Community Event / Creation The Buckyball Racing Club presents: Lava Loop (16th Nov to 24th Nov 3305)

Well I have done at least ten runs in Courier...with maybe ten seconds between them. Now what bit do I remove from the ship next...do they need landing gear?

I made the run in the Dolphin, and even with 8tn extra fuel, and shields, can jump the 54.5ly and run 591m/s, in a better pilot hands should make 1 min less for sure.
The AutoHotKey little macro, really help to alleviate the target selection. Normally I'm back to the bridge before the FSD cooldown.
Seems that I'm not taking risks...

Today there have been new entries onto the podium in both categories and some improved times at least partly as a result of CMDRs switching to another ship.

Firstly, CMDR Pigletslastand has entered his Regulation Hauler Speckled Jim and manged a dead heat with current third-place holder CMDR Bob Dubrovnik. This is also the first XBox entry in the Regulation Hauler class. Well done: it certainly shows that every second counts!

In Unlimited, there have been other examples of close times. CMDR JCB Digger has switched to his Imperial Courier Hot Stuff and moved ahead of CMDR Pigletslastand's Dolphin Unladen Swallow by a very narrow margin. CMDR Stern Winter has continued to persevere in his Hauler Yellow Avalanche, improving his time by five seconds, although this was not quite enough to advance a place. CMDR Sulu has entered his own Imperial Courier, the Anabasii Celeste, with a sub-19-minute time, leaving quite a gap on the leaderboard to the next place, his own Diamondback Explorer the The Crimson Haybaler. It seems that once people figure out how to get under 20 minutes, they can get under 19 minutes as well - a jump or two being saved there, perhaps? Finally, by a very fine margin, CMDR Darplata94 has managed to put his Imperial Courier Proof of Concept into a podium position, ahead of CMDR Shaye Blackwood's Asp Explorer Caranwen. With CMDR Shaye Blackwood reporting to be interested in seeing how much faster he can get his Asp Explorer to go, will it be enough to stay in 3rd?

With the times now getting close, I'll reveal the full times from tomorrow onwards. There are still more CMDRs waiting in the wings and with two podium entries today, who knows what will happen as the race builds to its climax over the weekend?! Have fun and fly fast all!

Warming up to this mornings racing...

They were just sat still in the exit... Out of order!

Nice work on flying sideways through the exit though, I can never convince myself to do it and I always roll 90 degrees even if I know it can definitely fit through.

Oh and if you'd like any of the other evening's... incidents to be removed... let me know Alec 😋

I'm not sure I want to submit my run now.

Though it wasn't the first run when we started a little apart. I closed up on you at the second stop, but then I didn't see you again till the finish line so you soundly beat me that time.

Nah, it's OK - go for it! My run wasn't gonna be 1st place anyway.
Mine might... ;)

The thing I like about this race is that it puts a different spin on the station approaches. Because the majority are so close to the jump in point, it's not about the initial approach as much as it is about how much you dare push the speed as you approach the planet, and because Lava Worlds have nice high gravity how much you hope they can slow you down. It's been fun so far. I just missed a T-9 in the exit as I started my run too.

I also like how different Unlimited and Regulation are. The DBX can shrug off heat and has more than enough range so I filter on scoopables and, for me. it's about not running out of fuel and not dying when I smack into the pads. The Hauler on the other hand is about WD supercharging and about not cooking all the internals before you get back. Really cool hot race Edelgard!
