Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I'll let you know how the Lakon ships perform when I've tackled an interceptor. Spent yesterday farming blueprints and patterns. Quite disappointing how easy the weapons blueprints are to obtain compared with the module ones. Currently I have 10 weapons blueprints after just a couple of hours, maxed out three of the pattern data (but not Epsilon - only have 96 of those), so sometime this week I'll have to fly back to the bubble and choose how to outfit my Challenger - open to suggestions there.

Scouts are easy. Outfit a Krait with 4 AX MCs and mow them down like you are the grim reaper. I posted a short video a few weeks ago.

Enjoyed that vid! Glad I'm not getting into PvP with you - I'd be space dust in a nan-second :D

Awesome, thanks. I will check the video out after work.

Good idea about the Krait and AX MC’s, think I have all the equipment in storage to build something along those lines for scouts. I should probably use them for target practice with the Chieftain though, to get a good feel for the hardpoint placement.

My load out I am building for it consists of Guardian Gauss Cannons, Remote Release Flak, plus heat sinks and Thermal vent beam for keeping cold. Got all my experimental effects added last night but need a few more mats to G5 everything.

I have based it on this build here if you are interested;

Just flying it around to engineers was great fun, quick and nimble enough for my liking. Still not battle tested but getting there.

Which platform are you on? I’m on Xbox if you want to wing up at any stage since we are both kind of on a similar mission right now.

Unfortunately I'm on PS4, and I fly solo as I'm too old and cheap to get a playstation plus online account, or whatever it is you kids call it, so I can't physically join in on open. I may bite the bullet in the new year (once I get the new Terminator game - I know the reviews aren't great but one of my favourite games from the olden days of PC gaming was Terminator Future Shock, and just as Elite feeds my 1980s nostalgia, so I hope that rekindles my 1990s memories.) but for now my options are limited.

Ah no worries Wash, each to their own. Regardless, we can still share experiences. It is great how this game allows people on different platforms and game modes to share the same galaxy.

Offer goes for anyone reading this as well, if you are on Xbox and want to wing up sometime for whatever, feel free to send me a friend request o7

So just returning after a year away and have equipped my Adder to transport tourists and go asteroid mining. Don’t think I’ll ever win a space battle so running around near Rhea with fingers crossed I don’t get an interdiction.

Can’t decide what carrier path to take though, other than to see Earth at some point.

Open to suggestions.

Took the FdL to Todd for some MC upgrades - wanted some come corrosives. Given the limited range and fuel of this ship, it took a little longer and a more careful planning of routes (no scoop  ).

On the way, I was interdicted for no reason: "I'll pick your bones clean, greenhorn". On the way back, I received "I'm gonna boil you up". I was very hurt by these remarks and had to go home to my mummy for a cuddle. How wude.

I've been wondering; whenever I go to dock I hear something like "Core Dynamics Alpha Charlie Echo..." - does everyone get ACE or do they use the first 3 letters of your commander name always?

I've been stirring the BGS pot a little too effectively and accidentally pushed two systems into a war for control simultaneously because I didn't expect one of them to move as much as it did in one day, so now I have to fight two wars at once and I'm holding back at "maintain second place" levels in my actual home system as I don't want to handle a third. Whoops.

I took my engineered Corvette to a High Res last night for some pew pew fun. It gave me an opportunity to try out the G5 engineered thrusters. One nice thing about them is that I can get away from an attacker at will if I get into any trouble. I discovered that my load out is not exactly ideal. I think I will take a trip to Jameson and make some changes to her load out. I also have some engineering to work on for the weapons.

I also collected a bunch of manufactured materials in the process as well. When I turned in the bounties I made 1.4 million credits. Not bad for an hours work.

I'm doing ok-ish with the FdL in exactly these scenario's. It does seem, though, heat may be an issue. Perhaps I was getting over-exhuberant by opening fire with all guns blazing instead of hitting the shield with lasers then going over the hull with MC's. It's a learning curve!

Some weapons are better than others, but all have at least some chance to penetrate and damage modules. Lasers are pretty poor at it, railguns are very good, multis are decent enough.
I recently refitted my Layzoor boat Corvette. Fitted Burst lasers with focused upgrade, which increases their piercing value a lot. Seems to help against hull/modules.
But to be honest, this kinda theorycrafting is well above my Pay grade!

This is Nekogami.
Not entirely accurate, things still getting changed. I find the weapons loadout spot on. Can sit in HazRES for days (Watch that fuel!).

I went back to Sirius in my cobra, Daffodil to report on my findings in Imperial territory. On the way, I stopped off at the “Government Installation” in Inti, which used to have a couple of satellites that could be scanned for high quality data, but they have gone... After drifting around it in FA off for a bit, I found a “hackable comms array” which I scanned, and it lit up sub-targets that the description helpfully said could be “attached to with recon limpets”. Daffodil is equipped for all sorts of capers, so she has some on board, and I thought I actually use them to see what they did....

“Bounty Incurred”
“Crime detected - system security ETA 10 seconds”
“Under Attack”

Time for a sharp exit :)

Continued journey back to Sirirus via nearest Interstellar Factor to make the problem “go away” ;)

as far as I'm aware, AP counters hull hardness, and it's the min/max breach chance stats that affect module damage - otherwise, penetrator payload would be a useless experimental on torpedoes which already have an AP of 10,000.
My rule-o-thumb is to go with long range on large and huge lasers, and focused on small and medium if I'm going to be using them for hull damage. Focused on L/H is kinda wasted as their base AP is good enough against anything smaller than a T10 and I'd rather have the removed falloff. And for bursts, the extra thermal load of focused can be nasty.
