Hardware & Technical Computer Build to run Elite Dangerous

My advice: decide on your budget, and don't buy from ebay - you can do better elsewhere (for a few dollars more, of course).

Thanks for that, could well be fine, but not sure about Ebay at all!

Have seen Chillblast mentioned in several places for decent gaming machines, had a quick look the other day, will go have a better look...

Self-build or off-the-shelf?

OK, a big question. But, assuming a person is capable of assembling a PC themselves, is it better to assemble your own or buy a ready built unit?

Can you do it yourself cheaper or does the bulk buying power that builders have mean that they can do it cheaper?

Are there other advantages to self build? (like knowing what is in there)

I have sent an e-mail to Chillblast and PC Specialist with a bit of starter information and see where we go from there.
Started playing around with the configurators on the websites above but managed to confuse myself even further...

With a ready built unit you get a guarantee-anything goes wrong and it is their problem. I did a self build many years ago and it worked out in the end about the same cost-maybe a little more- as having it built when Windows was added-plus I had the hassle of waiting in for couriers for some parts, case, power supply and GPU, which, as I remember, I bought from 3 different places-spent hours shopping around for best prices for components to keep costs down-particularly as I had to pay delivery on everything !
Never bothered since-usually get made to order.

My PC is just a bit over a year old.

4770K OCd to 4.5GHz on Corsair H110
GA-Z87X-UD4H motherboard
32GB RAM G.Skill Sniper at 1866MHz
EVGA GTX 680 Classified x2 SLI
Samsung 840 SSD 256GB

Running 1080p I get no less than 70fps around stations. Out in space it gets up to 130fps. When I switch to 3 monitors 5760x1080 resolution it goes down to 30fps at stations and 80fps out in space.

Mine's bobbing on a little bit but has had upgrades over the years. It's still going strong and I can generally get away with high settings in most games (although in fairness, games have been held back somewhat because of consoles, and I haven't as of yet played a port/PC version of any new games for xbox one / ps4)

AMD Phenom II X4 955 (3.2ghz)
8GB DDR3 Kingston 1600mhz
AMD Radeon HD7800 (2GB)
Gigabyte 785G
60GGB SSD (Elite was installed on this, but I'm not sure if the end game will need more space)
Think the other drive is a 500GB HDD

The choices just keep coming...
In some ways I wish ED was available for PS3/4 (they probably wouldn't be powerful enough though) just pop in disc, load and play. No hardware to worry about!

Do not be confused anymore... :D

Something along these lines, will play any game and max settings. Because this is basically what most of us have.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I always source my customers items from them, and I use companies from ebay. They are just like any other company...

However I make sure the build quality is upto my spec, if it is not, I do not recommend it...

The link I found, was just a spur of the moment thing, never used the company, however when I see posts saying, "DONT USE EBAY!" I think why not?

Why not save some money for some really good kit, why not use that money, like I have with my pc, and get more bang for your buck...

The trouble I have seen with other people posting, these other companies, is there price... Way to high for a spec build... Now let me show you something that is better, and will save you money. :D

This does not come with an operating system, however you can bolt it on, just as the company to do so, and they are very helpful, even being on EBAY...

Now this pc will play elite, at full res with no hiccups or issues at all. It is a good all round PC, that will give you some future proofing also.

And to top it off, it is using a good Gigabyte motherboard, just look at those nice big stock heat sinks!!!

I have been a computer tech for over 30 years, I started at the age of 10, with Elite on my BBC model B, and I have had my finger on computer tech since then, but just to add I also decided to get certified... ;)

Before people start screaming it is not INTEL, that really makes no difference at all. 5 extra fps, will not help you, it will look just the same, and the AMD processor also has instructions on it, that are not used by Windows at the moment. When Windows catches upto the processor, you will get around another 10% out of it, which is nice, for a pc that will meet all your needs...

So forget expensive gaming rigs, they are a total waste of money.

Now, it could be just me and my almost total lack of PC tech knowledge, but these two machines seem quite similar, a bit less memory and slightly lesser graphics card? but quite a difference in price no?

Just looking a little further in to the 2nd Ebay listing, the cheaper machine from Freshtec.
I see they have a number to call + a website + pages and pages of stuff for sale on Amazon, my brain is going to explode...

Thought I may call them tomorrow for some advice but then again I suppose I could also try some local computer shops too and see if they want my business!

Southend? '... if this is Southend, there's something very odd about it.' 'You mean the way the sea stays steady and the buildings keep washing up and down?' said Ford. 'Yes I thought that was odd too. In fact,' he continued as with a huge bang Southend split itself into six equal segments which danced and span giddily round each other in lewd and licentious formation, 'there is something altogether very strange going on.'

Me again!
I'm supposed to be working but have been doing a little looking around!

Now I know we said the 2 Ebay machines were powerful for their respective prices, but could someone just have a look at this and run the numbers, as I say, it means very little to me.

Seems pretty powerful, if I understand correctly and comes with operating system, SSD, monitor, keyboard and mouse (cheap I suspect), 5 year warranty.

Now I might be being tempted by the shiny, shiny, so wanted a second opinion if some one could oblige.

Thank you.

If you're not into assembling the PC yourself, have a look here:

https://www.aria.co.uk/Systems/Gaming+Range/

These guys so far have offered me an amazing service and quality components at very good prices.

I bought components and assembled my PCs by myself but these look much better than the Chillblast stuff. What's your budget?

EDIT: This is my latest build from Aria and it runs amazing, the only thing missing is the SSD which I re-used

I suppose the limit will be the price of the one I posted above, so £1300 but that needs to include monitor, operating system, speakers etc basically a complete set up!
