazing game, but 70$ each seems too much given that it's only an Alpha.

What is the problem you pay for 1 game and you can play at 1 computer at a time [weird]
If your friend want to play early aces buy it , ore take a coffee and let him play for 15 min .

I agree, even if I think that the Early Access is overpriced (my unpopular opinion), it's still totally normal to pay one copie of the game by player ... [bored]

OK that it, I took the leap of faith, damn it like a hundred bucks for us here in Singapore cause of the currency conversion.

I make the purchase not just solely for the game, but also to show my support to Frontier and the developers!

I get it James, but take it for the wording "don't look into it" , it says it pretty plainly that you will be able to use the alpha one account at a time, IE sometimes the system will check online statues to verify the account. No doubt after 30 min (or whatever time they deem) if your not contected online it will shut the game down. "IF" they added the periodically check method, but sense their quote in their own FAQ says such, you must assume it's in. Sure you can look for "Validation" but I doubt you will get anything other then what is posted. It's protection for them from copies, hacks what have you , it's the new age of gaming, copy protection or better known as DRM, is gone and online verification is the new norm. Just saying, I get what your asking but it's pretty much answered quite clear on the FAQ, one can hope that this is not the case, but if not, why have the periodically comment on the FAQ? pretty much answers the question.
