Frontier Trading Statement & Roadmap Update: Elite Dangerous' next paid-for release targeted for launch at the end of 2020

That was postponed because of the Open Letter (at least the last time). So it's actually Yamiks, OA etc who are behind that one - fdev were just doing as the influencers demanded :)
I really hope (and doubt it is) this is not the case. IF FD are genuinely happy with something and think it is at a state suitable to the standards they set themselves then a complaint / threat thread supported by a small minority of the player base should not lead to an up to 12 month delay
(And i say that regardless of my specific view of features)
If FD delayed it is imo because they knew they had to.
Hell a feature very dear to my heart NPC crew had a massive amount of support 2 or so years ago. If this logic is correct FD should have got on that and implemented them. They didn't ;)

There's something nostalgic about seeing a UK games company doing well, and that makes me happy. I'm reminded of fantasy world dizzy, sir clive sinclair and a whole host of other tenuosly related 'computer' things that most ED fans probably won't be able to relate to. I have to say that although i'm disappointed with ED's slow development, i'm glad there are still future plans for it.

I wouldn't be too sure: FD said they had worked on the new external camera (that we were pleading for in every other post) for two years (it was a one-dev project), so ...........

"this major new release on multiple platforms will fall into financial year 2021 (the 12 months ending 31 May 2021). "

Anyone else noticed that the belated Fleet Carriers release would also boost player numbers for the financial year of 2021, not 2020, because of their proposed new release date after May 2020 ("second quarter of 2020")? Deliberate? Or is "second quarter" something else in financial years?

This contains one of the clearest, best and most likely explanations of what's probably going on with the current Elite Dangerous codebase and the changes that Frontier have in mind.

Yep, good video, and it's what I've been suspecting as well for over a year now. The New Era is essentially Elite Dangerous 2 and it will replace the current aging game's codebase and replace it with a new modern streamlined core instead. In order to properly do space legs this pretty much has to happen, there just isn't any way around it due to the current core being so Frankensteined and tacked together.

"Codebase will be renewed." This phrase is the only basis for speculation which could mean anything. How much of the codebase? All of it? Some of it? The parts that we designed for legs years ago and have only now got round to renewing for 2020?

Shame on FD for not making a statement about this aspect of the game. It could only lead to a positive feeling among the player base .... unless they aren't doing what we think they are doing (and need to )........

End of 2020, hmmm, I might even have fibre optics in the house by then, chances are about 50-50, as good as FDEV releasing Elite in 2020. ...ROFL... ;)

I imagine it is no coincidence to fall in place with the targeted Xbox Scarlett and PS5 release dates.

I am not buying DLC that costs as much as the base game its just not worth it in my opinion plus the game isnt good enough for me to spend that type of money on it .
And yet it's good enough that you spend your time creating an account on the forums...
Here is what I would do in your position:
Wait until it's released and decide if it's worth it.
If not, wait for a sale.
If it's still not worth it, don't bother.

All the planets are aligned in this post.
