Patch Notes September Update - Patch 1

Ok, so I have had elite for only 3 weeks now, I know my opinion my not be invited, but here we go.

FDev you completely destroyed remote engineering for several days, as well as almost breaking regular engineering, making the progress on my builds grind to a halt. This is not game breaking, but it is frustrating, and prevented me from making progress. What's more fascinating is how a set of MAJOR GAME ALTERING BUGS managed to elude your testing, and were shipped with the latest major patch of your game. I'm no software dev, and I understand mistakes get made, but this is a very obvious and easy to replicate bug. Even so, once it was in, the servers should've been reverted while you guys bug squashed, I am clueless as to why this wasn't done.

It just seems like a lot of bad decisions were made, and I don't want to start with the whole ARX drama. However, I will say I was on the fence about buying skins; a couple of them look nice. Thank you for making the decision for me, I will never make a microtransaction in your game, given the quality of care displayed for your customers.

This whole update seems rushed, and it's apparent now that delay is better than a buggy release.

In the couple weeks before this, I though the FDev meme was just that, a meme. Turns out those people are right, this update was a bad joke.

If you want to respond, @ me, I am open to discussion if you have a disagreement.

Not service industry though, there's an end product produced. If the devs get too much abuse they may say "sod it, not worth the hassle" and close the game down as well. Middle ground is the best route, no lavish praise, no insults.

Abuse and insults are at most a waste of someone's time to post. Being a jerk never got anyone anywhere, but it's tough to say that there's praise deserved at the moment.

Instead folks could just keep pushing actual constructive criticism. Like advocating for beta servers, or more QA time before releasing a patch, maybe some additional transparency. A lot of the bugs in this update could've been caught with a few hours of play testing QA doing what I consider relatively common tasks like engineering and mining. You don't even have to pay people to do that, I guarantee FDev could find a couple dozen willing testers in the community to help identify at least obvious bugs. Then you're left with obscure/non-obvious bugs in the production patch when it's released, and let's be honest, everyone expects those with a modern software release.

I don't hate you. I'm afraid the one who's hating you the most is yourself. The rest are all symptoms that will very soon vanish once you've realized and fixed it.

Someone with genuine mental illness is very unlikely to have their symptoms simply vanish if they "fix it." They need to seek out professional help.

I think it is very important that FD hears the 'new player response', and this is exactly what I'd expect it to be. Its even worse when you go into the game via the 'new update steam sale', which will have you start a borderline-broken game as first experience.

Thanks, Will & team for the fix.

Commanders: this is just a game. Back in '84 we had a game, no updates, no new content, anything but the game and we were ok with that.

Do not worry, things are getting fixed, but it takes time. The hate only causes more mistakes if we make fdev hurry. That's human. So, ease up on them a little, we will get back our game...

We had real development.. .Keep saying FD is eating on the previous elite game fame

I agree. I read somewhere that there are 2,777 reported bugs within Elite. I would far sooner these were addressed that any more updates like fleet carriers, I would far sooner more engaging gameplay be added, more puzzles to solve. I did the Guardian thing recently [yeah i know, bit late on that one :) ] and used the internet to find a map to help me but I now so wished I hadn't and had puzzled it out for myself. Would have taking longer but would have enjoyed it more.
There’s still puzzles that are already there on that front.

Do the Ram Tah missions if you haven’t already (get them from Meene). Pay attention to the logs. Go visit The Cete. Revisit the sites, look (and listen) closer. If you manage to solve anything, let us know!

Good luck, cmdr! o7 😀

Yes but they are responsible for the poopoo they are continuously delivering no ? It is a job for them so responsibility.

Of course they are responsible, that's what this patch is all about is it not, if they didn't give a toss they'd leave the game as is. They are not doing that.

There's a LOT worse developers out there.

How can I put it gently? The last few times I went out on my own I got chased down by thugs who had no prior contact with Me, because as my therapist says, it seems people can tell I'm on the spectrum.

Literally chased. People were intruding on my personal space for no reason other than to torment me.

I am dead serious. I'm being literal when I say everything goes wrong. I haven't been able to leave my own home for a year without supervision because the FACTS are that when I do, I get mugged. That is why I hate myself. Because people DO hate me.

It leads me to get an unhealthy attachment to video games, game breaks, and I have a bloody meltdown.

The game is not even in maintenance, look at the amount of bugs not solved..

To be honest, I don't see worse renowned developers...at least regarding ED development. Funny it is ok for a game but not funny for other stuff.

FD I feel your pain from the simple amount of coding I have done in the past on the Apple II and the Amiga (yes I am an old fart)

But I would like to say to everyone else (as mentioned earlier) why would FD put bugs in on purpose? They want to make this game work more than you can imagine as it is their passion and not to mention that the better it gets the more sales they make. I only started playing about 2 months ago and I did play the original way back in the late 80's for a short while.

I have to say that this game is ground breaking and even though I have personally encountered a few frustrating issues, abusing the devs is completely counter productive as I can only imagine the amount of lost sleep and frustration on their behalf to try and fix issues.

So my advice to all those people that have probably never de-bugged a program in their life, keep giving these guys feedback but also keep it positive and friendly because the abuse and negativity they get is soul destroying.

Have a nice day everyone :)

I do not want to blame you ... however if lessons learned should be a part of your company philosophy. So please bear this in mind whilst reading my post to the end.

It is bad if a good game receives updates which mainly should benefit newbies but dissapoints all players with tons of Bugs. But the worst is to not keep the gamers informed about the current progress and ETA and instead publishing goodies with low value just to remind and celebrate the 35th game anniversairy (seen on twitter).

If all bugs are fixes you should think about how to make all gamers forgive and forget and get back the trust you need for continuous support e.c. giving away free arx?! Especially in front of the background of the announced December Update this would be highly appreciated.

IRL I don't talk to anyone.

I play games to numb the crippling depression. So yeah, I get upset when they break this bad.

Have you given NMS a look? It's a very different game to ED - much much less flight oriented - but it's quite a chilled experience, with plenty of eye-candy!
