Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Lava Loop (16th Nov to 24th Nov 3305)

Todays update has seen plenty of activity in both classes and finally the full times can now be revealed on the leaderboard.

In Regulation Hauler, CMDR Pigletslastand improved the time of Speckled Jim so that he is no longer in a dead heat, with a time of 26:34 leaving him in 5th, 11 seconds behind CMDR Darplata94's Limiting Factor. CMDR Alec Turner then entered the For Chris, in memory of a recently-deceased friend and has landed in a podium position with a time of 26:09. The final entry in Regulation Hauler today was from CMDR Ozric in The Littlest Hobo, with a considerable improvement in his time to 25:45, only two seconds off the lead still held by CMDR Captain-MD. It is rumoured that CMDRs Ozric and Alec Turner are investigating the merits of jet cone boosting using white dwarf stars along the route, so more improvements may yet be forthcoming.

In Unlimited there have been new entries, improved times and some swapping of ships. Firstly, CMDR Eleanor "Echo" Cho has entered her first Buckyball race in the Adder Whoosh... BANG!, with a respectable time of 22:02. Just behind her was another new entry, both to the race and the BRC as far as I know, with CMDR seagullnchips flying his Imperial Courier RamRod in a time of 22:06. The final new entry for today was CMDR Folco Took in his Diamondback Explorer FTM Strider, with a time of 22:48, making similar entry times for the newcomers. Welcome and well done, CMDRs! There were several improved times, with CMDR Stern Winter breaking the twenty-minute barrier after many efforts to refine his approach with his Hauler Yellow Avalanche, achieving a time of 19:50. CMDR Alec Turner in his DBX Bananery Fandango has gone ahead of CMDR JCB Digger's own DBX Seven League Boot, with a time of 18:18. Meanwhile, CMDR Shaye Blackwood has made more attempts to improve in his Asp Explorer Caranwen, culminating in a sub-17-minute time, the only medium ship to achieve this feat, with an anti-clockwise run of 16:57. There were two CMDRs who switched ships to gain time, with CMDR Pigletslastand entering his Imperial Courier Hot Fuzz with a very impressive time of 17:50. Another very fast time was achieved by CMDR Bruski, who showed that the Hauler is able to excel in Unlimited with a time of 16:53 that leaves him in 2nd place overall.

Another welcome to the new faces, as there have been so many new participants. Thank you for your interest and I hope you have enjoyed the experience. There's still the final weekend to go, so feel free to stick around and improve your time or try new ships or a different class. Have fun and fly fast all!

2 seconds... 2 seconds! I knew it would be close, but not that close.

From scouting out the route there's only really one viable White Dwarf jump from what I can see. The saving you make is mitigated slightly by the extra time it takes you complete the jet cone boost. But I may have to give it a shot...

Man I know where that 2 seconds went as well...

wanders off into the distance mumbling

well i've submitted an absoluyte abysmal regulation run, but gonna try get a better run in tomorrow with a stripped down dbx, considering if i dare lose the shields too? but before i do the run tomorrow, are engineered fsd allowed or just stock?

Yesss Skip!! Xbox in tha House!!

Db-x has such a great jump range you shouldn't need to drop the shields, but the dolphin has a faster top speed and perfectly adequate jump range.

Also yes Fish you're right, my iCourier has Min jump range of 52.45 with the top thrusters in it but I didn't find much benefit with 885 versus 775.. coz I went clean drives to keep her cooler on the scoops and didn't even drag drive it

In Unlimited class you can show up in any kind of bizarre engineered/Guardian enhanced contraption you can put together. No FSD synthesis though, and no large pad ships this time (due to outposts).

@Edelgard von Rhein , I finally got around to go around the course you set up this time around to set up my bookmarks (now that's a sentence). Close orbits, best fun. You know what your race lacks though?
A Cobra.
Lapse Of Reason coming to the rescue. :)

(Or that's the intention, at least!)

This is a good point..Jamesons Quest will join the Cobra club and make an appearance

A perhaps entertaining video of a run from today, when the kids had to stay home from preschool because one had croup.
They do their best to get in on the action at times. :p
I'm reminded of that scene in the Costner Robin Hood movie where he's in an archery contest and asks if you can still do it under distraction - Marion blows in his ear and the arrow flies off into the trees.

You sir can quite clearly fly under distraction ... good skills! 😂

Ok my Cobra Jamesons Quest flipped round in 20:48 which aint bad ... not first line but certainly not embarassing. Oddly I can actually get 52.6 jump, sheilds, and 660 boost which I never realised was even possible in a Cobra...this gives me a 2 jump run rather than the 3 I expected.
In fact I enjoyed the flight so much I`m gonna do it again!

Except now I have the mental image of that scene but with Marion coughing loudly in Robin's ear and boy you ruined that scene for me 😅

That was some nice flying Bruski! Way faster at hitting them pads than I'm doing at mo..Pc Def has an edge with the loading of instances too!! Can't believe how calm you can be with cute lill distractions at the same time!! 😂

Viper mk4 run submitted could be better but it was around 7 minutes faster than the first attempt need to improve on boosting using white dwarfs

Will the final table have multiple ships per commander?

I need to make sure i focus on my engineers after this :) how you guys are getting such quick times in the hauler thou is insane, gonna get a few runs in later on the dbx and see how bad i do LOL my aim is 28 mins :) Though no matter times i get will admith its been a fun challenge :)

Managing to not completely mess up the approach at 11 minutes when Ash was playing around was very impressive indeed.

Bruski: "If you do not behave you'll have to get down"
...
...
Ash: "Get down"

😂
