Who has encountered a cheater using a hack?

Is it full of Anacodas and Corvetts? If so my point stands. Or do they have a standard ship everyone has to use?

CQC doesnt have anacondas and corvettes. You only have sideys, eagles, F63 and GU97. Combat is very different from the main game: it is hyper-fast (TTK is a few seconds!), you can hide behind cover (and disappear from radar/break lock). It is really a adrenaline-rush-ultra-fast-e-sports kinda thing. Sometimes you get killed 3x in 30 seconds, sometimes you kill three folks in ten seconds. Whatever you do you always get points, and if you do real well you get more points. Skill trumps all in CQC and you cant compensate poor skills with grinding.

FD state there are not many cheaters, and of course, a lot of cheaters will not be stupid enough to play in open. On the old cheat forums the hackers specifically advised people not to use the cheat in open.

However, based on reactions from some, its like everyone is encountering cheats on a regular basis. Its why i've referred to this as hysterics in some posts i've made, because people are now behaving like there is some sort of cheat epidemic going on.

The cheat devs of one cheat have apparently closed their doors, and they already went dark last year after FD shut down their cheat at that time. I understand there are other cheats out there, i was aware of a paid for one some time ago, not sure if that is still there (not looked). But its not unlikely there are not many cheaters. And after all, i think most of us are people who don't like cheating and won't cheat right?

Just to make this clear, i'm looking for response from people who are fairly certain someone was using a hack. I'm not talking about people who used exploits (like the 5/1 exploit), i'm not talking about people who combat log (through task kill), and most definitely not talking about things that some people call cheats but are not according to FD (menu log). I mean things like infinite shields/hull/weapons/etc.

If you are 100% certain you encountered a cheater, then say that. If you think you maybe encountered someone using a cheat, but can't be sure, then say so (maybe there was lag or something? You're going to have to judge your own level of certainty). If you were destroyed in a few seconds by someone and can't believe it happened without cheating, it can happen without cheating, so don't assume that was a cheater, its was probably just a ganker with a meta loadout.

Personally i can't say i have, but there again, i haven't been in combat with another player for.... hell, a year perhaps?

EDIT: damn, should have said, let's not count Mr Protest Guy, i think lots of people saw him, and i think its fair to say, regardless of what you think of his methods, he went out of his way to be seen.

Also, another point, because i guess someone will mention it, yes there could be cheaters affecting people indirectly playing the BGS or PP from Solo/PG, and yes, they probably could be getting a bit of an advantage there (doing direct jumps to systems people might have to take 2-3 jumps to to do PP actions or do missions), but that's not what i'm asking about here, i'm talking about direct encounters.
I have no idea...... there is no way to know really because only the truly foolish make it obvious. The problem is i think even the threat of cheaters spoils a game imo.
Take BF4, it got so bad that it was a rare time indeed i could finish a match without someone getting kicked for cheating by punkbuster, and COD WAW (i loved that game in MP) became totally unplayable due to crazy hacks which not only were unavoidable but they affected your character as well.

My point is, my experience is that when cheats DO exist in a game..... lots of people use them, and they do need to be dealt with with anti cheat measures. The fact that ED seemingly has no live anti cheat detection running real time i think it is fair to say there are likely more people using them than you may think. Whether or not cheating is rife in ED (and if you go to certain forums it does seem to be) but regardless it is so so important imo for FD to be seen to care about it because many people play for the competition and if there is even a "feeling" that the deck is rigged they will stop playing.
FWIW I am not competitive and and not actually that bothered about it outside of the principle in the main game.... but it has made me no longer interested in CQC which is a shame as i like CQC
A mate of mine tried it a week back and he said there were at least 2 people clearly using cheats, and that was in 1 random FFA session.

Thanks for the info, I thought it was going to be the last thing I would try so I really didn't even read anything on it. Perhaps that will change now.

Here is a good impression:

It gets a lot of bad rap around here but that is because many are vehemently opposed to anything pvp or competitive in general. CCQ is honestly a fun little thing where you have a blast if you don't take things too seriously. And in VR it is absolutely mind melting due to the hand-crafted environments (installations very close to planets and such), whereas normal pvp in the main game is typically just in the middle of nowhere.

Are you counting Botting, Agony-Aunt?

I know people who have told me they are botting for power play, as well as autotrading worth billions.

It is relatively easy to find people admitting to botting in the forums where black market accounts and services are sold. You can reach interesting conclusions based on the delivery times for the services they offer. I'd love to post some proof, but I don't want to get Moderator-spanked. You can find them easily enough by googling.

I've been playing CQC lately and I already know a few names. It seems to be only a handful of people (I've only seen one). But just one of them can easily ruin an afternoon for everyone since the servers tend to depopulate in their wake.

I think the number is less important than the net effect they have on the game. They make the game pointless for the rest of us.

I have zero interest in PvP in ED... but CQC is great. only problem is, like so many things in ED, FD got 80% of the way there then let it rot :(

it needs more content, and some proper events imo, double XP days as well as the odd new map chucked into rotation. I was convinced a couple of planet side maps would have been thrown in back in the day, maybe even an SRV combat one, if only to act as a sales pitch for people to buy horizons. Also needs options for lobbies for friends as well as bots tbh so you can get a game (i have never ever yet got into a game of KOTH and only managed half a dozen TDM games, normally its FFA or bust)

but mechanically.... there is not much to hate in CQC from my gaming POV

To the best of my knowledge I have never encountered a cheater.

