ANNOUNCEMENT Community Update (22/10)

The only bug I have personally experienced is that the contents of my codex appear to have disappeared. Since I didn't know it was there to begin with, I am only slightly disappointed and can now look forward to earning Arx the next time I come across a class O or B star. I did avoid mining until the relevant patch but I have been out since and I didn't encounter any problems. I understand people are still seeing the coloured snake crashes, but not me.

Most of the serious bugs we see are relatively rare. That's how they slip past the QA testers. But the only people who talk about it are the ones who have it and so it appears that there's a huge problem. Of course it is a huge problem for Frontier, and more so for the few that have their games ruined, but not for the average player.

If a bug is rare then it is the very devil to find and fix. If you can't recreate it in the lab, then you can't do any testing to trace it and you can never be sure you have fixed it. So these elusive bugs tend to hang around for longer than others that affect everybody.

For instance, if a particular graphical bug only manifests if you have a particular graphics card and have FSS'd at least one body but not the whole system, then your equipment and your play-style will mean that you see it all the time. Other players with different hardware or different styles of play will never see it. And until the developers gain enough information that they can tie it down to that particular combination, they will not be able to fix it.

Thank you. That's all I wanted to know. I wasn't going to trawl through the Reported Issues myself to find out what bugs the announcement is referring to; I'm not responsible for fixing them so there would have been no point.

If you aren't completely new to video games I am sure you'll understand that delays sometimes happen. So before anyone calls them liars (which already happens regularly in this thread despite the careful wording) they aren't making any promises.

"Careful wording"? I've seen a few people say it rather outright in the thread so far, because they don't understand the difference between "willful lying" and concepts such as, "we realize we made mistakes, and we need to fix them."

The issue at hand is that delays are happening all the time. This year's fleet carrier delay has been brought to you by ARX, buy today!

Except the amount of effort/coding involved in porting over the consoles' "Frontier Points" system and renaming it all to Arx is likely quiet trivial compared to the logistics of adding carriers to the game.

I'm all for calling a company out for actual bad decisions (see my past posts about their lack of communication as to why they canceled the Mac client) but I'd rather it be a solid reason to point a finger and not a false equivalency

If a bug ridden mess manages to be the biggest selling game of all FDEV franchises (including JWE so far) to date and it manages to continue growing the player base with the best concurrency record in the last 3 years this past December/January then please by all means bring on a few more of these bug ridden messes!

being fair ,if you think that there are players who have up to 3 or 4 different accounts, the player base is not very impressive, there are only many accounts, no players

keep hearing the same lame escuses this is getting really old! but hey no matter how many successful times you 'handle' us players the truth is this is still something that only works\recognises\helps\and is fun for your lil' private groups! truth is single players and small groups are ignored and handled in this "we understand and we're sorry" loop over and over! most good people left some are slowy giving up on the game(because some feathures arent working properly)!a game you still call a simulator...with alll the critical things you should consider adding to make this anythign close to a simulator(like realistic phisics laws, astrobodies, able to land on atmospheric worlds already, ETC) youre adding useless timewasting content that only worsens the bad bugs and rng conditions that are NOT fixed\worked in the game yet.. but off course these must only happen to some players because i've never seen any bugs or any of the repetitive crashes that i have on your damn vanity projects i mean livestreams! then again im a ps4 player so yeah - destined for the burnt bottom piece of the metaphorical cake in this company - but yeah thank you sooooooo much for your efforts frontier!

yeah only because its the best looking space theme game out on the ps4 (ps4 themed opinion lol) but the fact they dont give a crap about players outside frontiers private secret player group, i believe it will be easly outdone and replaced by something else! i mean if i can imagine and structurise a superior game its only a matter of time until others with the power of funding come up with somethign that will put elite dangerous in the same section as athem, or ty old glitchy games peolpe cant wait to replace :3

And how can you know that? In this forum I know half a hundred that has more than one account
And how can you know that there are? Even if half the people in this forum have multiple accounts, that's a small percentage overall, and would make sense anyway because more avid gamers would be more likely to engage in the forum.

In any case, YOU made the inference that the number of multi-account players is large enough to affect the numbers. You made the claim, where are your figures? I refer you to my forum signature.

to each site that I talk about elite, each player seems to have more than one account, It only makes you think, that and that the game is not so populated and you can see.

that could give you an idea that the player base is just half ,don't have to eat your head a lot.
Then there is the fact that frontier relented due to a request made by a few hundred players, maybe thousands, but very few if we compare it with that "supposed" player base

But that's still no excuse for calling anyone 'a complete idiot'. That is archaic, it's abusive, it's offensive to the brain injured and the profoundly mentally and those who care for them

The profoundly mentally aren't going to be offended by a statement they can neither read nor comprehend.

I do feel that someone who has played the game for any length of time would have to be intellectually disabled in some appreciable manner to not notice at least one aspect of the game that that appeared to be behaving contrary to design.

and it's speech crime.

Better call 911/999/112. There's a speech criminal on the lose!

Must be playing a different game to me, never had an issue that has caused me to have to relog, the Sept update never caused me an issue but that may because I am lucky/special.

Many of the bugs I'm referring to have been around quite a bit longer than that; including that particular menu issue, which they have supposedly fixed before. The September update, like most prior updates, just added a few more than it fixed.

If a bug is rare then it is the very devil to find and fix. If you can't recreate it in the lab, then you can't do any testing to trace it and you can never be sure you have fixed it. So these elusive bugs tend to hang around for longer than others that affect everybody.

I can think of several bugs that are essentially 100% reproducible, some of which have been marked as fixed in the issue tracker and patch notes, that still exist.

The overwhelming majority of the players of every game ever made never make it to the forum, or fan sites, or reddit. The ones that do are the ones more focused on and more into the game. If I go to car shows, I'm going to meet an awful lot of hot-rod enthusiasts. That doesn't mean there's a large percentage of the population that likes fast cars, that just means I'm going to the places where they gather. Same with gaming sites of any kind. You're going to the places where game enthusiasts gather, so of course you're going to find a higher concentration of passionate gamers than there actually is among game players overall.

Edit: Not a few hundred. There were THREE THOUSAND signatures on that petition.

well, with those few data, it is more reasonable to think that there are "duplicate" players, than a real base

ED is such an amazing game, as is. But I am happy to wait longer for new content, so the Dev Team can refine, improve, optimize the ED experience. And I appreciate the team filling us in on present plans. Thanks for all we get to enjoy in ED, already, I'm looking forward to what will come in the years ahead! o7

"With those few data" means not enough data for even a ballpark accurate assessment of the situation. FDev has sold 3 million copies of the base game alone, last I checked.
