Roadmap leaked??

I struggle to buy the plc impact on shares nonsense releasing roadmap info isn't required to be secret. Plus even if we did buy the plc argument the recent April update would have 0 impact if they announced it in January last year or a day before it released it was a small patch so there was no need for secrecy.

The approach, in my opinion, is 100% driven by terrible marketing that still thinks going for the big bang approach is sensible.

It's not so much the impact on shares, but the procedures by which announcing new products and major updates (paid content) is done. I don't disagree with you entirely there has been a very obvious shift in communication, largely driven by marketing I suspect too, over the last 8 months or so. And it's not a change that i particularly like.

  1. Ahh makes sense I've seen arguments about market impact and it makes me think "you people know nothing" but you are very right about corporate governance and internal policies I can see how they can hold things up.

I get the feeling frontier have grown very quickly an arent sure how to be a "big" publisher and are mostly reacting to things rather than having an actual plan.

Not that I think they're doomed I think its teething issues of a very aggressive growth plan.

Maybe we'll get more info later this year, but you are right: I too never understood the need for this amount of secrecy.

It could damage sales. Would potential gamers buy Planet Coaster if they knew it's in maintenance mode, and knowing v2 is coming out? Also with JWE - JWE2 is coming so won't bother with the existing version.

IF base building is mechanically similar to that in planet coaster or planet zoo, which sort of makes sense, then presumably once done we then switch to the proper 1st person view, that could be cool, however i wonder mechanically what that will mean for VR.

back in the very early days of designing planet coaster i asked about VR support and the response was that they simply could not get performance good enough to support a usable VR experience.

I admit i may be odd... but for me if this means no more paid DLC for planet coaster, it may actually encourage me to buy the game as i will know in advance exactly how much i need to pay to get a complete game. nothing i hate more than only owning half a game.

i kept away from it in the past part for that reason and part because no VR... but i am happy to admit there really in no need for VR in it .. tho i stand by the fact that going on the rides in vr would be fab.

So from the leak, and their explanations ....

  • Dinosaur names - Supposedly findable in the game files
  • Planet Zoo title - Frontier registered the trademark a year ago
  • Planet Zoo announcement date - ?

Why the informer choose Planet Zoo and not Planet Safari, the option most commonly spoken about?

How is possible that the informer was right about the Dates of announcement and release of Planet Zoo?

How the informer was right guessing exactly the 3 kind of dinosaurs of the new DLC, before being announced?

Bases don't need to be planetary, they could also be player-built space stations, or in 'roids.
I think “inflatable” asteroid bases were mentioned by FDev way back. I think there’s quite a few things that could be encompassed by “base building” as well. Though I’m not that creative in such endeavours (my base in NMS is pretty much like the British Antarctic base, but nowhere near as fancy) I’ll still be interested in what pops up in ED.

No, no, I understand that. Keeping sensitive information safe (maintenance modes, games that are about to be canceled and similar) are valid in the business. Truth is I'm only interested in Elite and I'm trying to think of how would knowing what will come in 2020 affect me. Atmospheric landings? I'm gonna buy it. Space legs? I'm gonna buy it. Something else? Most likely I'm going to buy it because I love this game.

I don't want Frontier to do the same thing Cloud Imperium does with Star Citizen and their public roadmaps and all, but some kind of info would be nice.

Exactly this totally understand secrecy about negative things i.e stopping development but the contingent that "wont be buying spacelegs" still wont buy them telling us now instead of later doesn't change the fact its spacelegs

If this leak were all true:

It might have come via a disgruntled dev engaged on Planet Coaster, who would have direct information about Planet Zoo, and then some peripheral info about JWE and ED. A JWE2 would be on the cards anyway, because of a film sequel ?

For Elite Dangerous:

We understand that Fleet Carriers and Ice Worlds have not been abandoned, but no mention of this.

Also, nothing mentioned about atmospheric planets, but we "know" atmospheres are more advanced than they were ... we see Lagrange clouds and lightning which are one step away from Gas Giants.

The only real surprise is Player Base or Station Building, and that has been talked about on the Forums since the game first existed !

So what was the mystery new IP then that was announced before? That would (according to the map) be Disney? JW2? Avatar was rumoured.
