But there are pirates, which might "force" combat on you.No, the game is around combat, trading, mining and exploration.
My point is to always expect combat or be fine with a rebuy.Again, I agree with that. That's not the point you made.
The game world is indeed imagined as a violent dystopian future where the rule of law is a thin veneer over a core of barbarism. The preponderance of gameplay mechanics, rules and tools lean heavily to the use of violence as well, from a design standpoint. Of course the game can be played as a pacifist, but that assumes the player makes crafty use of the modes and removes themselves from 99.99% of all game content (exploring away from the bubble, preferably in a PG).Please also refer to my reply above. The whole game (world) and background story revolves around combat. The fact, that you can play this game without firing a single shot is not an argument.
Edit:
I don't know, why some of you ignore huge possibilities this game can improve upon, but instead break the issues down to just personal preference.
I can do this in 2 letters and a punctuation mark: "so?"I only have 2 word for this "The Gnosis".
No he doesn't, because they did exactly that.No he doesn't. Which is actually the main topic of this thread. 'Cause everyone switch to SOLO when there is a pirate/ganker in the same system.
Are you calling Dilbert a type 9?Ziggy is laughing at all you nuts from his shieldless, weaponless, perfectly safe Type-9![]()
Lets chalk the earlier disagreement up as miscommunication, and agree to that.My point is to always expect combat or be fine with a rebuy.
Indeed it does - and, of course, other players as they are also an optional extra in the game.ED provides you tools to avoid and evade combat. But either way Morbad's (and my) perspective is objectively right within the definition of a game.
Oh I thought you were here already... one year ago, the famous exploration expedition into the Cone Sector that turned into a thargoid fest...I can do this in 2 letters and a punctuation mark: "so?"
I am aware of the event. Does that one event make the game revolve around combat?Oh I thought you were here already... one year ago, the famous exploration expedition into the Cone Sector that turned into a thargoid fest...
Exploration ---> Combat
Oh I thought you were here already... one year ago, the famous exploration expedition into the Cone Sector that turned into a thargoid fest...
It shows that combat is all to common in the 'ol ED universe, and that just because you think you're safe you really aren'tI am aware of the event. Does that one event make the game revolve around combat?
Again, explain how the search for Raxxla revolves around combat.
edit: or in my case, explain how me ignoring 1% of the galaxy (the bubble) in favour of exploring 99% of the galaxy (not the bubble) still means my game revolves around combat.
I'm not arguing against: combat is common. It shows that combat is all to common in the 'ol ED universe
You're arguing that combat and violence don't form the lynchpins of the ED game ethos simply because you can pop into solo and fly away from the bubble and all NPC's; you are wrong.I'm not arguing against: combat is common.
It definitely does, FDEV even used an Exploration event to introduce a new type of Combat scenario.I am aware of the event. Does that one event make the game revolve around combat?
No I wasn't. I never talked about ethos or violence. You're arguing that combat and violence don't form the lynchpins of the ED game ethos
And since you didn't provide any arguments, I can easily counter this with; I am right.you are wrong.
ED is more combat oriented than anything else. That is a different claim than: the game revolves around combat. It definitely does, FDEV even used an Exploration event to introduce a new type of Combat scenario.
It clearly demonstrated that FDEV was not prepared to develop an exploration content and they had to use the only resource they had (pew pew) as emergency exit.
ED is more oriented to Combat than anything else. Maybe in the future this will change, but at the moment it is what it is.
For more than a year I played avoiding all combat - and I was in the bubble most of the time. You're arguing that combat and violence don't form the lynchpins of the ED game ethos simply because you can pop into solo and fly away from the bubble and all NPC's; you are wrong.
Instead of ducking and diving behind the goalposts, perhaps you should explain what you'r position is relevant to post #590 where you attempted to debunk Birdy's assertion that the game revolves around violence, because I'd say I've summed it up pretty succinctly. No I wasn't. I never talked about ethos or violence.
Faceplanting a 10G planet or getting microweaved by a neutron is pretty violent and very much a part of my game.
And since you didn't provide any arguments, I can easily counter this with; I am right.
Just because you opt out of combat scenarios doesn't mean that the world at it's core isn't a violent place. As if you were never interdicted by pirates while making your climb to Elite in trade, for instance? For more than a year I played avoiding all combat - and I was in the bubble most of the time.
When you can do that in a game, it means it doesn't revolve around that gameplay element.
The only thing Elite is based around is flying a spaceship.
And since you didn't provide any arguments, I can easily counter this with; I am right.
Birdy "The whole game (world) and background story revolves around combat.
