Do "purple-haired heroes" scare everyone into Solo?

Well now we have a proper combat CG, so I'll be interested to see how this feels in Open. My big disadvantage right now is that I only have maybe six rebuys worth of credits for my Vulture, so I may be limited in my participation at this CG unless I take some time to make some credits on the side.

Every new pilot is given the Elite rating of Harmless, and from that point on, if they want to, they can climb the ranks of the Elite ladder through prowess at Combat. The Elite rating is much, much more than just a badge of honour, however. it shows the world that you are more than just a Combateer, and can also earn you privileges at some of the most famous hotels, inns and grocery stores around the world.
Elite First Encounters manual, Braben, 1995.

Kinda not overemphasizing combat aspect of the game, but does give a great incentive to do so.

Yup - back when the game only had a single Elite Rank based on combat.

Things change.

Hey, we finally got a combat CG!!! Imagine my shock when I completed three combat zone runs without any player opposition in the zone itself. The purple-haired heroes are in the system, in force, sitting in supercruise and the station, but not at the CZ (at least not when and where I was). Odd, that.

Really, you would think they'd get bored.

purple-haired heroes
My lyrical association disorder finally gets the better of me.

There's room at the top they are telling you still
But first you must learn how to smile as you kill
If you want to be like the folks on the hill
A purple-haired hero is something to be

They are blockading the players returning with their combat bonds...

That's my thinking. I got interdicted by one guy, but this time I was in my combat Vulture, so I was easily able to wake out before he could even get my shields down. Now if you're looking for a fight, go to the CZ. You can interdict CMDRs anywhere, so why bother doing the same-old, same-old at a CG that actually promotes PvP?

Well, that's imaginative.... Sounds like any other CG. They too scared to fight in a CZ where the odds might be even?

I guess I can't blame Frontier anymore for not providing PvP-friendly CGs. Purples will purple! 🤷

I have always wondered, when reading about these 'blockades', why - if these are 'dedicated' PvP'ers - they are not busy fighting each other instead of just 'hanging out' and waiting for some much weaker 'opposition' - it is almost as if the concept of PvP in the way it is alluded to by said players doesn't include 'capable' opposition, odd!

I marked the important word, some people in this thread dismissed in their argumentation.
