The only bug I have personally experienced is that the contents of my codex appear to have disappeared. Since I didn't know it was there to begin with, I am only slightly disappointed and can now look forward to earning Arx the next time I come across a class O or B star. I did avoid mining until the relevant patch but I have been out since and I didn't encounter any problems. I understand people are still seeing the coloured snake crashes, but not me.
Most of the serious bugs we see are relatively rare. That's how they slip past the QA testers. But the only people who talk about it are the ones who have it and so it appears that there's a huge problem. Of course it is a huge problem for Frontier, and more so for the few that have their games ruined, but not for the average player.
If a bug is rare then it is the very devil to find and fix. If you can't recreate it in the lab, then you can't do any testing to trace it and you can never be sure you have fixed it. So these elusive bugs tend to hang around for longer than others that affect everybody.
For instance, if a particular graphical bug only manifests if you have a particular graphics card and have FSS'd at least one body but not the whole system, then your equipment and your play-style will mean that you see it all the time. Other players with different hardware or different styles of play will never see it. And until the developers gain enough information that they can tie it down to that particular combination, they will not be able to fix it.
