So there’s currently a Cmdr stuck in the slot, station defences having no affect, assumed he’s proving a point about cheats...

Well, we can only hope that it being made very public will allow the devs to look at what was going on code-wise and patch the game so it won't be so easy for people to do it in the future.
If they don't know what's going on with the code and they have no business working as developers. Even base level programmers know what's going on with that code. The problem is being able to detect and actually do something about it.

Stealthie, I think this is one of those times to just sit back & watch what happens. Probably nothing will come of this, but maybe something will.

And would that be a good thing or a bad thing?

If nothing comes of this, we've proved that FDev just don't care about cheating and they're either happy to let it continue or they're incapable of fixing it.
If something does come of this, we've proved that the reporting system is a waste of time and the only way things change is for people to throw their toys out of the pram and if you have an issue which CAN'T be protested in this manner you're SOL.

Where's the win?

Yes, it matters.
It's better than doing nothing.
Better than any kind of acceptance.
What alternatives?
At the very least these issues have more promotion, bringing issues to a wider audience.
Meh, I dunno.

I think you're misunderstanding me.

The point is, so what if this guy gets banned.

It's not that difficult for FDev to determine that a guy who spends 2 hours wedged in the Jameson mailslot is cheating.
They can then either ban him or not.

It doesn't do anything to reassure customers that they're capable of detecting people who don't do their cheating in such a blatant manner.

The official FDev reply will be:
"Thankyou for your concern about this matter. Unfortunately we are unable to comment on issues of this nature for reasons that have been previously stated. Meanwhile, thankyou for your patience while we work out how to unblock the slot at Jameson Memorial deal with the present situation and please share some 🍕 "

So... It's a good thing?
It's a bad thing?
Let's just ignore it all because..

More, open I've no idea. I think it's a good thing that this will be more open, more people will be aware.

Fair do, I have misunderstood your position.
Personally I see it as a PR stunt.

Like I said, the problem is, there's no "win".

If they provide the kind of response you suggest, it just "proves" they're not interested.
If they do respond in some significant way, it just "proves" that the reporting system is worthless and the best way to get something fixed is to be livestreamed exposing the problem.

I don't doubt what you are saying for one minute.

Has he gone now? I'm thousands of light years away from Jameson, so can't watch the real thing.

Lets be honest here we've known for a long time that reporting amounts to nothing, as was proven. This still doesnt mean its better to just sit and take it , call it throwing a hissy, tantrum or whatever you wish but taking this issue mainstream in the hopes of it finally being addressed or in the very least show the community that FD just dont care is a far better route than to bend over and ask for 2nds.

Is the player unkillable with shields blocking the lasers? Or is the station just unable to deplete his hull? If it's the former, would not a ship loaded down with Cascade/Reverb Torps solve that issue?

I guess it depends on the hacks used , if its only shield power then i would summise that shield breaker torps would work , however if its more along the lines of multiple tweaks to ship stats and weapons then i would imagine he is immune to damage.

All would depend on the hack and what has been set or "tuned up".

The "mainstream" hacks generally tweak much more than simple ship values , from pvp shooter games you can see where players are , what armour levels they use and weaponry etc aswell as god mode etc etc etc.
