Hardware & Technical Computer Build to run Elite Dangerous

Can i run Elite?

Hey everyone,

to be honest im not certainly sure wether this is the correct forum for my question, but i hope so, moreover im sorry english is not my mature language, so feel free to gimme some hints or ask for stuff you don't understand :)

I got a kinda old PC i7 920, gtx 460 and stuff like dat, ~3yrs old, and an pretty new laptop, which wasn't ment to be used for gaming but still (i7-4500U 4x ~1.8Gh but like no GPU except an Intel HD Graphics Chip)

So.. is there any way i can run Elite on one of my systems?
Would be so great to get some opinions on this, there is no way to check my hardware/test the game in any way so far, right?

Sincerely Morti

im running an i7-930 - but a evga 780 on SSD - absolutely fine and dandy
so is bf4

i might upgrade only because the pcie slot is 2.0 and not 3.0 but not for another few yrs

So, with all you people building shiny new rigs... who wants to sell me their old one for an affordable price?

I don't want the latest and greatest 4K or 120fps rig, just something that will do a steady 60fps at 1080p in medium settings.

I've got monitor, controllers etc so just looking for a base unit. How much are we talking?

Well just an update, with my gtx 560, and fx6300, 8 gb ram, I have just bought elite, been running it all day and it runs real sweet on my present rig.
I am waiting for my new r9 280 though, will run even better then.

I am currently running all on high, with aa turned of, and the distance slider about halfway. at 1080p, and it runs great, no lag I have noticed yet.

Great!

Thanks for 'reporting', it is good to find out how far off one's estimates have been. Not too far this time, and to the better direction (you get better experience than I dared to "promise") :).

So, I have an older rig consisting of an AMD Athlon II X2 240, with M4A785T-M motherboard, and 4GB RAM, and 256GB SSD - currently has the Radeon 4200 graphics thingy.

Anyone have any suggestion for a low profile graphics card that will work ok with this setup? I'm am happy for it to just be playable - though kinda hoping for it to be playable at 1080P, and I'm using my 55" TV as the monitor...

I wa slooking at something like the asus gt730 , but if someone can suggest something better?

Also willing to upgrade CPU to an X4, but that's about as far as I can afford to go...

Thanks,

Z...

Edit - Nevermind. Low profile GTX750Ti seems to be what is needed. Or a 660Ti is I can find one.

Question; I hope not too naive to ask.

In Beta 2 newletters mention that SLI will soon be supported.
Is SLI a generic term here, ie. will that include AMD Crossfire?

Trying to work out what kind of GPU to look at obviously :D
Many thanks for any advice.

Yes, CrossfireX is also supported apparently. The Crossfire support was actually added first according to the devs, and the work to do SLI was very similar.

During flight between planets I get pauses every now and then just seems to stall for a second then resumes. Does anyone else get this?
My system is a new build :

Intel i5 4460
Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3
Corsair Vengeance 2x4gb
2gb XFX R9 270
Windows 8.1

Yep.

As far as I understand it (and this could be completely wrong) it's down to the handshaking on the network as you approach a new "island". Especially annoying in solo mode if that is the case. ;)

Yes that's in solo mode hope they fix it.

I imagine if/when they introduce an Offline Mode this won't happen. But Solo Mode at the moment is the same Online galaxy as the Online game, just you're in a private game all by yourself. That's how I understand this to be anyway.

Hopefully an Offline Mode will be developed!

There was me thinking it was caused by some sort of electrical storm or some sort of strange turbulance - I am joking but it helps the immersion. It always seems to be around 10ls off where you are locked on to so I assumed it was an Island issue.