My take on the cheater mania that currently has a firm grip on the hearts and minds of the ED community is that most - not all - but most of those who think they've encountered a cheater have really encountered a player that is just way, way better than they are. They can't explain to themselves how they got kil't so quick - no one is that good so they must have been cheatin'.

NOT!

I'm here to tell you that there are people of amazing talent and skill around with freakish abilities. I know a guy with 20/8 vision (he can see at 20' what normal folks have to be at 8' to see). I've seen guys at shooting matches I have participated in that can shoot and reload a pistol or revolver so fast that without paying close attention you'd never know they had reloaded. When I was in the Army I saw a seargent shoot a 1911 pistol so fast it sounded like a machine gun and put all 8 rounds into a 2" bullseye from 15 yards (and yes it was that fast - I'd heard plenty of MG's by then).

Any one seen the John Wayne movie where he played Rooster Cogburn and shot biscuits thrown up into the air? When I saw that in the movie my first thought was no eff'n WAY! Turns out - YES eff'n WAY!. Since I got into the shooting sports I've seen guys shoot stuff in the real world that would make Rooster Cogburn blush with embarassment in comparison and hang his guns up.

POINT is. People can do amazing things. Just because one sees another in ED do things they cannot explain doesn't mean they are cheating. Just because you can't do it doesn't mean those that can are cheating. Just because you get kil't in less than a minute doesn't mean the one responsible is cheatin'. It just means they are faster, smarter or some other 'er than you.

I'm not ruling out cheating - it's a fact of life in the online gaming world. But it is rare, they get caught and the cheat is fixed or the cheater is banned. AND it isn't as common as most people would like to believe for reasons already explained.

AND - that's my story and I'M STICKIN' TO IT!

...But seriously, In all my time flying in open, I've seen 2 clear cheaters, one was an annie who managed to gain ground on my boosting fully engineered cutter and the other was an infinite shield type who just sat there while several people poured everything they had at him, rams and all, without the slightest dimming of his shield rings.

A type 7 shield generator, all other modules SCB's priority rated so that when one is used up another comes online. 8A power supply and A rated power distributor could explain that. Add in engineering and it gets even more possible.

Some people create out of the ordinary builds just to see if it can be done and/or what could happen.

I've never run into a cheater as far as I know. My first two years were on XBOX. Working through year two on PC now.

Got accused of cheating once by a Cutter my wing smoked in a PvP fight on XBOX. Something about Jtagging? Don't know a thing about it.

A lot of people were surprised Newton's Fusiliers, my original group, hadn't indulged in the 5 for 1 Engineer exploit. We didn't even know about it!

But if you don't know about this, it's really annyoing. First time it happened to me I was also thinking what??

You assume it's not intended. Lag and burst damage always worked wonders in any online game. You can even build your own lagswitch in some DIY youtube videos. And yes, it works on consoles too.

I'm no combat pilot, but do find QCQ an absolute adrenelin romp, win, lose, or lose badly, it doesn't matter, you will gain rank, you will have a crazy time and if you have VR too you'll either be very sick or think you have gone to Gaming Nirvana :)

I'd accuse you of cheating every time you manage to land a shot from your murderhobo FDL on my poor, helpless Chieftain... (but I've always been a crap loser :devilish: )

I hope to be back playing in the evening again properly very soon, then we'll cross swords once again :)

Indeed. While winning is better, losing is still plenty of fun. And because everything is so action packed its constant edge of your seat fun. Plus i think its not too hard to git decent, but quite tricky to git really gud, but with practice you can get there just through playing. In the main game, unless you are constantly seeking out PvP, then there is a lot of downtime between fights, where you get rusty. The San Tu initiative is a good idea to help with that, but to keep your skills sharp, you need to keep doing it, and that takes time away from the actual game. In CQC the fights are the game.

97.2% of all people who've say they've encountered a hacker haven't.

It's 2019 Cmdrs, where are all the videos of these hacker encounters?

Easy to make claims, but the old adage of "pics or it didn't happen" would make them a lot more credible.

There are some videos out there, but yeah, i think the amount of cheating has been grossly exaggerated by some.

Currently it needs only 5minutes to start cheating: google (top hit), download, download application, run+open, start E: D and you are in.

When this is the case and you know, if you don't use it or if you use it moderately, there is zero likelyhood to get caught, and if you know, that if you use it excessively and there is still only little likelyhood to get caught or even be punished and if you know, that if you get caught and punished the first time, you just have to play a while in solo...

...if this is all the case, a lot of cheating will happen, no doubt.

In a non competitive game like E: D the direct impact to non cheating player is low or even absent for the most.

Still the indirect harm to the players and to the complete healthiness of the game is devastating, and only because the cheat exists and cheaters are likely not banned.

Would you buy a game where everybody knows that potential cheating is the norm?

I've run into quite a few of them. Infinite shields and instant jumping are rather obvious clues, but posting video of it is not allowed on reddit or the forums, so you won't see it. The posts get removed. Watch popular live streams of players who commit to open, like Harry Potter. You will see him encounter players cheating live.

The only way to know what percentage of players are cheating is to already have effective cheat detection in place. That means, they are either detecting them already and doing nothing about it, or they actually have no idea how widespread the problem is and are blatantly lying.
