Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

If Carriers are persistent and pan-modal then I doubt that they will be able to be damaged by players - as I doubt that Frontier would be able to find space to store the salt mountain that that would inevitably produce.
'Damaged' is relative. We can't damage megaships like the Thargoids can, but we can target their defense turrets, power couplings, etc. We can also break the hatches and steal cargo. I can't imagine that Frontier would leave this mechanic out of the game for FCs, especially considering how proud FDev was of those 'scanner effects' when they announced it. It would make for some epic PvP, but without the risk of losing the entire carrier to destruction - now THAT would bring a mountain of salt!

I wouldn't like to use NMS as a basis personally. I really do not like the game and don't think its a good model to use.
Again, I'm not talking about the details - see my post about fueling these things, and you'll see that I do not want to harvest planet surfaces like I have to in NMS to refuel my carrier. I'm talking about the 'big picture', where my Squadron owns the ship, but NPCs 'fly' the ship. I just give orders to the crew where I want the carrier to go. I use the freighter like a mobile base, which is how I think many people are thinking FCs will be used.

"Epic PvP"? When the Carrier could be attacked in any mode?
Well, when you put it that way.... I would be a bit distraught to see my turrets magically exploding because someone is shooting at them from another instance.

Now I have a new question - how do static megaships currently in the game handle this? If I'm in solo visiting a ship and some else in solo starts blowing the turrets, will the turrets magically explode in front of me, or do we live in separate realities where the megaship is fine for me but under attack by someone else in a parallel universe instance?

This is more confusing than the Avengers Endgame!

Different realities.

i dunno.... i think i can grok a billionaire buying a fleet carrier more than i can accept telepresence accross the galaxy when it is otherwise limited to 3km in an slf and why small packets of exploration data cant be sent using the same system.... <shrugs>. FD gonna do what they gonna do.
(I say this as someone not convinced that a lone player should be able to fly a fleet carrier by themselves either btw)

Is that implying that if it's squadron only, then to move the carrier will require the online presence of a minimum crew?

Yes, parallel universes
From the moment you enter the sign of a megaship, the game generates an instance for you that will have all the occurrences and circumstances that entail from each action of yours, as defend
In how much another player in solo play, will be generating a personal instance for him where he can attack the same ship "in his alternative reality"
When you leave the instance your action will be counted for the final BGS and the same will occur for the other player on ground, making the big BGS tug of war turn the wheel of destiny

logically that would make sense (if we use the same arguments that some of those against a solo CMDR having one use) but i would wager significantly that this is not the case. I bet even if you have to have 100 people in a squadron to get it., once the fleet carrier exists, even if only 1 person is active it will work just fine, thus failing the same prerequisite requirements that some of the players in this thread are concerned about.

Thats fine.

Seems to me the only difference is that solo players have to pay more to buy access to their own squadron.

on PC.... on console it should be trivial to create sock puppet accounts if you choose to, then it will be the "simple" matter of affording it with credits and then grinding the fuel to make it jump. (at a guess)

As I said earlier, i doubt that these will be persistent and visible to everyone. My best guess is it would only be visible to the squad when they are online. They would only be visible to non-squad members if they are winged with a member of that squad. I think this would solve most of the crowding/instancing issues, unless these bad bois are meant for combat

After being so silent for so long, I kind of wonder... was this teaser trailer released with so much no information to serve as a smoke screen? Or just to stir up the community, like a kick to the beehive (and no, that’s not a euphemism), or has the brain pool been exhausted and they’re on a fishing expedition for what to actually do with these?

Frontier would never just post a random idea to stir up the community! (cough "open-only power play" cough)

It can't be that simplistic, otherwise a griefer will follow my low wake only to see me disappear into nothing, and then he'll accuse me of combat logging when in reality I docked with my invisible (to him) fleet carrier.

AdamBW has already indicated that they will be visible to other players (but non-Squadron members won't be able to dock).

They wanted to do something .... anything .... that would make a stir at Lavecon, I should imagine. The trailer gave the impression it was put together quickly, without any frills. Good enough to test reaction and stir the feedback.

Let's face it, they had precious little else to reveal about in-game activity. I mean, ARX as a game feature ....

Either is better than stone faced silence.

I think we're happy to oblige if frontier are on a fishing expedition.

Long range exploration or bust. Full station capability please. Within reason swapping out a commodities market for storage.
