What is your Elite Quirk?

He said on the forums :)

I don't use the forums for finding out how to solve puzzles :) I generally don't tell people how to do stuff either, although I may describe how I do things if someone asks. otoh I'm not religious about it, I just think figuring stuff out is half the fun :) I don't have an Inara account, I don't use the shipyard apps, I don't use discord, I just play the game (generally in Open). It's rarer that I meet another player that uses 3rd party tools than not.

There is one notable, recent exception. A particularly bureaucratic player group seems unable to cope with the idea that players just do their interactions in the game so I deal with them via messages on this forum.

I'm always totally like "death star in range in T minus 15 seconds and counting" ...

EXACTLY !!!!

Before Gnosis jumps each Thursday I would never do anything like power off all my non essential modules, toggle pre-flight checks on OR change into a rather fetching fire-retardant flight suit!

OK fair enough, I would .. but at least I don't always carry at least two tons of non commercial RP cargo .. like spare water, O2 or geological equipment. Perish the thought.

In all fairness I used the flight check to learn my controls when I was still new.

Them paint jobs, wear em down, most of my ships are at zero...

Yea me too. At least for the ship I am using. Does anybody know if the paintjob is at 0, does the ship get any additional visible paint wearing?
When at station I also get my ship inside the hangar. Always.
I refuel at every jump, even if 1% fuel has been consumed.
I map every body. Yes OCD symptoms here..
I used to land my ship on planets while exploring but due to fear of getting stuck due to old bug when horizons 1st came out, I now (almost) always leave it in space.
If I leave it in space I usually switch off all subsystems and wait for that cracking sound of freezing and enjoy that eerie silence after..
Back in the old days when I was trying to become elite in trading, I always filled up my cargo hold in between missions in order to max out profit if possible.
Now that I am in guardian space, I am trying to completely fill up all the guardian related data & mats so that I don't have to worry about coming back again. This delta and epsilon data are proving veery veery hard to get though. Of course FD can change something during updates and completely destroy my efforts..
If I can't find a suitable name for my ship(s) I usually name them with their model and brand name (I think the game does this automatically??...)
I am probably missing a few more but these are probably the most important for me.

1) Once if I named a ship, I don't sell it, even it is just collecting dust.
2) Scooping with have the star on my side.
3) Approach stations in supercruise to have mail slot in front of me, turning from right to left.
4) My explorer ship have 0% paint.
5) All of my ship have G5 increased FSD engineering.
6) When I do bounty hunting, staying at CNB til I have shield, never more, when one of my crew is on board.

  • I have to have a paint job for every ship. Can't stand leaving them as stock (though just the Asp Scouts to do now 🎃 ).
  • Paint to be worn down on all vessels. Only gets a buff by having to go to the rebuy screen.
  • Docking always done by boosting towards the front of the station, from which ever angle, then FA Off, drift until just about aligned with the port, then boost to straighten out, FA On to regulate speed to 100 and then FAOff until on the pad.
  • Like most here: Never log off until SRV docked or ship in the hanger.
  • A decent screenshot, unique name and use for each ship on Inara (been buying too many lately - anticipation of FC did that to me). Stupid pride in fleet - every one has to have some sort of character.
  • "I always scoop with the star "above" me as I zoom around it to the next destination." yep, same here.
  • I used to always try approaching planets and stations in a spiral in SC 'cos space is curved, but I can't seem to recapture the knack for it since I've been flying K&M only.
  • Never discuss RL stuff in game. All text and chat is strictly ingame-concerns. Try as much as possible to avoid any meta-talk. Sometimes fail and always feels wrong.
  • When parked on planets always power down most of the systems non-essentials.
etc

(1) I do stow my ship into the hangar at the end of a session as well, it's like parking your car into the garage and closing the door for the night to me.

(2) Also if I'm in the black, I only log out when my ship is landed on a planet with everything turned off to conserve power and remain hidden.

(3) I always must be aligned with either the galactic plane or the system's orbital plane to maintain a sense of up/down and for navigational purposes such as north/south/east/west.

I have to honk when I enter a system ... even if I've been there before ... many times. I even honk every jump I jump into Shinrarta Dezhra.

I have to boost even when it does me no good. I boost as often as I can while waiting for the hyperspace jump countdown and I boost when descending to a planet in glide mode (even tho that glide speed is fixed at 2500).
I do exactly the same.after so many thousands upon thousands of scans I simply cannot help but honk the system. As for the boost I understand where that comes from.

Also another one; I must always scoop at every single star. Especially when out in the black, I never know if/when I'll run into a string of unscoopable stars, so I have to stay topped off at all times when possible

I do that too. I haven't run out of fuel since the first day of playing but I check my plotted route for scoopables even in the bubble too.

I dislike the insta-repairs, the 'holomes' and the lack of real death.
If a ship gets damaged, I'll either keep it damaged, or put it in for repairs & leave it for a day, & take a different ship out.
Instead of a magically reincarnating commander, I have a 'gang' of 9 characters, with a ship each, and if a ship gets blown up, the commander will be dead, and I'll generate a new holome commander, complete with mini back story.
I also like to imagine that 30km/s is the max speed things travel in systems, and the supercruise (above 30km/s) is actually a sort of cryogenic susspension, where you effectively 'sleep' until you get there.
I do need to ditch that theory occasionally though, when a destination is 100kls away.
I also like to fly FA off, even if you have to land really slowly. Slightly awkward on a game-pad, but I'm getting better. Still can't land high G planet bases with FA off though.

  • Must complete missions before signing off.
  • Always boost out of the stations.
  • Never sell engineered modules (Which is why I have a lot of Anaconda's for module storage).
  • Engineer everything to the max/min.
  • All non-storage accounts must be triples.
  • NPC's scratching my paint must die.
  • All crew must be hired as Harmless and brought to Elite.
  • Make a note of all CNB's.
  • Take pretty pictures when I see one.
  • Fly between close stars when exploring.
  • Only use role specific builds for the job at hand.
  • Also play with clothes on.

In a typical trip to a system, I'll do a few assassination missions and then go turn in missions or sell cargo. Even if that just means picking up some scrap or biowaste. I try not to take a trip to a system without having multiple objectives and always end with docking so I can turn in any bounties. But if someone asks me to turn in the mission more quickly, I'll stop everything for them. Doesn't matter if it's a worthless 10k bonus. My employer asked me to do it and I'm going to try.

When I kill my assassination target, I'll manually scoop if I feel I did a poor job. If I did a good job (didn't lose a ring, hit most of my shots, etc), I'll reward myself and use my collector limpets.

I try to hit a rail shot right as a ship explodes. It's an awesome sound when the timing is just right.

I try to request docking within 7-7.5km. My mini game: Try to dock within 30 seconds without taking any shield damage.

I scoop with the star to my left. Anything else feels weird.

I weave between the orbit lines.
