ED used to immersive, now it's a shop front.

I feel the "BUY STUFF NOW" button in the HUD actually adds to the immersion. Or do you all think that in 3305 AD interfaces are so blissfully free of any commercials? I mean, it's the 21st century and I for one can't scroll one page on my phone without running into three ads for whatever the thing du jour is today; we have ads inside the Start menu in Windows 10 (for those of us still using the M$ OS), and there are ads inside your Smart TV menus and ATMs and so on. It's just another "I NEED YOUR ATTENTION HERE - SPEND MONEY NOW" button for me.
I tried to employ that logic but my synapses wouldn't let me. I think it's the artificiality of arx, from an in-universe perspective. It just serves to amplify the idea that this is something I can only interact with if I've got some arbitrarily-named tokens that I've bought using 21st century currency.

It would be a different story if the store was using in-game credits, but we all know the list of reasons why that's not a viable option. The game already has in-game advertising for ship manufacturers, but the difference is that you can buy their stuff with in-game currency.

I guess if you intend to only ever earn arx in-game, and never buy them, it might be possible to headcanon them into some alternate medium of exchange to credits. A sort of FOREX currency that for some reason is only accepted by ship kit makers, paint shops and apparel stores. A stretch, but not impossible.

Yeah, for me having a STORE in:
The main menu = fine
Outfitting = fine
Livery = fine
Holo-me = fine
Station Menu in game? = that's a big fat no from me

What about the above?

It's not a big deal, but I really, really don't think it belongs in the station menus. That's taking it too far imo.

This, and then some.

I wouldn't mind a store button in the appropriate screens at all, like in the livery screen but not in the Station services screen, it's insulting, a way to make sure you don't forget to spend money in the game.
They even emphasize it by making it blue, ugh.
Altough hard to imagine there are even EA games that don't go that far.

Prior to the update I had no problems with the Arx thingy or the new store at all but this stupid blue button in the Station menu is simply cheap, insulting and completely out of place.

I dare not to think of this being an indication of where this game is going.

But you're not agreeing with anything that's been said. What's being said is it needs to not be there, not that it doesn't need to be there. I don't think anyone here is complaining about the efficiency of placement.

Ummm... possibly?

I think what i'm trying to say its just a damn button and i don't understand why people are getting upset over it.

Well, it's like a painting you really like that has been sprayed with paint.
Immersion is everything in Elite for me. The whole simulation thing, science, space. Those trivial things interrupt that, yes. I rather have imbalanced combat and bugs than button prompts or local stars tinting the background, for example.

Hmm... then how do you deal with telepresence, being able to instantly communicate with someone on the other side of the galaxy, Crew members dying when you escape every time, the fact that you yourself suddenly respawn at a space station after getting blown up, every single time, etc? I could probably think of a dozen more immersion breakers that someone somewhere would find a problem with it. The game is littered with immersion breakers, and that's because, its a game.

How do you deal with those?

I'm not saying FD should have carte blanche to slap whatever they want everywhere to promote sales, but if it bugs you, just imagine the button to not be FD's store, but the station's interface with the local paintjob guys. I mean, if they put it under contacts and called it Spray Job Specialist, would that be better?

Yep. Not great. Reminder to set fire groups has bugged me for a while too.

Would love all this to be bundled up with PreFlight Checks or something ... toggle that on and you can get all the reminders you like, toggle off and no more press J to disengage.

I get why FD are doing it but for people who have hundreds of hours under their belt, it does break wall 4. Hope they'll develop some options to tone it down.

Because they are in a space ship in a station in space and using the interface to the station, they don't want to see an outside of the game option from that menu, one that doesn't have an in-game narrative. If the station sold you the kits and paintjobs, that's different, but it takes to to a FD store which is an external website.

I can see why that matters. I get it that you cannot, but your take isn't the norm on this issue.

I don't think its all really about the button. It's more about the thought process of the people that put it there and it being a precursor of the direction the game is going
I can imagine the station adverts saying something like "Cobra kits for sale in the store" or something along those lines. The DLC offering has basically violated the 4th wall, and in the process is a constant reminder you're in a game. If the big blue triangles and circles with planet and station names on them aren't enough, maybe the blue store icon will be.

Livery is one thing, it could belong to the station, but since we can now change things mid flight, that's out the window too. So much for the counter-argument for faster ship transfer times. Why not just be suddenly flying your selected ship anywhere you are, why need a station to change anything? You could then buy modules and have them instantly, who cares about immersion. Immersion in cash, amirite?

So there is a blue button on the Station Services screen... In a few days it'll just be part of the wallpaper and unnoticed by me, a bit like the 'Press x to y' prompts that are on-screen when playing...

Yes, there is a change to the Station UI, but it makes no difference really, in the long run :)

If you want to smear the borders of cosmetics with that of functional modules, nobody can stop you. Just don't blame Frontier for something they haven't done yet nor did they have shown any signs for a future intent. Don't blame others for something that only exists in your imagination.

A cynic may wonder why being able to change livery on the fly has been introduced. Could it be something to do with trying to encourage those deep exploration folks to buy cosmetics with the great new ARX system

Well yeah thats what the whole thing is for. To more easily part you from your cash.
And fair enough.

But, please, not quite so obviously, FD!

Then like i said in another post, just pretend its comms to the local spray and paint shop in game ;)
