[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

However, I do not like all this chest puffing from the "creators" or "influencers." Admittedly, I do watch their videos and find them enjoyable, but that does not give them power over Fdev. I do not think that anyone is in the position to make demands of Fdev.

I don’t see this as making demands. This is a good faith attempt by prominent members of the community to express their feeling about the current state of the game out of love for the game. I truly believe these folks want what’s best for Frontier and for Elite and I totally agree with them.

This game is truly great, but it is also held back by several horribly broken and half-finished game mechanics and long standing bugs. Things could be a whole lot better than they are and pointing that out is a good thing!

It can't be from the Community, they didn't ask me

Do I agree with points? Yes.
With all of them? No.
Do I like it people ask for change? Yes (I myself changed the store button from blue to orange... ok perhaps I exxagerate a bit 😂)
Do I have a point? No, but I wanted to add to this thread, because the Community

Fdev gives us free stuff for three years now. We're entitled to exactly nothing and should be more thankful.

I paid full price the base game and horizons, and I'm pretty sure I spent as much again since on various paint-job and ship kits. All of these things make be a past, current, and probably, future customer of Frontier Development. I'm at least entitled to an opinion on the value of their customer communications policy.

I'm always immediately suspicious of anyone pretending to be the voice for an entire community. Especially when, as a member of that community, I know damn well many people don't agree.

Especially given the context - this is the same source that called EXPLOITATIVE at the introduction of a virtual currency that had existed on consoles for years. It's an attempt to tap into outrage for attention.

Everyone wants to be the most outraged because that's where attention will go - somebody with some constructive feedback won't get a 20+ page thread, but a thread of maniacs accusing FDev of trying to FORCE innocent players to buy their EVIL ARX will go on and on.

These videos are like a forum post, but you can't easily respond to anything in it directly, and it has ads. It's a forum post with ads.

It was a good letter, but we've had similar before.

FD have responded via Zac. Both sides have had their say. Whether anything will change it remains to be seen, but i wouldn't expect much. Zac basically says they are doing their best and are generally happy with how they do things.

So, things will continue for another year or so, until the next major upset, then there will be another open letter, and so on.

As ever folks, we are all passionate about ED and the community around it. But, can we please remember to keep it civil and discuss the post and not the poster?

I've noticed a couple of more personal comments sneaking in and I'd prefer it of things were kept civil.

Thanks all.

it's an asymmetric relationship, but frontier has been pretty keen to promote their particular garden of snowflakes for a reason. their reaction to such a stunt was indeed interesting. zach's immediate personal intervention seems to show they do have some sort of power. even if the only real message in that intervention is, precisely, an attempt to deny it :ROFLMAO:

Pretty sure that's the last posting from Zac we'll see on this thread, then. What were we asking for? Oh, yeah, better communications from FDev.

Not hard to see why the situation is like it is.
Self fulfilling prophecies for the win!!1 It's also extremely easy to see why it is never gonna change 😂
Time for a conclusion bud!

Reddit thread since I can't find forums version : https://redd.it/dbbxeb

I dont know if its on the list but please Yamiks talk about the FSS and the bad lighting effects. The day the FSS dropped my fun and so my gameplay ended. Thats not fair... If you could even get those issues, particularly getting an alternative to the FSS (ADS back) even back on the agenda and being talked about you would have my gratitude.

Seriously, most of the major bugs have already been fixed, and they were fixed quite quickly. I have no idea what people are complaining about, let alone trying to staple a 95 thesis on frontiers door, or sending FDev a declaration of independence.

Yes, there were bugs. Yes please do report any bugs you might find to FDev in a calm, consice manner. Yes there still are some bugs. They are being worked on. They are being fixed. Relax. Its gonna be ok. We are going to make it.

Would definitely prefer a first-person, action exploration piloting my ships alternative or complimentary feature, even if it was less efficient, but more reasonible than just using parallax or similar.

Remarkable how this Forum turns full circle ... it looks as if Open Letters will now be popular, as this one (at least) achieved a response :D

It's a pity Yamiks complicated the issue because he is smarting at no response to his 100 questions, which I believe FD was right not to get involved with. It would have initiated a ding-dong of supplemental questions and answers, which I suspect, Yamiks wanted. It would have made good forum fodder, but would not have advanced the game progress.

He is right that the September release was poorly executed. The problem FD undoubtedly had was - do we release it like this and suffer utter contempt, or do we suffer utter contempt for delaying it until October ? And the importance of Beta tests. That is what the thrust of the message should have concentrated on.

Keep it simple, or you invite a long, convoluted response ........... which is precisely what happened.
