The Star Citizen Thread V10

Two things actually impress me with Star Citizen. The multi-cannons and how each cockpit of each ship is different and unique with different huds. I feel like Elites global hud is a blessing and a curse and definitely hurts the illusion of scale between bigger and smaller ships having it that way, at least in non VR play.
As long as we can't walk around it makes sense, however the cockpits do look different in each ship, just not from the pilot seat.

too bad they are not readeable.
Really? What kind of hardware do you have?

I'm sitting with a 43" 4K screen and Track-IR and the screens are VERY readable and useful...albeit a bit redundant on some ships.

Yes, in some cases you have to lean in to fiddle with the screens but that is most often not done in combat.

Ok, tried a little arena commander in 3.6 PTU and have mixed feelings.

- Combat speed feels fast and rather furious and unlike Elite it actually feels like a dogfight than a slow paced dance.

- Combat however still lacks the two important parts that will make a difference to loadouts, armour and weapon armour penetration, something not yet implemented.

- Not sure how i feel about auto-tracking gimbals even though i advocated for it since it makes sense, it does make combat feel easy but at the same time, mouse and keyboard is less fun so i'll probably go HOTAS and fixed either way.

- Improvements to eyetracking and trackIR seems to be functioning well and have it's own settings menu.

Then you are highly above average gamer at the moment, where the standard is still 1080p (and appropriate monitor sizes, certainly not 43''): https://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey/Steam-Hardware-Software-Survey-Welcome-to-Steam

Perhaps, but they were cheap, about 500 USD. But at the same time, i have a 9-5 work, a gamer wife and no kids so that might explain it.

But yea, most likely above average with HOTAS, Crosswind pedals, 43" screen and a good gaming computer...need a new TrackIR though, this one is falling apart.

I have a 27 full HD monitor, like most of the people, and I really can't read cockpit panels.

Well, how often are those used in combat?

I usually tweak something out of combat by pressing "F" to freelook, and then use the mousewheel to zoom in on the panel i want to look at.

And if you CAN upgrade to a 43" monitor in 4k i highly recommend it - they are however limited to 60fps but i have not found an issue with them.

DOOOOOM!

Some of them are pretty crucial, like heat and such. It's a thing that's been raised for like 2 - 3 years already, if not longer, across a few iterations.

My guess by this point is that the UI designer sits there with 43'' monitor and laughs at peasants and closes all reports of the stuff not being legible with "Get a bigger monitor, you cheapo" remarks.

For 500 USD I'd rather get few cabinets and a new roof for family shed at vacation house, tbh, as around here it's quite a bit of money (~half the average income).

Ouch, yea, i get that in that case there are definitely more important things to put money on that gaming hardware. Still, it's not like i just shell out money without having to save it a lot first.

They ARE working on a new HUD system so hopefully it will be more expansive so we can, like the screens select what we want shown.

I had a weird thought over the weekend: what has happened to the tanks?

Tier 0. aka JPG only.

As usual with CIG, they sell stuff without actually any suggestion of when it will be implemented.

I think this is pretty standard with CIG, them taking money for stuff without anyone actually doing any sort of cost or risk analysis on what they are selling and for how much. All it takes is a cursory glance at the kickstarter goals to see how apparent this is. They promised tons of features all for a price of 65 million in kickstarter funds, most of which still isn't implemented yet. There was no logic or consistency behind those goals. It was just "give us money and we will promise you this", and then went and developed what they wanted, how they wanted, with no consideration of delivering on those goals first.

We can see the whole "fullly landable planets" thing as a good example of this. Rather than deliver on the KS goals first, they unilateraly (not based on any vote, despite backers declaring the votes as to why delivery is taking so long and saying full planets is the reason - there is no connection between them) decided to do full planets, meaning the amount of work spiralled, and delaying delivery of the game and KS goals.

As it with ships and other things. Sell them to people and worry about delivery later, for which they will need to do more fund rasing for by promising something else they haven't delivered. Basically paying for the development of old stuff with the promises of new.

are you serious? 43 is not a monitor is a TV. A PC game and you need a TV to read information on screen like a console player?
it is not a matter of money, 43 is too big to be used like a monitor on a desk to make all PC usual things.
You can put it like you want, but to me in a game, informations need to accessible and readable on first glance, in SC it is not so.

Nah, they actually make monitors like that (and even bigger). Not that I would understand why, but then I play mostly stuff like Minecraft, KanColle and Elite (in VR) and I don't need size for any of those. In the end, to each its own, maybe Snarfbuckle just enjoys big thingies with peripheral "feel" or something.

It's actually a monitor.

And it's still smaller than the regular TV we have for console games.

A larger screen and the ability to have a higher resolution tends to reveal details not normally found with a smaller monitor (I cannot seriously go back to a smaller monitor after playing Path of Exile on a 43" screen). It's also very nice to have in simulators when you want to look far into the distance to see a little more detail at range and that's when the 4K resolution really shine.

That said, it's not optimal for ALL things since the size creates some problems with things being on opposite sides of the screen and not everything is always perfectly in your center field of vision - but for flight sims? For flight sims it is GOOOOD.

After all, i merely switch a 3 screen setup of X3 24" multimonitor setup for a single 43" 4K screen.

There is also the interesting detail that with 4K resolution i can always skip anti-aliasing since it is not really required at that resolution.

I do hope CIG doesn't bet solely on people getting expensive hardware to magically get over their own bad habits and stinky (or simply lack of) design.

I do not need CIG in order to get myself to purchase more hardware - there are plenty of more games that do that for me - Elite Dangerous for example.

Not to mention, it looks damn better to have one large screen than 3 smaller screens linked.
That said, i would not mind a 4k ultra wide screen but i have yet to find one at a reasonable price.

My wife is worse, she is planning to put up X3 43" screens but i doubt it will fit on her desk.
