Midnight Black (Friday) paintjobs now available

fear of missing out sprinkled on top of compulsive consumerism, carefully grown over a substrate of unhappiness with "you're special" fertilizer. just business.

me? neither. 😂

my free arx budget will remain in game accumulating interests in perpetuity so braben's dataminers can analyze what i think about their business model, subtly suggesting into what particular part of his anatomy he can shove it.

Wow I bet you're fun at parties. Do you go into Tesco and hurl abuse at them for selling things that some people may decide they want to buy too? :D I mean companies selling stuff, whatever next? It's a disgrace!

I had promised myself I would't spend any Arx. Then they go and drop those Stygian paints. I hate FDev for making me hate myself.
I think the Stygian skins are bloody hideous.

Looks like how a chav would paint his lottery Ferrari.

Thanks Frontier for saving me money. It's my girlfriend's birthday this month anyway. XD

My recent ED play sessions have mainly been in the Store. My Pirate Cutter now looks the part, my Trade Cutter now is Imperial Palladium Shiny, my Mamba is all brassy, my T9 looks better. I still have over 8,000 Arx left to spend and now the Black paint jobs are out along with Stygian.

......I'm not going to leave the station tonight I am?

it varies. i was just now trying to picture you in a party ...

i heard tesco is coming to my area. i highly doubt you'll ever see me in there, but i've been dragged by people to some funny places so ... i'll tell you when i get there.

anyway, sorry for hurting your feelings with my reckless abuse hurling, though. maybe a new paintjob would help you lift your spirit (for about 10 minutes)? 🤪

I'll give you one piece of entirely genuine and heartfelt advice here. Don't bother with Tesco :D

As for me and parties, all I'll say is that I usually keep the mask on.

Too bad the paint packs are no longer a thing. I would have bought the stigian for a few ships. Now I got to buy each individually so I got to make a choice as I cant spend big money on paint jobs.

To get stygian on every ship+srv+fighters = 3250 x 6 x 44 = 858000 arx
@ 2222 arx/gbp which is from 100000(best price) @ 45gbp: 2222 arx/gbp
858000 / 2222 = £386 gbp

So close on 400 quid to buy every stygian paint job. Used to be you could just buy a pack for 3-4gbp which would have every one in the set for a given ship. I think this should still be an option for all paint jobs, I do miss this. Even then it is still gonna cost at least an order of magnitude more than what I could possibly justify spending.

FDev: BRING BACK PAINT JOB SETS! why cant we have choice to buy individually + whole pack if we want a few.

So looks like I got to be a little bit selective given my limited budget to buy paint jobs. They do look great on the SRV. And I have been wanting shiny gold color on my vette for ages. And the purples look really cool.

Problem is that they are time-limited and dont know when they will come up again. There are also some rare paint jobs/accessories that come up at xmas time that I want to save my arx for.

Choices, choices...

Stygian paintjobs are limited time only. They look great and are very expensive - the incentive to buy them is that you know they are sold only for a few days. Therefore you don't have time to rationally think and will make an impulse buy with more chance than otherwise. Marketing 101.

Go on, I have to ask. Just how much time would you actually need to parse the question 'do I want to buy this shiny paintjob for my pretend space ship and can I afford to spend the life-changing amounts of money concerned?' Granted I'm a tax officer so I spend most of my working day doing mental artithmetic but I can't say I thought I was that far ahead of the average person in terms of my ability to work out whether I had a few quid to spare.

And Lifetime Expansion Pass owners received a bunch more of them last year

Things I missed by about two weeks:

1. The last LEP sale
2. The date that you had to have pre-ordered Horizons by to get the free black paintjobs.

The second one is about the only thing that's ever irritated me about FDev's sales/marketing. Like it's not enough that I pre-ordered the expansion (total number of games I have ever pre-ordered is one by the way...) I didn't pay them for their as-yet unreleased expansion early enough? Obviously I've never been narked enough about it to go full petition/open letter and I sleep pretty soundly at night but I did think it was a bit shoddy to be honest.

And since there's no way to filter by Stygian I cba to check every single ship... god Frontier. You really don't want our money do you.

