[BGS] Receive an income from controlled systems

At the moment, a player faction taking control of systems has no real effect in-game, with no real benefit to taking systems over, and no drawback to losing them.
If active members of a player faction received a regular income from systems the faction controls, it would add real benefit/risk to working the BGS.

... in a game where people regularly bemoan the ease of gaining credits ... why give people more? Even if you could work it out.

I'm allied with a lot of factions, and it would be a good way of keeping tenured players in easy CR - no downsides then :)

Leaving aside the fact that credits are meaningless in ED due to the constant reward inflation...

Giving people free stuff just because they happen to be in a gang is a bad idea. It penalizes people who don't want to be involved in the multiplayer aspect of the game - a game which markets itself on the fact that you can play as a solo player, blazing your own trail.

Secondly, there's no in-game concept of membership of PMFs - we only have Squadrons, which are entirely different - so that would need to exist first.

Thirdly, rewarding successful PMFs just entrenches the success of those PMFs by encouraging people to join them for the rewards. Eventually you end up with just 2 or 3 behemoth PMFs controlling everything.

Finally, there's already enough salt about the BGS and modes with 'winning' only consisting of a name on a system. Can you imagine the drama if losing a system actually affected people financially?

Personally I think that PMFs were the first step on the road to multiplayer 'command and control' hell that ED is steadily turning into.

Only if there's risk too.
If player faction loses control of one or more systems, perpetual loss of credits, until all player assets are gone, or system control regained.
Think twice before expanding.

Why? You don't control them. Players do not control the minor factions they put in the game, beyond whatever FD allow in terms of CG/event proposals.

The closest you get is a Squadron, which is a group of independent Pilots Federation Commanders, who may have a (non-reciprocating[1]) pledge towards that faction. Assuming you hook on that, how do you then stop arbitrary squadrons from pledging to the biggest factions, and continuing to provide support to whatever faction they want.

Not belonging to or controlling factions is a key component of the ability of players to freely work with other factions, because we're mercenaries, not members.

[1] That is, there is no evidence or mechanics in-game which show the pledge is reciprocated.

No, and no forever.

I played a MMO that did that, guilds could take control of towns and earn money, other guilds could attack the town, go to war against them, well according to the description they could.

What actually happened is guild A attacks town B, town B complains to the Emperor who controls all the towns in their area, we'll call him emperor X, Emperor X. Emperor X calls Emperor Y and says, this guild who is part of your empire is attacking one of our towns, tell them to stop. Emperor Y says to the offending guild, stop attacking town B or we will kick you out of the Empire.

In practice no one attacks anyone, the entire system is just a static and unchanging arrangement and the entire mechanic of guilds owning towns and warring against other guild owned towns may as well be removed because in the ten years I played it not a single town changed hands. is this what you want to happen to the BGS?
