It is curious, before 3.3 I 'explored' and visited each body in each system I arrived in, even the icy ball ones... Since 3.3 I FSS every system, even the odd 100+ body ones, and fly the distance needed to bodies of interest, even those 500+KLs away. The only difference in play being that the FSS allows me to complete a system scan from one place and use my time mapping those bodies that interest me, knowing exactly what they are before setting off...
OK, someone looking for "sky blue pink, shot with a carrot gas giants in a binary eccentric orbit around a black hole with pink shading on the edges" (poetic licence - not in-game content) exclusively would glance fleetingly at the system reveal in the ADS and move on if all parameters were not satisfied... but, for me, the FSS/DSS combination has given me
more time to investigate things that interest me, rather than having to reveal each body in a system "just in case", add in the POI reveal and there is even more reason to visit bodies that, previously, may have been 'of no interest' as I had no wish to spend an indeterminate amount of time flying around a body at low 'altitude' in the off-chance of finding something interesting.
When the comment was made by the developers about the ADS not returning, which
should have laid it to rest (but, of course, hasn't!) with the playerbase, I considered the possibility that, with the POI reveal function of the new system, more may be planned for the player base to discover using the combination which would be impossible to find with the ADS...
...but then, I'm an optimist
