Space Force Presents: Operation Drag Queen

I never discounted the potential effect on the player, I simply stated that actions I have my CMDR perform are generally targeted at other in-game characters. Any negative impact on a player is an unintentional, and generally unavoidable (if I am to play my CMDR without overt out-of-game influence) side-effect.
Forgive my ignorance...

What role are you playing in-game, Morbad? (not a criticism - I feel I should already know but my memory fails me!)

Correct. This is just my subjective opinion.

And I stand by it.

Ok, you are correct. Is blackmail better? Because that's what it actually is. "Do as we say, or else will keep ganking people" or in other words "we will keep ganking people until you do as we say".

Its pretty weaksauce regardless of what you call it.

Gankers: Fix this or we will keep doing what we always did and will continue to keep doing anyway regardless of what you do.

FD: Ummm.... i see...

You guys are really missing the point here.

With these new changes this doesnt give people the chance to improve. Yeah, some of those guys already got nuked before. But now, not only will those same guys die. But they wont know why. They wont have the chance to out maneuver.

This has caused a ripple effect and in turn makes a lot of other modules stronger. Very strong as a matter of fact.
Believe it or not this is not just about drag. Or the same people dying.

You have to give the chance for people to improve. This also removes tons of skill that is required to learn how to improve.

Remember when we played super mario bros? And we kept falling in the same hole, or died to the same turtle over and over again? Over time we figured it out and got better.

This removes that capability. Skill is not rewarded. Its straight up murder for for anyone on the other end.
Please take the time to think this through and stop being so shallow.

I just choked on my coffee!
If this affects PvP so badly, everyone will fit it, then the playing field is levelled. If it is so awful and prevents progression then no-one fits one and the status quo is observed...

Regardless, if you are a PvP player the change will be accommodated in some way - and respected players have already posted that it is just 'inconvenient'...

Sorry if you conceive this to be shallow :)

The Replicated Man

I think many people in this thread are thinking as follows.

They are ignoring the fact that drag is really OP now, and makes it really hard to have balanced PvP engagements. They are focusing on the fact that the dirty Griefers or PvPers in Elite are the ones that are complaining the most about this and that makes them happy.

Ignore the problem because you don't like the type of person/individual who is pointing out the problem.

Either it's the old Ostrich sticking it's head into the sand scenario, but in this case the ostrich is snickering to itself.

"Oh it's not bad!" "Doesn't change anything" Just screws over every PvP pilot in the game.

And how do you tell one from the other?

Surely, somethings my CMDR has done have annoyed players at various times, or appeared, lacking other context to be wantonly beliggerent, no matter how justified my CMDR's actions from an in-character perspective.

For example, a story, in pictures:

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHqhHBuH_8Y

The above three are in chronological order, but I left the beginning of this story, where a wing attempted to claim a 200cr bounty on my CMDR while he was hunting in a RES, for last:

My CMDR does not like be shot at, especially without provocation (and he does not consider being wanted for reckless discharge of firearms sufficient provocation for attempted murder), so was quite aghast at being attacked by these individuals. Understandably, my CMDR sought revenge, and over the next couple of months successfully downed at least two members of the wing that originally attacked him.

I have zero animosity against any of those players, they were all good sports; didn't break any game rules, didn't even try to talk OOC crap. And even if my CMDR doesn't like being shot at, I as a player, love it when my CMDR is shot at.

Now, I'm operating under the assumption that these players, by virtue of having selected the Open mode, were ok with this sort of gameplay, and even if they didn't remember trying to shoot down some random wanted FDL weeks or months past, wouldn't get bent out of shape or take it personally when my CMDR showed up to try to send their CMDRs home in escape pods.
Morbad is my hero! Correction, the CMDR played by Morbad is my hero ;)

Some of these same guys provide content for us in Eravate, so its nice to see their names in your vids as well. After day 1 "Ragnarok" drag change I can say I've been inconvenienced in a couple of ways. First I switched my c1 emissive laser to a drag frag. But that raised my DPS so i'm killing ships faster than before. The framerate is annoying in this new version. I was interdicted a couple of times but got away as expected. I guess it will take some time for the new ganking methods to spread in such a way that escape is no longer possible? I'll keep you updated.

I read it... and?

Those invested in the game as a PvP playground have had to accomodate 'power creep' and a very narrow 'meta' build for some time - if I understand all I have read over the last year (including some very assertive comments from your good self that no-one but you understands the game) or so that I have watched the forum - and that with each change they have evolved their builds to remain 'competitive'.

No different from the change introduced yesterday, if it remains the 'meta' will evolve once more and the status quo will, once more, be observed. Skilled players will still retain their skill and would be able to implement changes to their play style, after all, like every other change, for those players it will be adapt or die...

Your very well written post could be summed up in far fewer words, but wouldn't be quite so eloquent :)

This is obviously over your head and under your feet. Thats okay.

Well, let's be honest, we are all wasting our time playing computer games anyway.
That is a different story.

Inbalanced assetts are never a good thing in an online game.

There is much truth to this statement. Well said. I would make the distinction that I'm waiting to see how this change actually affects the game before I decide what should be done about it. That may take a few days or a week of testing and empirical data. Less jaw flapping.

Let's instead hear about the competitive fights, between competent pilots, and their experiences with the new meta.

The new mechanic isn't very fun in a 1v1 situation. You get hit with drag, drift out 3-4km, not fighting your opponent. When I fought BigMaec I went with the most cheese FDL build I could. Bi-weave shield tank meta with three gimbal multis and two seeker racks with drag. He flew a Krait with frags and yielded at 30% hull. I had a dim ring of shield.

Neither of us are top tier PvP pilots by any stretch of the imagination but we are competent. It was the most unsatisfying victory I've ever experienced. Neither of us had very much fun.

How about you go throw on some Drag Munitions and let us know how you like it? Do you have Ryder or Nemo unlocked? I'm sure some folks could help you out if you don't!

They certainly do. The problem is, many of those who are doing this, also campaign for things like open only and the removal of the other two modes or restriction of features in those modes.

Its a shame that has to be the attitude though. Don't want to get ganked, don't play in open. People having to avoid certain modes due to a small number of players who delight in causing negativity.

It really is a compelling case for FD implementing an PvE Open mode. Let the gankers rot in their own stink and then watch them complain when the only targets left are few, far between, and actually competent and can kill them right back.

Get off it.

My attitude is "Open is Open." If you don't want to play that, PG and Solo are just fine. If you'd like help on thriving in Open, hit me (or the dozens of people in this thread) up for help. We'll totally hook you up.

The plain fact of the matter is the anti-Drag folks are some of the most helpful people in this game. Maybe you could learn from them.

No, because FDEV has all the power in this arrangement. They could say, "Drag Munitions are working as intended. We don't like what you're doing in response to that so this is the only warning you get before we start handing out game bans."

And what could DQ meaningfully do (besides take their case to the public and rightfully get FDEV smeared to holy hell)?

Folks, leave the real world horrible metaphors out of this. There's nothing happening here that remotely approaches hostage taking, blackmail, sexual assault, school shootings, psychosis, or all the rest.

Grow. Up.
