FSS rework

I strongly suggest that you, please, allow the 'honk' to reveal all bodies in the system map - but only as pictures of the bodies on the map and add them, with distances, as "Unexplored", in the navigation panel.
Then one could use the FSS, if sufficiently interested by the system map/nav panel reveals, to use the FSS on the bodies to actually 'discover' them.

Sounds good to me. Especialy if you could fly up to "unexplored" if you wanted to rather than using the FSS on it. Then players who find the FSS to be more of a chore than flying would have the choice to avoid its use while those who find flying a chore would be able to avoid that.

I would be okay with black orbs and none targetable.

Other then that, a big no from me. It would render the mechanic of finding the planets in the FSS pointless.

Oh no. Full, glorious colour pics of the bodies on the map, just no info beyond that and their distance. No ‘discovery’ ‘till near enough or using FSS.

I would be ok with that. Only thing I'm interested in is a global layout of the system, something the old honk revealed. I don't care much about planet types, or surface details.

I'm interested in systems like:

I am also interested in systems like that. I just prefer to discover them myself instead of having something do it for me.

I would support that one hundred percent! I have opened a similar thread on Tuesday: "Allow use of pre 3.3 Advanced Discovery Scanner".
It's that I, along many others, would love to see reintroduced.

Blimey! Vandaahl that top system is a great find.
Its not mine though, it isn't even a good example either because with the current ads and fss, this system will be instantly filled :)
I couldn't find any pictures of quaternary- or quinary planet systems. I ones found a quaternary planet system myself, but lost the pictures 2 years ago when my old PC crashed.

Anyway, I was trying to say that exotic system configurations (regardless of what they are made of) reveal themselves after scanning, and with the current implementation, its becomes mind numbing very fast. With the old implementation, the system map was the starting point, while with the new implementation the system map is the actual goal. In that regard, both implementations are equally bad, because they only serve one end of the spectrum, while they could serve both.

Imo.

But you get all of that with the FSS, you just don't get it INSTANTLY. Yep you actually have to work for it, put in a little effort, it isn't given to you on a silver platter. Plus there is an added benefit, during the scan process you get to see the orbital characteristics of the individual planets, how close they are to the body they are orbiting, it is right there in front of you. Perfect for those who only want to take selfies.

If by "work" you mean enduring something really bad, then yeah, that's the FSS.
That's a matter of personal prefference. One might ike FSS others might not. The key here, though, is making the system map available for those who seek something different from exploration gameplay. Allow all groups to carry out exploration their way.

What unlike the people who used to fly out there and tag that stuff? Before the FSS it was pretty simple, if you wanted it you put the effort in, if it was too much for you then you didnt. And that was completely in line with the rest of the game. The FSS was made for people that couldnt at the expense of people who did.

Wrong.

Given your vast and extensive experience using the FSS, care to explain what you are unable to do with the FSS that you could do with the ADS. The only difference is the time it takes, which is actually minuscule if combined with having to individually scan a planet (i.e. the old DSS method). Come on Burkey, you are the self proclaimed expert on all things FSS (well at least what is wrong with it), tell us what you can't do with the FSS!

See that picture that i said was a good find above. When i look at that system map the first thing that comes to mind is, what a shame no landables. I know that instantly. It doesnt mean im not going to work to tag the system it just shows me whats there so i can decide if its what im looking for. The FSS forces itself upon you before you can make that choice and hands you those tags without putting any effort in at all. This has been said so many times now im surprised im having to say it again.
