Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

Well, if this is a Frontier fishing expedition, I'll toss my "Pocket Carrier" back in (Large-pad dockable, Small pad on topside, carries 3 Small ships, can load ships to/from station ship storage while docked) and suggest it as a possible solution to the Fleet Carrier "one ship per CMDR" problem.

Load up your Pocket Carrier with 3 Small ships, dock it on your Fleet Carrier, and unload. You now have 3 shuttles onboard which you can use to go fetch other ships with. Repeat as necessary.

Fleet carriers are one thing but I'd be happy being able to take an Eagle or two with my Anaconda to stretch legs and fly fast about a planet out in the black (and the land and go for a drive in an SRV).
Not all fleets have to be that big.

Because by leaving the option available to us, and letting us see if it's too grinding, demanding and tiresome to use, would be our choice, not enforced upon us. Also, my fleet consists of many ships. My ideal use (depending on FD's implementation) to have a small FC in the void with 1-3 ships and play around. Just see the potential.
And regarding that cooperative play, I can imagine 30 member squadron, 29 of which will never decide or see the actual piloting of a carrier. 29 carrying fuel and materials 2-3 hours a day - worst case scenario - for the leader to appear once, check if everything is ok, and jump where he/she decides to go;). I bet it will wear off really fast.

Fleet? No. You are not a fleet. You're simply a dude who has many ships.
A fleet is when many ships operate together at a time.

A rich person who owns 50 car makes him a collector.
A group of people who owns cars make a car club.

A spectacularly bad analogy, because SOLO PLAYERS HAVE FLEETS.

A more accurate analogy would be to decree that only married women can have babies, and the offspring of unmarried women should be officially designated "humanoid pets" to deny them access to maternity leave.

No. A single person who owns 50 cars is a collector. LOL.
A group of people who own cars and then go out for meets and drives together... that's a car club.

You ain't no fleet until all of your ships fly together.

I equip both a fighter hangar and an SRV bay in my exploration Conda. I think what you want is already in game
I have a fighter hangar and SRV's in my Anaconda too.
I said about a flyer bay that could take something like an Eagle that could also take an SRV aboard.
Leave Anaconda in orbit, fly down in a smaller ship, land smaller ship, drive around.

In my experience with police departments and trucking companies, the vehicles are collectively referred to as a fleet, regardless of how many are in operation at the same time. I think your analogy isnt very accurate. A car collector might have a "collection" of special vehicles. However I feel "fleet" would more apply to vehicles used for work or some function. My ships are working ships, and thus a fleet that needs carrying

I was thinking that, but actual definitions of the word are somewhat vague:

fleet
noun
a group of ships sailing together, engaged in the same activity, or under the same ownership.
or
a number of vehicles or aircraft operating together or under the same ownership.

So you can say it's a number of vehicles operating together - which isn't one CMDRs ship collection, or you can say it's all the ships owned by a CMDR. Both are fleets, but very different definitions. fdev will have to say what they mean by fleet.

English eh - so good for defining precise concepts :)

Half true.

Fleet: "a number of vehicles or aircraft operating together or under the same ownership. "

A person having 50 cars have a fleet. Consider this video for instance, car collectors have no trouble referring to their collection as a "fleet", and I've heard and seen that term used many times over the years for car collectors and their fleets.

Right, but I think its a bit of semantics. The main take away is that the carriers are built to hold multiple ships. Whether it is 1 ship/cmdr (dumb IMO) or miltiple ships/CMDR remains to be seen. We likely will not find out until after September

Completely agree - just think it's interesting to see the 'I want vanity FC' people do have a point (at least their way of interpreting fleet is equally valid, which at first I thought wasn't the case).

As you say, we will find out closer to release.

FWIW, if Solo CMDRs end up not being able to own a fleet carrier, I'm not going to cry. I actually prefer smaller ships because the big ships are too "empty" (no NPC crew). I'd much rather an NPC crew and the ability to walk around and customize the interior of the ships I own, similar to Subnautica. As I've said before, give me properly-implemented 'space legs' and my Anaconda, Cutter, Beluga, etc will actually feel like megaships themselves!

Without space legs, megaships are just going to feel like every other copy-n-paste docking pad / hangar in the game, which of course we only interact with via the chair our elephant butts are currently glued to. The only potential benefit I see for myself personally is the ability to have a couple different ships available while exploring (via alt accounts), the ability to repair my ship (though I always explore with repair limpets), maybe the ability to change my modules on the fly, maybe the ability to cash in commodities like minerals mined in deep space, and maaaaaayyyybeeeeee the ability to cash in discoveries..

They don't (currently) take Eagles though. Or ships that can carry SRV's or that can land on a planet or station.
Sidewinders can carry SRV's. Secretly, they are the Fleet Carriers... :)

Weld enough of them together, and one can do anything...
