The Star Citizen Thread V10

So, I am an early backer of SC with more than I want to admit to in contributions for fancy LTI ships.

I wrote a thread over at SC about leaving the game in my last will and testament to my grand kids to play, because It's still in "alpha" after almost five years of development and I still can't get the ships off the pad, much less go anywhere.

I was thinking about selling my entire contribution membership on e-bay, as I see hundreds of ships and game packages for sale, to cut my losses.

I was not interested in SQ42, as it just reminds me of too many other PVP shooters I can play which are completed games available now.

So, with all that I have read about the company selling off percentages, no new lines of credit and devs defecting elsewhere, I think it may be time to get out of this while prices and interest on e-bay is high. I could get twice or maybe three times what I have invested.

Any beta on this project, their financial wows not withstanding, seems at least three to four years out.

As well, Chris Roberts efforts to bring his vision of Wing Commander back to life has now gone astray, into some other vision not many get anymore.

I just read this:

Seems SC will be giving away 10% percent of the company in exchange for the new investment capital.
Sorry. Since Christmas last year, that's old news....

Now had Kotaku or some disillusioned SC fan boi leaked a secret negotiation by Chris that gave away anymore of his vaporware to date, then that would make for an interesting bit of gossip.

Well the city do look nice, but still no "weight" in the game, that landing looks like you're landing a balloon.
Hmmm...yeah FM are still messed up but far better then before....now you can feel inertia....here I recorded this small video bellow in atmospheric flight over Daymar with very aerodynamic ship I hope that you guys can notice the difference with new FM.....

You're a bit out on your fact there.

1) Its not 5 years of development. From kickstarter it is almost 7, and if you believe CR, then its 8.

2) You will likely make a loss selling your ships, unless you have something that is really in demand. The grey market has been deflated for a long time. You'll be lucky to make half of what you paid.

3) Not will be giving away. They have already sold 10% of the company. It happened last year, around August if memory serves me right. CIG didn't think it important to tell backers at that point, and it was only after they released their financials in December and people noted the sale did they admit they had done that. One would have thought that a company that is so open and honest with its backers would tell them about selling off 10% of the company the backers paid for.

I can't find the pdfs but I think it was actually sold in March/April but the glorious backers weren't told until August, because most transparent development ever.

Backers were told in December. Do you have that link to the actual date of the share sale to the investors?

I think that's covered by "I can't find the PDFs" ;) It's entirely possible I'm misremembering it, but there's a limited amount of effort I'm prepared to look for this stuff on a Sunday. 😎

shame on you!
The Guard Frequency podcast covers all the CI[G] financials in detail, partly because one of the contributors, Tony, is a lawyer. I think CI[G] described it as an investment to assist with marketing rather than as a sale of 10% of the company. Whatever they call it, they have someone wanting a return on investment, so they now have an enforced deadline for S42.

They can describe it however they want, but it was still a sale of 10% of the company.

One way of looking at it is 10% of everything every backer has contributed towards building the company and development of the game was sold to a third party.

CryEngine... oops, no, wait StarEngine... or is it Lumberyard?
Just to be clear: I wasn't joking when I wrote "last-gen". I've seen some visually very impressive AAA games released recently on current generation consoles. The video is a throwback to render technology, that was current seven years ago and it's obvious to anybody not stuck in a pre-release techdemo for almost a decade.

Wasn't Chris Roberts collecting 200+ million dollars to bring PC games ahead of the curve again? Is this the intended result? What is all that super-expensive Taiwan-Chinese hardware meant for? Epic Store micro-transaction sinks?

To me this looks, like... well... if the plane (refuse to call that ship) had engines from all the sides (not correction ones, imagine 8 engines in all directions) and was just switching them to look "kinda like" flight. Which I imagine is what actually happens programming-wise.

As long as it flies straight, it looks decent. Once you start turning... man, no way the flight model (i.e. balancing the air resistance via elevons, tailerons and such; or using small-ish correction engines) could produce those forces.

Oh....sure don't get me wrong this is far away from perfect but also I can not denied that this new FM are less "arcadish"then previous model.....after 7+ years CIG finaly did some significant and positive changes in FM......

If someone makes something that is good, I would be one of the first to point it out, no matter how much I dislike the company or person doing it.
That being said, they have made progress yes, however this is not really a simulation of flight, and even if we for a moment say, well it's not a simulation, then at least it must give you the illusion of flight and it does not. No gravity, no nothing, not even the fake ailerons are moving, why are they even there?

A change to an actual realistic flight model is something a games developer should be able to do.
It points to some serious issues with the engine or the ability of the coders.
Games have had decent flight models for years, for some reason it's a huge stumbling block for the greatest space game of all time!

This looks really cool. I only wish it was in VR.

The guy is only running a 1070. I may have to reinstall this game.

I'm playing with a 1070 and i7 8700 with 16 GB ram and the game performance is very good.:)

That's some amazing FPS you are getting in those JPGs :p

How about a video though?

Also, nice bit of hardware, i suspect Arccorp would turn my game into a slideshow. But we all know that optimization is only ever done at the very end of game production /s

I think its quite clear, that until i can get a better comp, no way will i be able to enjoy SC on release. Fortunately release is probably many years away.
