Installing PC Alpha on multiple PCs?

I get it James, but take it for the wording "don't look into it" , it says it pretty plainly that you will be able to use the alpha one account at a time, IE sometimes the system will check online statues to verify the account. No doubt after 30 min (or whatever time they deem) if your not contected online it will shut the game down. "IF" they added the periodically check method, but sense their quote in their own FAQ says such, you must assume it's in. Sure you can look for "Validation" but I doubt you will get anything other then what is posted. It's protection for them from copies, hacks what have you , it's the new age of gaming, copy protection or better known as DRM, is gone and online verification is the new norm. Just saying, I get what your asking but it's pretty much answered quite clear on the FAQ, one can hope that this is not the case, but if not, why have the periodically comment on the FAQ? pretty much answers the question.

So. . . not at all "like steam" then, is your assessment.
I hope you are wrong.

Just going off their past and other development houses, the asessment as you say I would think is pretty much right on, I get what your talking about , I do the same all the time (really nice Alienware notebook I use on the road) but alas some titles I can't do that with anymore, most of the new stuff today. As someone mentioned in another thread Simcity was one that comes to mind and latest is Rainbow Six Siege. With a title of this game being Planet Coaster, I think the base concept was to be connected online all the time. Could be wrong thou, but as far as the FAQ and their current history, yea my money is on my assessment, I would like to wrong thou. :(

How do you "now" for sure? Was there an announcement somewhere?

I've seen it in my crystal ball, but seriously, install the game login into your account play (play later offline) .
If it does not work so,they can shoot me leak (Dutch expression ) [big grin]
Its totally not don if we can NOT install it on more computers, BUT play it on 1 computer at a time.

And certainly next week 22e we now it !

Found this on reddit, this how Elite Dangerous works.

That would be great, I hope this is the case!

No reason to think PC will be any different to Elite which can be installed anywhere but only played while logged in and can only login in on one device at a time.
It's the logical approach anyway so why would they change it?!?

All of this is very simple.... If you want to play, you gotta pay. Why is that so hard to understand? Pay once, play once(per machine).... Having said that... what happens to the game (and my investment) if the server is down, or for some reason they fold the tent up and quit? I'm sure it will be hacked within a week, but what happens to the ones that don't want a "hack" fix? [yesnod] Watch the traffic between Windows10 and MS... WOW![rolleyes][rolleyes][rolleyes]

https://support.frontier.co.uk/kb/faq.php?id=141 noting this portion in particular:
[...]] The game can run offline but needs to be periodically checked against our servers.

noted, so given that "annually" is a version of "periodically", that's fine then.
but "every 10 seconds" is also "periodically", and that's not fine.
the note, therefore, is useless.

will i be able to play offline for 1 to 10 days?
1 days = longhaul journey from NZ to USA.
10 days = while offline on a cruise ship.

will i be able to play on laptop while travelling, and then desktop at home, with one licence?

Well I don't want to see this game hacked do you ?

As a PC gamer I hate seeing hacked games on torrent sites. I want Planet Coaster to make profits from this game not loads of freeloaders playing hacked copy.

Many airlines and cruise lines now have internet access. I can see the need for periodic check-ins to counter piracy, though. Frontier has a right to protect its intellectual property, even though it may inconvenience us from time to time. Sadly, it's the world we live in.

Cruise internet is super expensive!

I'm more worried about playing on my laptop and desktop. I plan to get it on my desktop, but I want it on my laptop as well so I can play it on the go.

Is it? I've never been on a cruise. That may make it more difficult.

All Cruise Ships have at sea WiFi connection, but it's not free, and is usually charged per hour, per 24 hours or weekly. It works out at about 50 p per hour, £7.25 per 24 hours, or about £35 for seven days. That's what Fred Olsen and P&O Cruise lines usually charge. Mobile phone charges are usually higher when using at sea.

Wow! I had no idea. I can see your concern.

hehe if i was on a cruise ship,. the last thing i would do is be on a computer playing a game ;)

edit: oh and too James, why I don't know that exact answer , I believe the following as it seems the norm in most online gaming DRM checks as this one is, usually, when you log in first time and leave the game running you will be fine. I am again guessing as with other titles, the usual check was every 4-12 hours while the game is active. That has been my experience, might be different here, but looks like the same tech. Some games will come up with a notice saying , "active server not found, please login to a internet connection to continue" while others say "Active server not found, please verify connection" and the game sticks on a splash screen till this check happens. I am guessing on the first, will say "please connect... " but still plays on but if you stop the game it won't until you reach another connection to reactive the game.

Now again, this is all a guess, but there are ample suppliers of these online check applications that can be bought, unless Frontier made it from scratch, not sure they would go that far, might be wrong thou.
