PvP I've been corrupted *sigh*

I'm hesitant to add anyone here to my group because I'm really a bad pilot right now.
I'd die of shame if any of you actually saw me fly.
I just got rudders - so I actually flail when I fly.

I'm not even ready for tips at this point - I'm just trying to paint pirate ships with a beam while spinning out of control towards an asteroid in the hope that the Feds will polish the guy off. My friend and I brag to each other about escaping Sidewinders - seriously, it is pathetic.

As for murdering me - let me turn in my bounty vouchers first and then you can murder me.
The ship is cheap to replace but those bounty vouchers are a total freakin' shame to lose.

If you wait until you are ready you will never be ready. Just fit an interdictor & be prepared to fail a lot (or have people Clog on you). You could find a mentor but imo the fun is in learning the hard way, by making mistakes & paying attention. Ultimately if you want to compete with the best you're going to need to train & that's where a mentor will help - a step I deliberately choose not to take. Play your own way, I play mine & 6,000hrs into the game I'm not bored & have plenty to do.

We should do a CQC night just for laughs. It's totally not a ploy to murder Wargfoot over and over without consequence.

(Yes. Yes it is.)
I'm not sure why you'd need CQC for that.
Lure me into a Harazdous zone, start a fight, and then combat log.

Well, part of my training is that I fly with FA Off and I only use fixed weapons.
It is frustrating as hell to see my friend flying around getting kills (FA On, Gimbled Weapons) while I'm spinning around quite nearly helpless.

However, every couple of days or so I get a little bit better.
By little bit, I mean on a scale of 1 to 100 I may track upwards +1 from a 6 to a qualified 7.
I practice calming down and not thrashing at the controls - or maybe just dodge asteroids for 1/2 hr.
Just the other night I kept my speed reasonable during a fight instead of maxing out in one direction or another.

I'm waiting for those moments when I become "one" with the controls and where I acclimate myself to things enough where I no longer have to think in order to adjust.

I know it is odd but that is what is intriguing to me about this game - the real world skill it takes to be able to fly well.
I'm a great deal of talk on the PvP forum but it is going to be months of practice before I could even annoy anyone here in game.
I'm in no hurry - I've run through so many games so quickly that it's nice to savor this one.

Do you PvP in other games? My background (other than Elite) is racing sims. I'm competitive but I'm an achiever and an explorer (of game mechanics) not a killer or particularly sociable, I'll learn a new skill because I need to be able to do it rather than being religious about it. I can fly FA-off, I'm not great at it but I can stay on target & strafe, I toggle FA off & on as required but in combat it's usually off. My weapon of choice is a long range fixed beam, where I need to remain on target for a while, and I use a Hotas (T-16000 FCS). That combination means my effective damage is relatively low but I enjoy being smooth & precise - how good I am compared to another player is less important to me.

You will find your own way to play, if you want to be able to compare yourself favourably to others you have chosen a good way to start ;)

Do you PvP in other games?
I played Shadowbane and DaOC.

I was a Warg (hence the name) in LOTRO.
My first ship was named 'Ettenmoor' which is the PvP zone in LOTRO.
My current ship is named 'Hoarhallow' which is a hobbit town in the PvP zone full of very tasty hobbits.
In short: I was EVIL in LOTRO.

I'm not sure if I'll like the PvP here quite as much because running around as a warg eating hobbits is comical.
Here the PvP community seems a bit more serious, perhaps?
My approach to PvP was pretty forgiving - I'd often ask pack members not to attack someone we recently killed or we'd just scare them and move on.

I wasn't very good at that either, but we had tons of fun.

don't... don't say "clog" in these forums... you'll have the place filled with rabid redditors in no time...
Last time I played CQC I got logged on halfway through the match. Spend ages watching the roundyroundy, finally get paired with someone, blast them a couple of times, and suddenly a notification that there's no other players in the game and it'll end the match in 30 seconds. Oh well.

Some of you need this, I guess :)
