Best thing to do to avoid 'griefing' is to select SOLO mode - it's the second option on the menu (I think, perhaps the third - I'll double-check later); I realise Frontier placed OPEN first in line, but that means nothing - all modes are equal. They really don't want you to play in OPEN and become a victim to griefers. Play SOLO and your problems are solved.
Fly with him and you'll see how inspiring he can be.
Is he a 3.5 edition Bard by any chance?
You really dont know him very well.![]()
Seriously, how does your ego fit inside your ship?
Not much these days. I don’t shoot at people though. Moral code and all that. Why not, @Bryan K ? What do you have to lose?
Yeah. I've said it before, but the only time I've ever been interdicted by another player in open is when I've specifically gone looking for trouble in a hotspot like deciat, wyrd or shinrarta. If you're that worried about griefers (a vastly overstated and overblown threat if there ever was one) then pick solo. I
Ungraceful, maybe, but until you can quote a dev saying that menu-logging is cheating, you’re just spouting your opinion. You mean CLOGGING.
If you like to be a cheater... whatever floats your boat i guess.
Heh, that is true now that you say it - Deciat getting an awful lot 'busier' directly correlated with the appearance of the noobzone from what I can tell. Why do you think the gankers all went to Deciat?

TL;DR: I suppose a quote from Short Eyes describes my opinion/attitude towards Open quite fittingly:
"Someday I'm gonna be walkin down the streets minding my own business and Bam! I'm gonna be shot by some pig who's gonna swear that it was a mistake. I accept that as a part of my destiny."
Also, disclaimer: I don't deem person who shoots me a pig. It's just an inmate in the movie, talking about the police.
Spaceships will blow up nevertheless.
How do you know the approach employed by griefers is intended?pvp isnt griefing
the general gaming community as a whole have created a definition for griefing on wiki.
A griefer or bad faith player is a player in a multiplayer video game who deliberately irritates and harasses other players within the game (trolling), using aspects of the game in unintended ways.
Key words "using aspects of the game in unintended ways"
getting killed in open, is an intentional gameplay element.
All they want you to do, OP, is to post a thread like this. What do players get from camping by a nav beacon and constantly attacking an unarmed ship with no cargo, or no bounty? Is it just the pleasure of ruining the game for someone else, or what?
How do you know the approach employed by griefers is intended?
I hate when people sidetrack discussions with semantic arguments regarding specific definitions. It's unhelpful. Whether or not you wish to label it as griefing or not isn't really that relevant.

I’m more concerned about losing my vaguely attractive NPC (they’re a precious resource these days). You don't have to shoot at anyone if you don't want to. Or do you refuse to associate with Commanders not afraid to take matters into their own hands?
