When ships turn bad :D

For me, I have no interest in the Challenger/Chieftain/Crusader group simply because I can't work out what they could do the one of my existing ships can do now.

Well, that was exactly what i thought for quite some time.
Then their design started to grow on me. Then I got them and now i'm hooked.
Really nice combat ships and the Chief might also do as a decent out-of-the-box explorer

Okay, to expand this great discussion a bit further:

Is there a ship that you would not even contemplate purchasing? No matter how good others praise it, how seemingly perfect it is, you just would not/can not bring yourself to drop a few credits for it?

T6 and T7. And Keelback.
As a beginner i simply could not see their utility

My ship progression was Sidewinder - Cobra Mk3 - AspX - Krait Mk2 - Python.
I always avoided all combat in my starter months. The goal were the credits.
So I made nice cash doing supply delivery missions in C3, enough to skip T6 and go directly for AspX.
Then again i made nice cash doing the same supply/delivery mission in AspX untill i could afford a Krait Mk2.
Never felt the need to fly a T7 and to give up the productive missions to/from outposts.

This might change and i might still get them - i kinda have hoarding issues :)

I actually don't mind off centre seats but..

Dang right, that lateral bar positioned perfectly to obstruct range to target is the worst griefer in the game.

THIS ^^^ is the truth.

As for OP for me it's the DBX.
I bought one keen to experience the manoeuvrable and fast ship other cmdrs had raved about, only to realise it was nothing of the sort. Even remember checking I hadn't accidently left the E grade thrusters on.

Sold it and got straight back into the DBS. Now that is a manoeuvrable and fast ship :)

On paper the FAS is my perfect ship, in reality I can't bring myself to fly a box with fins.
The Chieftain has covered the box shaped hole.

I know it is 'cheating' but my Alt account will never, ever, buy an Anaconda.... (I did with my Main and it is the least loved ship I have) Having read so many 'rave reviews - best ship in the game' the disappointment of buying, engineering and flying one would only be matched by a toddler dropping its unlicked ice-cream...

I would actually rather watch this toddler drop the ice cream, unlicked, over and over again with bonus footage of his/her silent tears, than have to go through the disappointment of the anaconda again.

Quite a few winged bricks in ED. Too many for comfort. You would think the semblance of aerodynamics would at least matter to some extent.
Outside of the federal brick ships I actually quite like that, personal taste an all. eg. I really like the character of the Ts, I'm even a bit of a fan of Asp (lame duck) Scout's looks.
My main concern is usually how they fly and what I can do with them.

You aren't alone, I will (at least in my current thinking) never own a Conda. Only a couple of days ago I decided to get a large ship for haulage, settled on either the T9, T10 and the Conda - well they are the three I theory mapped on Coriolis. Funny enough, the Conda never made it past that stage, I just don't like it and I really can't explain why. Well I might be able to explain it - for so long the Conda was touted as the ultimate END GAME, basically if you had it you had WON ELITE. What utter biowaste lol.

Bit like me love/hate affair with the Python. For the longest time I was being to think I was the only player not to own a Python, everyone was raving about them. Eventually I caved in and got one. Yes it is brilliant at running missions but I really don't enjoy flying it. To me it is like a work vehicle, great at what it is designed for but no damn fun any other time.

Yep this. Both are very potent tools, and stats wise arguably the best in their class, but they simply "feel" worse.

Currently grinding the rank to get the corvette - already ground the rank for the cutter but I do not fancy it.

Not really interested in the Anaconda - the jump range is interesting but apparently it is a dog to fly so exploration is done in the AspX.

Currently grinding in my python - have pretty much maxed the engineering and it handles and flies pretty well.

Also have a t9 - which was an absolute dog until the drives got upgraded - it is still a dog but a better one and it is just a cargo hauler so what was i expecting!

At some point I will probably try all the ships I guess..

Both my accounts do mining in a Python, they are very well suited (192 cargo) for a 'big' mining session, but the Python is boring - I like the 'Transit Van' analogy - perfect for the job, but not something you'd deliberately choose as a 'daily drive' - with apologies to those who still think Python's are the best thing since sliced bread :)

Don't forget, sliced bread is great, but it gets boring if that is all you eat :D

I did think about making a Python miner, one that does both surface and core mining but decided to use the Krait Mk II instead. Found it perfect for MY NEEDS, the 128 Cargo (plus 8 more in the refinery) is just about the perfect quantity for me as by the time I am getting close to maxing out is about the time I am beginning to get bored mining lol

The Keelback is also on my list, although for very different reasons. I picked that one up when multi-crew came around. Wanted to use it as quick and cheap entry for the experience of having a friend in the SLF along. Then i had to find out that the ship at that time didn't have a second seat and it could not be used for this.

And while the turning thrusters look great, the ship neither had enough actual use nor was it enough fun to fly to keep it.

My other ship on the list is the T7. I used it for a short time to haul cargo. And decided that i never want to be inside that ship again. If money ever would be the limiting factor, i'd rather return to the T6.

And one ship i still have, but really don't know why: the Vulture. It is a potent combat ship for its price. But it just feels so boooooring to me. While it does a good job, it just doesn't have any personality. No fun.

I can mine for about 45 minutes before I start feeling like I might never play this again. although, I've only been able to get about 2 hours out of ED at all now before getting extremely bored lately.

That's kind of the problem with mining; if you want to avoid combat then you have to do the whole lot in one sitting.

I love the DBX, but it is feeling rather small these days. It's like the song Convoy "a dozen long-haired friends of Jesus in a Nisan Micro-bus." It can get you into the wilderness and keep you alive for months, but you'll never be able to stand up straight. I'm off to get a Guardian FSD booster. If I fit that and an AFMU, I won't have a cargo hold. I'm considering swapping it out for a Krait Mk II, which I currently use for mining and it's a lovely nimble beast, but then I lose 10ly of range.

The Cobra Mk III was my second ship. I haven't found anything that it's good at. Maybe a fighter? But not in a CZ without a lot of engineering that I haven't unlocked yet.

The Type-7 is rusting away in storage. I bought it for the cargo capacity but it's too much like having a day-job; no fun, just grind.
