CMDRs now playing for ARX

It will be strange for some deep space explorers coming back to sell data in weekly allotments to not lose out on arx, given the weekly arx cap, while they've perhaps been out enjoying the game for months at a time already.

Ironically, it can kind of disincentive playing the game for the sake of playing the game.
Same could be said for BGS data - 10M / day for that is usually the recommendation. I guess they could fix that by dropping the payout to 1 ARX per 10 Mill - then you can sell everything in 1 week ;)

But this stupid. You get a reasonable amount of ARX for jump-honk-scoop now. And good amounts for other things.
Just ignore the "loss" of 24p. Because I already see the threads... "I was ganked in Deciat with a billion in explo data, support I demand my ARX being reinstalled, so that I can get ganked every week again" sigh

Yep... It's an... interesting dichotomy, one I wasn't really anticipating for the game previously.

When I was hauling poopie, and then after that polymers, and making lots of money I got Arx in a flash.

When I have been doing missions and just tooling around normally, I haven't been getting hardly any. I'm not too concerned because I understand what in-game currencies are, what they're for, and what freebie drip itself is for the way it works.

but, not so good

carrying poop 300ly away
Hey I liked carrying poop from Sothis and Ceos. It wasn’t a total gold rush exploit, carried some danger (especially when said poop hauling was given as smuggling missions), and it was my first real taste of big money. Well big money in those days. Now it’s chump change. 💩

I play for stories, but stories rarely ever happen...
If you're not too worried about progression and the meta, or perhaps even regardless of it, there is still some fun emergent game-play that can be had here and there on occasion. In a way that's sort of like an interactive story you help make for yourself.

Even if they are not worth much in real word money, there is a psychological effect to it. People like to feel validated. Therefore it might be nice if there wasn't some activities that are not rewarded much at all, but it's not a huge issue. I expect most people will get over it sooner or later.

That's a good point. With the current ARXs some significant number of people seem to feel not validated but invalidated. I think the best would be to remove ARX to be earned through playing the game, only microtransactions with real money.

Yes OP, it does seem wrong to play for ARX.

However we the players didn't introduce ARX, or ask for it to be introduced. That decision was FD's and purely for their own financial benefit, nothing wrong with that they are a commercial organisation trying to make a profit.

I think how that was handled, how we earn ARX in game and how 'in your face' the monetisation appears is up for discussion.

FD were supposed to have released more info on how we can earn ARX in game but for whatever reason that info has been withheld.

Other games use devises like daily missions (dailies), weekly missions (weeklies), and end game content like high level dungeons/instances that take a team of veteran players with plenty of coordination to complete and receive the high end rewards, thus keeping players engaged long term....or not.

I'm not sure any of those really fits into ED, I'd also argue that ARX doesn't really fit either but I'm sure in time I will get used to it.

Yes, thats (the bold parts) what I am thinking and what I want to discuss. Thank you for being more clear.

The current amounts of ARXs earnable through game play is somehow a joke (for those who go for it), but earning ARXs by participating e.g. in the Interstellar Initiatives could be something.

And I understand that ARX is something the different platforms (PC,PS4,...) now have in common, instead of the separate things before, where PS4 have something (Points? What was the name?) and others don't. Maybe a sign for future cross play, at least a necessary preparation.

2 weeks in I'm at 280, im certainly not
I havent changed what I'm doing, I'm just letting it total up in the background

Some missions and activities don't pay at all. Can't blaze my own trail by being locked into a single type of game play just to make arx. So arx is of no interest to me now. It was a good idea, but useless for me until FDev get some balance to it.
Did you play after the newest patches? I'm genuinely curious what you do to not earn Arx.
Exploration pays Arx, Trading does, mission running does, engineering does, building ships does, using mat traders does, combat does a lot, even PvP gives Arx now... 🤷‍♂️

I have capped the Arx limit on my main account since introduction by, at the latest, each Friday... Just playing normally, so can't see me forsaking play because I've capped out!
My alt makes random amounts depending on what has been done and has only capped out once so far.

Does it bother me? Not in the least, about the only nice thing is that at some point I'll visit the store without spending a penny of my own money - very nice :)

I did some data scan missions, but it was before the recent update, and didn't get any. I'm not sure trading missions give anything. The "exploration" of flying back and forth does though. That's on my alt-account. I've been doing trading mission for a week now and have about 100 arx.

On my primary account, I have a lot of exploration data to turn in, and every 40,000,000 credit corresponds to 400 arx, so I have that ship parked, and dump only enough each week to reach the max.

edit:

Checked my logs. Done 120 trading missions in two weeks and that has given me 150 arx, most of the arx from all the jumps though.

Yeah. That's a problem. With that in mind, arx shouldn't be connected to credits or payouts at all, but rather just on activity, hours spent, number of missions, number of kills, etc, but not cashing in explo-data, like I'm currently doing in allotments in my primary account, it's going to take a couple of weeks to clear my list. I'm glad having an alt-account to play on right now. :D

Haven't done exploration in a while, but by the sound of it, ARX rewards shouldn't be about cashing in data at all, except when you get the first discovery of something maybe. Mostly it should be about the actions, like 1 for every X number of FSS scans, for each mapped body and so on.

I already hit the weekly cap. Combat mostly.
