[Video] Open letter from community to Elite Dangerous

I think there'll be a big cinematic reveal trailer
Frontier's cinematic "reveal" trailers are 99% Hollywood fiction, 1% actual gameplay. If Elite Dangerous was the game as portrayed in those cinematic trailers, everybody would be talking about it.

Maybe Braben missed his calling - he should have been a movie director instead of a software developer. His "movies" are pretty amazing, TBH!

But back on topic, I want to see actual gameplay footage, not some fantasized version of the game. According to the past trailers, we already have space legs and talking NPC crews. These trailers are very misleading..

Sure we talk about Braben and not that other space sim developer?

Did the OP change the title to "Open letter from community to Star Citizen" when I wasn't looking?

Nope.

But if you want to jump off the track, I'll be happy to post my modded Skyrim photos for everyone's viewing pleasure :D

I've seen this over and over again with countless games. People defend Frontier's "silence" as if it's some requirement of gaming companies to keep secrets, yet we have footage from Microsoft Flight Simulator, Death Stranding, Cyberpunk 2077, just to name a few, while Frontier can't even be bothered to tell us anything about next year's update except that it's a "New Era".

It's as if Frontier thinks they are Apple and that this game is the iPhone :p
Now watch the inevitable backlash when promised features and graphical downgrades happen.
FD already tried that route.

FD already trued that route.

I can't remember on any major backlash about ice planets or fleet carriers, maybe my memory fails me...

So you think a company with more resources, releasing an entirely new game, would have less material than a smaller developer releasing an expansion on an existing game?

Even resources aside, you think DLC is going to out-promote an entirely new release?

That's such an apples and oranges comparison, but you're wondering why the apples aren't making orange juice.

Interesting, back in cash-starved kickstarter period, David Braben himself had no issues of posting regular videos and gameplay stuff. Yes, now a wealthy man and running a big business, but by all accounts Elite should remain their most important IP.
Which brings me to the next point: the DLC you are referring to must be more like a relaunch of the game, and given the amount of work they need to do it may very well be a new game based on existing player progress... I mean, surely they want to reach a wider audience with the 'new era'.

Amen to that - seems a lot of people think it's their god given right to have games made they way they want them to run. some of the comments I have seen lately - maybe they need to read the EULA a bit more esp 4.3 and maybe 5.1 - suck it up guys it's a game .
No, the Uniform Commercial Code (US law). Section under "fraud".

True but it starts with wanting to do it no?
I think that if Fdev wanted to inform the players of what's coming they would be pefectly able to do so.
Do you think they would be more able to do so than a much, much larger company with many more resources? Because that was the context of my comment.

This is all about raising awareness, at the very least the game's current management mustn't be proud of it in front of David Braben, who otherwise appears to be completely disengaged.

I am afraid this goes beyond simple awareness raising. And that is part of the reason many patrons do not like this petition.

As you can see in the reddit thread some of the letter contributors may still be planning actions based on
timelines that we will be following closely for progress.

Please have your guess at what they may be planning in case said timelines are not met by FDEV.

At best it shows some of the letter contributors, like ObsidianAnt for example, signed something without full knowledge of what may be actually going on. At worst it means those contributors knew full well what could happen and just acquiesced.
