Because you refer to it as leather, i cant help but think every time i read you're just out to kill elephants.

Im pro thargoid too, maybe thats where it comes from :)

Video shows some low quality shadows on ground.
I guess that's all they are able to squeeze out of the old PS4 🤷‍♂️

That's more of a commentary on "they" than the PS4, considering the perfectly fine shadows I get from my other games ranging from NMS to RDR2.

Make sure to watch all the shadow videos (follow posted video to my channel) to truly appreciate the monstrosity of demonstrable doom that I have been dealt.

This indeed does not look perfect. But I do not want to know PC's price/temperature/energy consumption/produced noise which will render perfect images.

Finally, I get to see a sample of this 'elephant butt leather'. I don't know what's more disturbing; the butt leather, or the fact you've stared at an elephant's butt long enough to note the similarity.

is this is some console peasant thing I'm too rich to understand?
You rich folk ought donate to the "Old Duck's New Laptop" fund, and then EBL can finally be put to rest :D

They do seem to have left ps4 development hanging a bit - reminds me of the non development of DUST on PS3 (which held great promise initially) - they should at least have a PS4 pro "client".
That said (and I recall Op was thinking of moving to pc laptop ) - you don't need a "monster" pc to run ED well at 1080p - I put together and upgrade budget rigs all the time for friends and family and the cost is basically the same as a second hand console (especially if using a tv or existing monitor) - secondhand 1050ti's tend to be my "go to card" at the minute - local CEX always has them at around £100 cash (less if trading in old console, games etc).
Dont pay more than £30 for an ssd either and secondhand 1,2 and 3 TB mechanicals for extra data storage rarely break £40.
Any secondhand i5,i7 or especially Ryzen anything with at least 8gb of ram (ddr3 is a steal secondhand for older machines) is fine - Xeon E5's from around 2013 onward are great budget gamers (2.6-3.2 ghz range usually) and if bought in a secondhand ex workstation will usually come with a pile of ECC ram - Morgan computers are good for this sort of thing.
Quick example - https://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/p...1800-2000-or-Quadro-600-1GB-3D-Windows-7-Pro/
Whack a cheap ssd in as a boot drive and trade in the quadro against a 1050ti and your ready to rock.

Still sad that Frontier has abandoned the PS4, but whatever.... :(

The only reason I'm thinking about ED on PC is that I may need a new laptop for some upcoming projects. Otherwise I'd just shelve the game (I've done it in the past) until the PS5 came out and crossed my fingers that Frontier pays more attention to the new consoles than they are the current generation.

BTW, shadows look amazing in No Man's Sky and Red Dead Redemption 2, so it's not my hardware.

My only worry would be that they might not have ED on PS5 - DUST that I mentioned earlier would have been a much better idea on a PS4 than a 3 but it got effectively abandoned.
If they had supported VR Elite on the PSPro I would have traded my PS4 in for one and picked up a second account - but the pro is an odd beast - reminds me in many ways of the old Sega32 add on cartridge that let you run Doom and nothing else really. An xbox one s or x makes more sense to me at the minute if i was updating the PS4.
As I've mentioned before it's a pity SteamOS based "consoles" never really took off - but don't discount the idea of a media pc for gaming - going with something secondhand and upgradeable like my example above attached to your tv - and then perhaps buying a more lightweight and inexpensive "business" laptop for the "serious" stuff.

I totally agree with everything you are saying. I've even looked at the XB1X as an alternative for ED if I decide not to get a laptop, especially since I can get the XB1X cheaper than a PS4 Pro on Amazon! Oh, and XB1X will support Flight Simulator 2020, which is a "killer app" for me (I'd much rather have this than Uncharted 5 or GoW 12).

Speaking of abandonware on PS4, I was a big fan of Paragon. At least that game was free.

I don't want to worry you, but the EBL aside, those same shadow artefacts from your first video are quite clear on my pc at times as well. (in Elite, not other games)

That might very well be the best choice for you - less of a learning curve in terms of controls - relatively plug and play and you get a lightweight "business" laptop.
I actually have the Beta of the xbox on pc games thing and it works ok - have played Sea of Thieves , state of decay etc fine - not sure if i'd pay for it - but if I was an xbox gamer as well....
Especailly if it ever got Elite on their "gamepass"