Yeah discovery is a joke. One website of thumbnails was so much better.

Luckily they aren't so dramatic previewed in game so only ended up getting the beluga and taipan. I did it some time later.. bought an arx pack and almost decided to just keep the arx and move on, lol.

That's okay im sure the midnight skins are interesting for new players just like they were to longer players the first time around.

Also arx is a complete and utter failure. When the numbers were 3,4, 10, whatever, the cost was absolutely invisible to my brain. Now that im constantly aware of the cost and given frontier are uninspiring in their work on the game and communication, all the cosmetics are buring as so expensive. In american truck simulator you get much higher quality cosmetics for a much cheaper price and available for a few ships (trucks). In farming simulator for the same price as the 8k arx bundle you get real equipment, things in game. Or full games on steam. What a joke.

Well, I spent €11.49 earlier on an Arx pack and splurged it on 6 paints (3 Stygian, 3 MNB) with 40 Arx remaining overall as I had some 'savings', that would normally get me an ATS or ETS map expansion - or as you say, €3.99 would get me a full Truck tuning pack (paints and parts).

Alas, I'm spending a lot more time in Elite than those two (think I have about 250 hours clocked on them combined), so swings and roundabouts really.

What I don't get (and this has at least somewhat improved today from what I could see) is how the 'front page' of the store doesn't really promote the new items sufficiently, there's not enough rotation of items, or better, and endless-scrolling page which you can filter by attributes. It's like they focused on tablet friendly layout, and completely forgot to add actual usability. That's not how you sling your warez yo.

Funnily enough I'd never get a car wrapped like that. I do think some wraps can look decent if well done but it's not something I'd go for myself even if I had the money. I used to walk past this parked up in Manchester a few years back and every time I saw it I wanted to take my eyes out with hot teaspoons, I mean just knowing the thing even existed on the same planet as me was a source of acute distress.

For reference though, if money was no object (and if I didn't live in the north west where we only have the weather for it about five days a year...) this is what I'd drive. Not exactly a blingmobile for sure. I first saw one when I was about seven or eight and 40 years later I still think they're one of the most beautiful things ever constructed by human hands.

Yeah its bit of a non event for me. Though i think i just found a lead.. my newest account doesn't have a covas, im 300 arx short of being able to get one with the cheapest pack. Time to do some road to riches it think.

It was a bit of a dumbness shock how you've got your wallet out to throw at them and they made it harder for you to do them the favor. Mind blown.

I also play elite in hours more than the truck simulators, but SCS are wise enough not to pee people off. I haven't invested much in ets because the dlcs are more expensive, theres so many to catch up on (the audio is worse and i hate autobarn driving) but with ats i get all the dlc the moment its released. Maybe its because i happily pay frontier, but i can't give them a white knight pass when they're being absolute crap about their own game.... for the last 2 years. Its going to be a rude shock to the 3 people participating in the current beta just how well frontier "listen" to their feedback. Its going just like the past ones i participated in so far.

Also frontier... metallic BLACK.. not night before metallic recolor :(

I wouldn't call Arx a complete failure, but they definitely could have done it better.

I think the biggest problem with Arx is how it shows the prices of cosmetics, namely "how big is the number next to the item listing?"

To give an example, a 16-piece ship kit costs 13520 Arx compared to 12 USD in the old system. When someone first looks at the price listing in Arx, they see a number that is 3 orders of magnitude higher than it was under the old system. Even though it's actually cheaper to buy the ship kit with Arx (not that you would be able tell without looking it up), the first impression of "my god that's expensive" stays with the potential buyer. Even after they have spent some time with a calculator working out the actual price in their currency of choice, the shock of seeing a big number next to that group of pixels could very well make someone think twice about buying that extra paint job or name plate.

Of course, I'm not sure what FDev's financial figures are like before and after Arx was introduced, so I can't say for certain whether or not Arx was a net success for them. On the individual level, I would say that Arx is a net win for me because all of the cosmetics I would like to buy are now cheaper (I typically only used 1 of the paint jobs in a 6-pack) and the "big number shock" helps keep me from opening my wallet for any additional impulse buys, ymmv.
