So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

What's the betting this turns out to be some PvPer who's salty cos some people's ships aren't exploding like they should be?
Just saw the interview That Plater conducted with the Guy. He didn't come across as salty. He genuinely sounded like he had reached that tipping point of this cheating in game and went all "Falling Down". However instead of going on a shooting rampage he did it in the most peaceful way he could think of. He sounded very emotional. He said he went into this protest fully expecting to be banned. Something like this has to make the gaming press headlines. Will see what happens (if anything) after that.

LOL ... he picked a Sunday afternoon/evening .... nothing will happen until Monday morning :geek:

The game should be removing the client automatically. Simply comparing damage output (as reported by everyone else in the instance) to remaining shield health as reported by the hacked client, should be enough for this to be flagged as a serious discrepancy and potential hack.

Ideally, there would, at most, be a few minutes of this tolerated before the matchmaking servers forced the anamolous client to reconnect. If that didn't solve anything (e.g. further problems were flagged from the same client), it should move to an account suspension until the situation could be reviewed by support, who would then decide if it was a bug (in which case they'd unban the client, apologize for the the inconvenience, and forward the case as a bug report) or an actual hack, in which case they could just leave the account banned.

Point is, something this blatant should be flagged automatically and not require eye witness reports be reviewed on Monday for anything to be done. It's not like the level of telemetry required would be significant, or that subtracting one number from another would be a huge server load problem.

Probably, it's PvPers that are most affected by this kind of issue. I think it's an interesting development & I hope the player brings some attention to this issue & the wider issues & concerns others have about Frontiers level of commitment to maintaining an acceptable quality of service for all players.

Cheating in a shared environment is number three on my personal list of outstanding issues, it used to be my number one concern and it is still arguably the most pressing issue the community as a whole has.

I am indeed quite sure that people protesting blatant cheating in a game are people confronted and unhappy with cheating. Well done, Sherlock!

People who, apparently, feel that the game's reporting systems aren't good enough for them and so they throw their toys out of the pram instead.

This guy is making a point, i think.
Demonstrating just how broken ED is with the Cheat engines in circulation.
And if thats not his point... Then as far as im concerned, thats the point he's making.

The Cheat engine story kinda dried up, This might remind people. Its not gone away.

There are big issues.
We're doin' stuff!
Doesn't look like it.
We can't tell you!
Ok. We'll test it.
Err!

Well, we can only hope that it being made very public will allow the devs to look at what was going on code-wise and patch the game so it won't be so easy for people to do it in the future.

Thats just it.... The guy doing this, (if he's trying to embarrass Frontier) will tell the community what punishment Frontier threw at them.
However given how public this situation is, we can assume any severe punishment given will be token.

Does it realy matter?

Guy admits to cheating on a live-stream.
FDev apply permaban.

Which proves... what?
That if you admit to cheating in a live-stream you'll get banned?
Marvellous.

How does that reassure me that they're capable of detecting, and banning, the people who're just dialling up the DPS of their weapons by 10%, increasing their ammo or shield strength, or giving themselves heaps of credits/mat's or using cheats to hop around the galaxy at warp speed?

Stealthie, I think this is one of those times to just sit back & watch what happens. Probably nothing will come of this, but maybe something will.

Yes, it matters.
It's better than doing nothing.
Better than any kind of acceptance.
What alternatives?
At the very least these issues have more promotion, bringing issues to a wider audience.
Meh, I dunno.
