Do "purple-haired heroes" scare everyone into Solo?

Birdy "The whole game (world) and background story revolves around combat. "
and background story revolves around combat
revolves around combat
combat
Lolol. As I suspected: you have only nonsense to offer. Another point I should note: I was responding to Birdy, not you, you chose to engage my point where I agreed with him and all you are doing here is telling me I'm wrong without offering any substance. You're making a weak argument my old friend.

Remember Paolini!

And there are explorers who might "force" jumping half way across the galaxy on griefers. #DistantGanks

Therefore, I propose that this game revolves around EXPLORATION :D
That was delicious irony wasn't it? :)

And a case in point. Those who stayed out of open. Didn't see any combat. The 4 CMDRs who were killed in the PG had their accounts restored by FDev, because they agree, the game doesn't revolve around combat :)

That's me my old friend. You chose to engage me. I deliberately chose not to engage you. Not when you tried to lure me with your "missing 99.99% of the game" needle, I just chuckled. Only when you quoted me I responded.

Remember half an hour ago! :)

You're not going to explain how the search for Raxxla revolves around combat are you? :(

The difference is that seaching for Raxxla is imagined gameplay. There is no Raxxla. If there is to be a Raxxla, it will popup whenever FD decides it should be "found" and flips a switch. Do you believe the Thargoid bases, crash sites etc were there to be found from the start while people were deciphering audio signals and whatnot?

I have nothing against imagined gameplay, in fact, most of my ED gameplay is also imagined as I care very little for most of the available "real" gameplay. But imagined gameplay doesn't weight much on a discussion about what the game revolves around.

It does for those playing that game.

My point is, you decide what your game revolves around.

Just because you opt out of combat scenarios doesn't mean that the world at it's core isn't a violent place. As if you were never interdicted by pirates while making your climb to Elite in trade, for instance?
Those are two separate things: whether game world is or isn't a violent place and gameplay element a game is based around.
If you can avoid it, it means game doesn't revolve around that part.

For example (I know I will sound like old geezer, but I just can't recall anything else right now...) Old Wing Commander series. this was game based around combat. You simply couldn't avoid it, because combat was the game.

Elite gives you options and combat is just one of them.

As for climb to Elite in trade - yes I was interdicted. But I'm not sure if being unarmed trader getting shot at technically counts as "combat".
But you can avoid interdictions, drop cargo to avoid being shot by a pirate, escape, etc.
You can also not become Elite in trade. Game doesn't require you to do that.

Blasphemy! Burn the unbeliever...with engineered heat lasers obviously.

OP - OD - I remember way back when, when you asked a question, not sure what happened in the middle as skipped it but my answer is I have made a decision to only play Open for CG & PP when I do it, I may skip in first in solo and map everything, sell that and save it, and then switch to open for the actual CG. That's my choice, I have the funds, I don't judge anyone who switches to PG or Solo especially to help out a fellow Cmdr or Player Faction.

atm I'm in an exploration PG so horses for courses

A better community in game will attract more players than just another PVP game where a few always dominate and its not much fun, griefers and cheaters gave it a bad name so blame them not fdev or mechanics or gameplay, I do

Indeed it does - and, of course, other players as they are also an optional extra in the game.

Ones opinion is not necessarily "objectively right". This game offers many options to its players.
We can objectively say, that player ships can be a multitude stronger than the regular NPC ships are. This is what Morbad and me pointed out.

@all the peaceful CMDRs: Let's not split hairs over semantics. As playing in open shows, you can be shot at anywhere anytime.

I get that people have different opinions on how the game should be played. Best thing about Elite, really, is you can kinda just do whatever you want and still be playing the game ‘right’.

Disappearing into the black for months at a time. Blowing things up, NPCs or players. Hauling tens of millions worth of cargo with no defenses whatsoever. They are all technically ‘right’.

That said, there are better ways to do some things, and that is a simple fact.

Most people would recommend a high jump range for exploration, but you don’t have to have one (although it’s not a bad idea).

Many would suggest a combat focused ship for bounty hunting or PvP, but you don’t have to have one. You wanna strap some rail guns on a T6? Go for it. Not the best choice, but that’s just it. You get to choose. (Of course there are better options and strategies.)

You’d rather risk a hold full of opals in a shieldless, lightly armored ship? Who am I to stop you? At the end of the day, that’s your decision to make. All I can do is offer advice.

There’s no true ‘right’ way, but there certainly more effective ways to do some things.
